The K-5 II Digital SLR Camera with SMC DA 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 ED AL[IF] DC WR Lens Kit from Pentax brings a top-of-the-line APS-C DSLR camera together with an all-purpose 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 AL Zoom lens.

The K-5 II offers a 16.3MP CMOS sensor with integrated Analog/Digital conversion circuitry for high resolution photos and video. And the K-5 II brings with it a new, highly advanced and extremely accurate 11 point SAFOX X autofocus system. This new autofocus system offers a wide EV focus range which means faster autofocus with less hunting in low-light situations and improved AF accuracy when using fast, wide-aperture lenses. The AF sensor also includes the Select-Area Expansion feature which automatically tracks moving subjects as they proceed across the frame.

The ISO sensitivity range on the K-5 II is impressive, ranging from 100-12800 in normal setting and expandable from 80-51200. Combine this with the Pentax body-based Shake Reduction stabilization system and you have a camera that performs incredibly well in low light situations and when shooting telephoto.  Expect nothing but sharp, blur-free images in both photo and video. The K-5 II also allows for a shutter speed as fast as 1/8000 of a second which will stop fast motion subjects in their tracks and provide wonderfully detailed sports and wildlife shots. And at 7 frames per second of continuous shooting, you will never miss that action shot! Accurate exposure metering is provided by the Pentax 77-segment metering system and whether you prefer to shoot with auto exposure or with full manual control, the K-5 II is for you.

The K-5 II has Full HD 1080p video capture at 25 frames per second. Stereo sound recording is available via the built-in microphone or through external microphones connected at the camera's 3.5mm stereo microphone jack. An HDMI port connects your camera directly to HDTV and allows for immediate screening of your widescreen video in glorious HD.

For playback and composition, the K-5 II has an air-gap-free, scratch resistant 3.0" LCD with 921,000 dots of resolution that offers detailed and color-accurate images even in bright sunlight. A pentaprism viewfinder with 100% field of view and 0.92x magnification is available for classic SLR framing and a built-in electronic level with tilt scale display will help keep images straight when shooting products or architecture.

For the photographers who shoot primarily in RAW, the Pentax K-5 II offers native support for both Pentax PEF and Adobe DNG 14-bit RAW files. Also featured on the K-5 II is a customizable RAW/Fx button for easy access to your most used shooting settings including one-touch RAW access and a RAW data retrieve function to save the original RAW data of a just-recorded JPEG format image.

A wide range of in-camera image processing and filters are available for creative touches and HDR capture is also available to provide balanced exposures when shooting high contrast scenes.

While the Pentax K-5 II is a user-friendly camera accessible to all, it is particularly ideal for shooters who work in extreme conditions. A durable magnesium alloy cover surrounds a stainless steel chassis and the body is fully weather sealed with 77 protection seals throughout the body. It is cold proof to 14º F (-10°C) and has been tested to 100,000 shutter releases which means you can count on this camera, especially when the going gets tough.

Included with the Pentax K-5 II is the Pentax SMC DA 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 ED AL [IF] DC WR Zoom lens which is an ideal zoom lens designed specifically for Pentax digital SLRs. Able to shoot both true wide angle and full telephoto focal lengths this is a versatile lens that can handle portraits, group shots, interiors, landscapes and can pull distant objects close for great action and detailed shots. In 35mm format, this lens is equivalent to a 27.5-207mm lens and for its wide range of focal lengths, it is very portable. Aspherical optics reduce aberrations and SP Coating repels dust, water and grease. And, like the K-5 II, it is weather-resistant, so it can handle damp and cold conditions. Its Direct Current focusing motor operates smoothly and quietly, which is especially useful when shooting video and its Quick Shift system allows instant switch from auto to manual focus.

This is my third Pentax DSLR. I like this one because its fast focus speed and the electronic level meter. And I like the horizontal auto-adjustment because I always can't align the horizon well.

I use this pretty much for all kinds of photography. It is excellent for all kinds.Recently. it has been used to shoot kid's baseball. It is fast and can be used at a high ISO. I have not found anything yet that is not great. There are lots of features, some of which I have yet to use such as the movie mode. There are several buttons which allows changing items without having to go in the main menu. And the top LCD is very handy. Having two dials is also handy. Using the camera is easy and the weight is about right. I choose the 18-135 instead of the regular kit lens and am glad I did. It is a super lens.

Arrived on the date promised, Thanks B&H.
The camera has a very solid, wellbuilt feel to it. My experience with DSLR's is fairly limited, with that being said I found the menu and controls fairly easy to get around with and use.Friends that have other brands are impressed with the low light photo quality. The auto focus has been quick and accurate except for a couple of images I had to manually focus.

Camera is used primarily for Birding. Replaced a K-x and the improvement is very noticeable. K-5II is quicker to focus with whisper quiet shutter release. Detail in pics is much improved over the K-x. I get superior quality pictures with the same lens I used on the K-x. I highly recommend this camera as an upgrade if your budget allows.

Comments about Pentax K-5 II Digital SLR Camera with SMC DA 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 ED AL [IF] DC WR Lens Kit:

The primary reason I bought this camera was its reputation for being able to shoot well in low light. It certainly deserves the reputation. My prime photography subjects these days are my three and five year old kids, and I usually capture them running around or just being active, and mostly indoors. I really detest shooting with a flash if possible, and this camera really makes it possible to push the limits of good photography in low light.

Also, the sound settings can be set nice and low, so I can shoot without tipping them off that they are about to be in a photo.
