The Republic of Gamers G75VW-DH73-3D 17.3" Notebook Computer from ASUS houses the power of a tricked out desktop gaming PC in one portable notebook computer. This ASUS notebook redefines the term "mobile gaming." Full resolution graphics, consistent frames per second (fps) and high definition multimedia are compacted into a notebook which allows you to dominate the competition while on the go.
This ASUS notebook has a 17.3" Full HD 3D-ready anti-glare widescreen display that is backlit with LED lamps, which brighten faster, use less power and provide better picture quality than their CCFL counterparts. The screen has a true 16:9 aspect ratio, which is also the standard of HDTVs. The Full HD 1920 x 1080 native resolution is supported by an nVIDIA GeForce GTX 670M with 3GB of discrete memory.
The system is powered by a quad-core Ivy Bridge 2.4GHz Intel Core i7-3630QM processor. It also comes with 16GB of 1600MHz DDR3 RAM, a 750GB 7200rpm hard drive + a 256GB solid state drive, a Blu-ray burner, 10/100/1000Mbps Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, an integrated webcam and microphone. The built-in stereo speakers are also accompanied by a built-in subwoofer. Windows 8 (64-bit) is the installed operating system.

Comments about ASUS Republic of Gamers G75VW-DH73-3D 17.3" Notebook Computer (Black):
Got this to replace an old HP DV9 - the hinge cracked on that. This Asus does everything it claims, so I'll just point out a few nit-picks that don't add up to a deal-killer. I've already watched 3D movies, so a laptop that can do that is awesome.1. It doesn't have a remote control like the HP does. I'll miss being able to adjust track and volume when listening to material with the lid closed.2. The mouse takes some re-learning. It minimizes windows and freezes at apparently random moments, but I think that's because my other fingers got too close. Also, since it is left-of-center, using my right hand to scroll is problematic.3. The illuminated keyboard has spots of light between the rows of keys. They cause glare in my glasses! This problem vanishes if you look straight down at it, like when it is in your lap. But I use it on a table...4. When listening to music in the dark, lid closed, the drive, battery, caps-lock and num-lock indicators are way too bright!. They light up the room!5. Huge power supply. I used the HP on airplanes. I don't know if the Asus will be as useful in that environment.6. Volume too low. It has good sound quality, but in a room with central air circulation (not a lot of noise) I could barely hear the movie dialog at full volume.7. I wish I'd known the non-glare screen version was available for only about $[$]more! That should be a no-brainer! I didn't know, so I have the reflective screen version...

Comments about ASUS Republic of Gamers G75VW-DH73-3D 17.3" Notebook Computer (Black):
I'm a 3D graphics professional and bought this laptop for 3D work using programs Lightwave, Maya, Max and Zbrush. I previously used a Dell XPS M1710, Alienware MX11 and also a Lenovo T510 at work. Only had the G75VW for a couple of weeks, but, for the most part, already very impressed...best laptop I have owned/used.
Pros -
Nice solid keyboard
Love that cooling exits rear of computer.
Display is bright.
Cons-
Please note that the screen on this 3D version of the G75 is very shiny. This is a big disappointment because the specs list the screen as anti-glare. A co-worker has the non-3D version and the screen has a matte finish...you could use it outside. Not so with the 3D screen. It's a very nice display otherwise.
Windows 8 - Overall seems like a disaster. Really wish I could have bought with Windows 7. I use a Wacom tablet and found out that Windows 8 has some issues that prevent the Wacom from working correctly. There are some workarounds but nothing that completely fixes the issues yet.
Warranty - The Asus ROG forums have lots of complaints concerning poor warranty service. Long turnaround times and repeat returns without solutions. Hopefully I don't need to use the service. Always had great warranty service on previously owned Dell/Alienware laptops.

Comments about ASUS Republic of Gamers G75VW-DH73-3D 17.3" Notebook Computer (Black):
I am not a gamer but a small business owner and I wanted a powerful computer to cover all the bases. This one fit the bill without going crazy on price. I needed something that could handle everyday work stuff and also handle picture and video editing for my website. I also had to have a SSD drive for speed and a larger HDD for storage. This is a much safer and faster combo with less chance of having problems. Windows 8 takes some getting used to but seems to work well once you figure things out. Don't have any complaints.
