Comments about AVerMedia AVerTV HD Digital Video Recorder for PC:

Most people buy HDMI capture cards for gaming or digitizing older digital media and/or capturing television shows. I purchased this product exclusively for video editing and production. I have two HD video cameras that shoot at different frame rates and write different file types - AVCHD and MP4. And as many video editors know, these H.264 files are difficult to edit and require a lot of horsepower.

With the HDMI capture card, I simply play back my videos off the cameras and I have uncompressed, HDV MPEG files with the same frame rate. And it does it much faster than a video encoder. The bit rate on some of these files were 30,000 kbps at 1920x1080.

    Nothing is perfect:
I will say this about the AverMedia capture card – the card is much better than the software that's packaged with it. Some video editing applications I own, work very well with the AverMedia card – and consequently I get fantastic results. The AVer Media Center 3D will capture stunning video quality; however, I had difficulty with the sound breaking up.
