The K-5 II Digital SLR Camera with SMC DA 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AL WR Lens Kit from Pentax puts a top-of-the-line APS-C DSLR camera together with a versatile 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AL lens.

The K-5 II offers a 16.3MP CMOS sensor with integrated A/D conversion circuitry for high resolution photos and video. And the K-5 II brings with it a new, highly advanced and extremely accurate 11 point SAFOX X autofocus system. This new autofocus system offers a wide EV focus range which means faster autofocus with less hunting in low-light situations and improved AF accuracy when using fast, wide-aperture lenses. The AF sensor also includes the Select-Area Expansion feature which automatically tracks moving subjects as they proceed across the frame.

The ISO sensitivity range on the K-5 II is impressive, ranging from 100-12800 in normal setting and expandable from 80-51200. Combine this with the Pentax body-based Shake Reduction stabilization system and you have a camera that performs incredibly well in low light situations and when shooting telephoto.  Expect nothing but sharp, blur-free images in both photo and video. The K-5 II also allows for a shutter speed as fast as 1/8000 of a second which will stop fast motion subjects in their tracks and provide wonderfully detailed sports and wildlife shots. And at 7 frames per second of continuous shooting, you will never miss that action shot! Accurate exposure metering is provided by the Pentax 77-segment metering system and whether you prefer to shoot with auto exposure or with full manual control, the K-5 II is for you.

The K-5 II has Full HD 1080p video capture at 25 frames per second. Stereo sound recording is available via the built-in microphone or through external microphones connected at the camera's 3.5mm stereo microphone jack. An HDMI port connects your camera directly to HDTV and allows for immediate screening of your widescreen video in glorious HD.

For playback and composition, the K-5 II has an air-gap-free, scratch resistant 3.0" LCD with 921,000 dots of resolution that offers detailed and color-accurate images even in bright sunlight. A pentaprism viewfinder with 100% field of view and 0.92x magnification is available for classic SLR framing and a built-in electronic level with tilt scale display will help keep your images straight when shooting products or architecture.

For the photographers who shoot primarily in RAW, the Pentax K-5 II offers native support for both Pentax PEF and Adobe DNG 14-bit RAW files. A customizable RAW/Fx button allows for easy access to your most used shooting settings including immediate RAW access and the RAW Data Retrieve function saves the original RAW data of a just-recorded JPEG format image.

The K-5 II also has a wide range of in-camera image processing and filters are available for creative touches and HDR capture is also available to provide balanced exposures when shooting high contrast scenes.

While the Pentax K-5 II is a user-friendly camera accessible to all, it is particularly ideal for shooters who work in extreme conditions. A durable magnesium alloy cover surrounds a stainless steel chassis and the body is fully weather sealed with 77 protection seals throughout the body. It is cold proof to 14º F (-10°C) and has been tested to 100,000 shutter releases which means you can count on this camera, especially when the going gets tough.

Included with the Pentax K-5 II is the Pentax DA 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AL WR Zoom lens which is an ideal standard zoom lens designed specifically for Pentax digital SLRs. Able to shoot both true wide angle and standard telephoto focal lengths this is a versatile lens that can handle portraits and group shots, interiors and landscapes. In 35mm format, this lens is equivalent to a 27.5-84.5mm lens. Aspherical optics reduce aberrations and SP Coating repels dust, water and grease. And, like the K-5 II, it is weather-resistant, so it can handle damp and cold conditions.

Comments about Pentax K-5 II Digital SLR Camera with SMC DA 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AL WR Lens Kit:

I'm just a hobby photography but got this camera for a great deal. Kind of just starting but this camera has adapted to my needs. From nice basic photos with family to beautiful high exposure night sky pictures. Probably not the best camera for a beginner, but I hopefully will learn all of the different functions to add unique effects to my photos.

Comments about Pentax K-5 II Digital SLR Camera with SMC DA 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AL WR Lens Kit:

This is my 4th Pentax camera and by far the most advanced. Purchased it at a great cyber Monday price and am still getting the feel for it but so far I am thrilled. Controls are intuitive, images great, focusing is in low light is improved and the shutter is much quieter than previous models.

Comments about Pentax K-5 II Digital SLR Camera with SMC DA 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AL WR Lens Kit:

After using and selling a great number of quality cameras over the past few years, I decided it was time to upgrade my personal camera. A mandatory requirement and large selling point for me is weather sealing. I did many hours of research on DSLR's that fit into this category, and the K-5 series stood out above the small selection. The cost and performance ratio is best in the class.I use the K-5II on hiking and kayaking excursions and for taking action shots of my dogs. The 7 fps, magnesium weather-sealed body and lenses combined with awesome manual exposure settings create great photos. In-camera HDR features, dual control wheels, internal shake reduction technology and one of the most ergonomic grips on the market also contribute to a very enjoyable user experience.I honestly have no negative comments about the camera. After using a similar and comparable Nikon D7000, I am thankful I chose to purchase the Pentax, and have already recommended it to friends.

This is a perfect camera. Actually, the focus timing of Pentax has improved greatly. With the steel body, the camera looks and feels perfect. The performance of the camera at high ISO is also very good.

Very well made, weather resistant, so great for outdoor use. Very good overall image. My only complaint is that the AF confirm won't work with manual focus lenses, like old M42s, you'll need to use the live view. It's a shame because the previous K200 allowed this.

Do yourself a favour and buy a better lens instead of the kit lens. I got a 70mm and a 40mm pancake. Pentax needs to release a new kit zoom.

Comments about Pentax K-5 II Digital SLR Camera with SMC DA 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AL WR Lens Kit:

My girlfriend got this camera for me as a gift. I have been shooting some pictures with this camera now for about a month or so. The image quality is one of the best I have seen in a long time. 16.3mp is nothing to shy away from a digital camera's megapixle count is not as important as the quality of the camera, though that can always be left up for debate. The body is strong, and tough, the mounting is completely metal as well as the lenses from Pentax are metal. When I attach my lenses you can feel the weather resistant seal being made with the red O ring on the lens. Note though, not all the lenses Pentax or other lens makers make them weather resistant. The 18-55mm lens that comes in the kit does amazing wide angle shots and the body can digitally correct the lens distortion made with this lens. The body offers many awesome effects like toy camera, high contrast, and monochrome. But what won me over was the star burst feature which took me some playing around to use it, it will give a star effect off metallic objects not off lights. As well as their spot color/color extraction filter which will only bring out one color from a b&w shot.

The bad thing about this camera is the noise is unacceptable after 6400 for the ISO. It is slightly acceptable at 3200. But below that the image quality is more clear than I can imagine. As well as you can check your F-Stop with your ISO to meter out your shot better with the Pentax and Sigma Lenses.

This camera is easy to change your ISO, F-stop, and shutter in a moment's notice as well as the internal anti shaking sensor turns my manual camera lenses that are screw mount into anti-shake lenses. So using my 500mm Telephoto lens for manual camera's works better on my Pentax camera than my Canon EOS T3 rebel, and Canon 60D.

Lenses for this camera body are a lot more affordable than Canon, or Nikon lenses. I have been shooting with Canon my whole career and my new Pentax K-5 II might just replace my other cameras soon. The price is a not a low price for the photographer looking for gear that is low cost. But this camera is built to last.

In studio, out doors, nature photography, and cityscape this camera can do it all. I am looking forward to many more years using this and maybe buying a few more bodies for everyday use and travel.

This camera is something you should give some strong thought. Pentax use to play with the big boys in film photography and this camera shows it is ready to compete again. And yes I would recommend this to all my photographer friends, and my friends who doubt it, I am willing to let them take a test drive with me.
