The K-5 II Digital SLR Camera from Pentax is a top-of-the-line APS-C DSLR camera.  It offers a 16.3MP CMOS sensor with integrated Analog/Digital conversion circuitry for high resolution photos and video. And the K-5 II brings with it a new, highly advanced and extremely accurate 11 point SAFOX X autofocus system. This new autofocus system offers a wide EV focus range which means faster autofocus with less hunting in low-light situations and improved AF accuracy when using fast, wide-aperture lenses. The AF sensor also includes the Select-Area Expansion feature which automatically tracks moving subjects as they proceed across the frame.

The ISO sensitivity range on the K-5 II is impressive, ranging from 100-12800 in normal setting and expandable from 80-51200. Combine this with the Pentax body-based Shake Reduction stabilization system and you have a camera that performs incredibly well in low light situations and when shooting telephoto.  Expect nothing but sharp, blur-free images in both photo and video. The K-5 II also allows for a shutter speed as fast as 1/8000 of a second which will stop fast motion subjects in their tracks and provide wonderfully detailed sports and wildlife shots. And, at 7 frames per second of continuous shooting, you will never miss that action shot! Accurate exposure metering is provided by the Pentax 77-segment metering system, so whether you prefer to shoot with auto exposure or with full manual control, the K-5 II is for you.

The K-5 II has Full HD 1080p video capture at 25 frames per second. Stereo sound recording is available via the built-in microphones or through external microphones connected at the camera's 3.5mm stereo microphone jack. An HDMI port connects your camera directly to HDTV and allows for immediate screening of your widescreen video in glorious HD.

For playback and composition, the K-5 II has an air-gap-free, scratch resistant 3.0" LCD with 921,000 dots of resolution that offers detailed and color-accurate images even in bright sunlight. A pentaprism viewfinder with 100% field of view and 0.92x magnification is available for classic SLR framing, and a built-in electronic level with tilt scale display will help keep images straight when shooting products or architecture.

For the photographers who shoot primarily in RAW, the Pentax K-5 II offers native support for both Pentax PEF and Adobe DNG 14-bit RAW files. A customizable RAW/Fx button allows for easy access to your most used shooting settings including immediate RAW access and the RAW Data Retrieve function saves the original RAW data of a just-recorded JPEG format image.

The Pentax K-5 II also has a wide range of in-camera image processing and filters available for creative touches and HDR capture to provide balanced exposures when shooting high contrast scenes.

While the Pentax K-5 II is a user-friendly camera accessible to all, it is particularly ideal for shooters who work in extreme conditions. A durable magnesium alloy cover surrounds a stainless steel chassis and the body is fully weather sealed with 77 protection seals throughout the body. It is cold proof to 14º F (-10°C) and has been tested to 100,000 shutter releases which means you can count on this camera, especially when the going gets tough.

Comments about Pentax K-5 II Digital SLR Camera:

Coming from the k100d, k-10d, k-01, and Q, this is a significant upgrade. The build quality is the best I've ever seen from a digital pentax. The k-5 II and the K-01 share the same sensor, so images hold up well between the two. The auto-focus on the k-5ii outperforms any of my other cameras especially in low-light situations.Overall I've been very impressed so far.

Comments about Pentax K-5 II Digital SLR Camera:

Bought this as a backup to a K3 & K5iis. Keep a 18-250 zoom on it for quick family shots. Has a great feel like the other two K's, not small and flimsy. Takes all K mount lenses made over 40 yrs, often find bargains in B&H used dept.

I am moving from a K-x which I thought was/is a great Camera that has served me well, But the Black Fri. deal on the K-5II was too good to pass up. It is a over the top learning experience but well worth it, I am one happy camper.

Comments about Pentax K-5 II Digital SLR Camera:

I upgraded to the K-5ii from my K-x. I knew I would be in for a pleasant upgrade in experience, but I'm just floored by how much superior this camera is. The image qualit is remarkable, and the AF is fast and accurate. The view finder is bright and sharp, and I now feel so much more confident using maunel focus (the pentamirror in the K-x made it too dark for many situations). I'm just exceptionally happy with this camera. The build quaility is typical Pentax: Excellent.

Comments about Pentax K-5 II Digital SLR Camera:

I'm a casual photographer looking to get a little more serious over the next couple of years. This camera will provide for a wonderful learning experience well into the future based upon all of it's features.

Major Pros: I came from a K100D and the major thing I noticed is the battery life is exceptional. I bought an extra battery but don't think I'm going to be using it very often.

Pros: Features - For this beginner, I'm going to have my hands full. AutoFocus works well and can be adjusted. Again, still getting used to all the features, but so far I haven't been stuck since the manual and the internet provide plenty of info.

Minor Cons: Coming from a point/shoot way before, the weight difference is significant. Again, this is to be expected with all the features and the weatherproofing. If you have big lenses expect to get tired.

LBA - Or lens buying addiction. Lenses really provide the experience of using a DSLR. Expect to grow tired of kit lenses and branch out. Especially if you're shooting indoor and outdoor.

Comments about Pentax K-5 II Digital SLR Camera:

Professional. That is the word I would use to describe this body. The image quality is phenomenal, low-light performance is amazing (3200 is just fine) and the thing is weather sealed and good even at colder temperatures. Auto focus speed is now good in the mark 2 and pretty much the only thing holding this back from being the best selling dslr on the planet is Pentax not having a marketing budget the same size as Canon, Nikon or Sony. Hopefully Ricoh will help change that, at least a little. I would highly recommend this camera. Come join us Pentaxians and see what life is like when you give up on rabid fanboyism of the other guys. Derek, Canada

Comments about Pentax K-5 II Digital SLR Camera:

In my opinion, Pentax DSLRs have always offered the most bang-for-the-buck, and this K-5 II is no exception. I upgraded from my K-7 to this camera because I thought the autofocus was going out. (It wasn't; the lens needed repaired.) Even though I probably didn't need to make this upgrade, I don't regret it. While the K-5 II isn't a huge upgrade from my K-7, it offers a few very nice improvements. First, the autofocus is quite a bit faster. It locks onto subjects quickly and accurately. The K-7 was good, but this is much better. Second, the LCD screen is much better. There seems to be less glare and I think it's a bit sharper. Lastly, the performance at high ISOs is sooo good. I don't usually go above 1250 or so, but I did some test shots at the highest ISOs and even at 6400 I'm able to get very usable images. Obviously, they aren't at the level of a camera like the Nikon D4, but they're very nice and I wouldn't hesitate to use the camera at 6400 if I needed to. There are also plenty of other small improvements to the camera over the K-7, such as the shooting speed and the resolution. I would recommend this camera to anybody, not just Pentax users. It's affordable and produces excellent results.

Comments about Pentax K-5 II Digital SLR Camera:

At first, the manual seems intimidating, however, the capabilities of this camera are many, supported by a rugged body. This camera can compete and will go out in the weather, something my Canon can't do.

Just got the K-5 II this week and already I can see major improvements compared to my K-10D - especially with clean low light pictures (at 3200!).

Comments about Pentax K-5 II Digital SLR Camera:

I have owned a K5 for two years now and have just aquired a K5ii. These are great cameras. The K5 has had some occational focus issues which the K5ii seems to have resolved. Focus is not the fastest but it is decisive. This camera has a great sensor and I think that with current technology, 16MP is the sweet spot for APS-C. The K5 handles like a dream, small and solid it is a great travel dSLR. Add the battery grip and it is ergonomic nirvana! in the past year I have used both the Canon 5d Mark III and the Nikon D800, nice cameras to be sure, but they didn't handle half as well as the K5/ii/iis with the battery grip.Weather sealed and rugged, the K5ii is a terrific all around camera. Not the best option for sports due to rather pedestrian AF performance (still its given me some great sport shots) but as an all around camera it is tough to beat. And at current prices, I got the $ black Friday deal, its a terrific value.

This is my first high-end Pentax camera. Very good! I used Nikon D7000 and Canon 60D before, and this is an unique product. It is bigger than I thought, but still small to carry. It gives me a feeling of creating and I enjoy it. I love the shutter sound very much.

Have owned three Pentax dslr's and this one finally gets it right for me. If it had just a little better tracking in AF it would be perfect. I prefer this to my wife's K3. Combined with a D-BG4 grip handling is awesome. I did like the focus peaking that my K30 had and not sure why it was left out here. A few of my lenses need AF adjustment with my K30 and surprisingly need no adjustment with the K5II? I could not be more pleased with B&H black Friday price and their customer service after the sale. I'll be back!

This is my 4th pentax dslr and definitly the best one Ive owned. The menu is easy, shutter is so quiet i found myself taking a second shot thinking it didnt fire off the first time. Best color rendition out of all dslrs and best bank for the buck.

Comments about Pentax K-5 II Digital SLR Camera:

I bought this camera to replace my aging Pentax K10D. I liked that camera a lot except when it came to low light performance. The K-5 II is a major improvement. I put my FA 50mm f/1.4 on it and kept on taking sharp photos indoors with minimum light. What a fantastic sensor!

Auto focus is much better as well. I like the more compact body and as with the K10D, I got the battery grip as well. It makes for a nice tight package with extended battery life and excellent handling in portrait mode.

The larger LCD screen is larger and makes reviewing images with my aging eyes much easier! Pentax has plenty of buttons and dials for adjustments without digging into the menu too much. But when you do have to it's easy to navigate through.

Battery life is not as good as the K10D but that may be because of the larger image files and larger LCD panel.

I'm very pleased with the image quality, a typical Pentax trait. Just superb color rich photos. Highly recommended.

Bought this to replace/add to my K-10D. What a difference, especially in AF speed and accuracy of focus in low-light. Great high ISO pictures, with low noise...

Somehow it feels a bit smaller in my hands, so I have just ordered the Pentax D-BG4 grip for it.

I have never been entirely happy with my photography since switching to digital. NOW I'm excited again. It's a sharp wonderful camera! See the attached photograph and this was before I've learned all the buttons and such for this camera!
