I bought my AE8000U about a month ago. As soon as I powered up my new projector, I knew that I'd made a good--no, great--decision. I'd previously owned an Optoma HD33 that I'd purchased for [$]. I really was happy with it, save a few things that made me look to upgrade. The first thing I wanted in a new projector was better contrast. I found it in the AE8000U. I wanted lens shifting, also. I got it in the Panasonic AE8000U. I was able to place the unit at the back of my room(around 11 feet away), up on a shelf about 6'6" above the floor. No need to ceiling-mount the projector! I saw NO keystone effect at this level. The Panasonic AE8000U is a dream come true for me. I can't address the 3D virtues because I haven't rec'd the FREE glasses in the mail yet. I spent twice as much money for the Panasonic than I did for the Optoma, but it was worth it, in my view (excuse the pun!).

Purchased one of these projectors a few weeks ago. Its the best one that I owned out of three others. Only trouble is that Panasonic discontinued the shutter glasses that only work with this projector since they went with RF glasses on all their new TVs. Its a good thing that I received two pairs with the projector. I emailed Panasonic to find a substitute and they replied seven days later that the TY-EW3D3 glasses are the only ones that will work and that they are offering them again on their website for a ridiculous price of $100 each for the time being. I had to look all over the Internet to get two more pairs at a decent price. I won't be able to use the projector to watch 3D movies when the batteries in the glasses die, and they will, if they don't offer replacement glasses in the future. One other thing. The strong IR signal from the projector that controls the glasses makes it extremely difficult to operate any IR remote control while playing a 3D movie. I hope that Panasonic introduces a black box that can be connected to the output terminal at the rear of the projector (used for an accessary IR LED bar) that will convert the signal to radio frequency so that their new RF glasses can be used.I would have rated the projector with 5 stars if they had updated the unit to use their new radio frequency glasses. If you are not a fan of 3D movies, then get this projector. Its fabulous.

I bought this in Dec'2012 and have used it enough to write this review. My friends and family are so happy with this projector. Room does not need darkening as the picutre is bright. I'm still projecting on my cream yellow wall and it does not feel so when the room lights are off. Great contract and color reproduction. I'm using it at default setting and am very happy so far. I also got the $100 rebate back in time but am still waiting for the two pair of 3D glasses.I wish it had motorized lens cover too. 3D glass could be included in the box like other manufacturers.B&H had fast shipping and the packaging was so nice. I had to open 3 boxes to reach the projector and it arrived safe!Everyone who saw it now wants one.

We got the AE8000U to replace a "gaming" projector. The quality of picture and richness of color is outstanding. This is a very sophisticated projector- and the improvement in quality over its predecessor is striking! We are using this machine for movies and video games in a home theatre setup- and the whole family is impressed!

I had a Sony VPL-VW50 projecter whose optical block failed and needed a replacement. I looked at another Sony, Epson, and other brands. For the features, and brightness offered, the Panasonic PT-AE8000 was the best deal to me. The brightness makes watching 3D with active shudder glasses good since the brightness is still there. Colors are good, whether watching TV, Blu-Ray, or using a computer, the projecter displays them all nicely. Lots of memory slots for custom setups. My projecter is ceiling mounted with a 1.3 gain Da-Lite screen. A great upgrade over my last project. Only down side so far is I cannot get 3rd party 3D glasses to work with it, on panasonic ones work so far.
