Nikon's D600 Digital Camera body features a full-frame 24.3MP FX-format CMOS sensor in a compact form-factor. That means the D600 is both slimmer than a traditional HDSLR and more budget-friendly. And with a full-sized sensor also comes a powerful engine; the EXPEED 3 processing system enables features such as 5.5 fps continuous shooting at full resolution. Also, compact as it may be, the D600 still fits in a 3.2" LCD monitor.
The D600 also has other hardy features that allow the camera to stretch for the photographer's needs. Such features include a wide ISO range of 100-6400, which is also expandable to 50-25600. This allows shots to be captured in a variety of lighting situations, from low-light to bright, with minimal image noise. The camera also has 39 focus points for wide-area AF coverage for both stills and HD video capture.
Other ways that the D600 enables the photographer to focus on the job at hand include features like Nikon's well-known metering and onboard intelligence. The camera uses the company's intelligent Scene Recognition System with 3D Color Matrix Metering II for beautiful, high-def images. This metering takes into account brightness, contrast, subject distance, and the scene colors for accurate, balanced photos. The i-TTL flash, auto white balance, subject tracking, and autofocus all come into play as well.
The D600 is an HDSLR, featuring 1080p HD video capture. Selectable frame rates include 30/25/24p at the highest resolution and 30/25/24p at 720p. Other useful features at the photographer's disposal for shooting movies include manual exposure control, full-time AF with face-priority, dedicated inputs for a stereo mic and headphones, Simultaneous Live View, and then some.
The Nikon D600 is compatible with F-mount NIKKOR interchangeable lenses (both FX and DX-format), giving the photographer a wealth of options. Additionally, the camera can be used with Nikon's WU-1b Wireless Mobile Adapter for wireless transfer of images to a smartphone or tablet. The adapter can even be used for remotely capturing images with the D600 using the compatible app.

A fair number of owners have complained about spots on sensors of new D600s, many folks concluding that the spots are caused by oil. I'd advise caution unless oil is verified as the cause. My new D600 developed spots too, but in spite of Nikon's gracious offer to clean the sensor at no cost, I elected to take the camera to a local authorized repair shop for a look at the spots. Lo and behold, they were dust, not oil. While I was a little disappointed that the new camera needed cleaning so soon, I just got the work done and moved on.
As for my experience with this model, I transitioned to it from a D7000 (still on hand as a backup), and I am so happy I did! My subjects comprise mostly birds in flight, and reach is critical, so I've always thought that the added perceived reach attained with the APS-C sensor was a requirement. However, I have found that the superb resolution of this camera, combined with its very fast and accurate auto-focus and noise handling, allow me to take my flying birds, crop, and still come out with photos that clearly superior to what my D7000 would've yielded. For me, the camera's resolution is, as Goldilocks might say, "just right!" The raw images are large, to be sure, but quite manageable (vs. the D800), and beautiful.
The D600 also lets you shift into DX mode, so if you already have DX lenses and/or want that crop-factor reach (though your resolution does go down!), you can basically have two cameras in one. I think this is brilliant.
Another feature I like very much, and which has saved me from myself many times, is the locking mode dial on top of the camera. No more worries about the dial accidentally slipping from one setting to another; you know that however you set your camera the last time you used it will be how it's set the next time you pick it up. What a relief!
No camera is perfect, but, this D600 has already proven to me to be a worthwhile instrument, a path to better photos, and is my go-to camera now. I believe it is a great value as well. And, the cleaning of the spots is but a distant memory.

Comments about Nikon D600 Digital Camera (Body Only):
I'm a professional photographer who was looking to upgrade my secondary camera, specifically something lighter than my D3 to use for weddings. I went with the D600 and have used it for the past few weeks. It seems great... but there are a few drawbacks that I wish weren't there.
1. The battery is different/smaller from my D3, which is to be expected if I wanted a lighter camera.
2. The memory card is not the same as the D3, which is a HUGE negative, in my opinion. If the D600 is supposed to be a professional camera, I wish it took the flash card like my other professional camera. Keeping track of two different batteries, two different battery chargers, two different kinds of memory cards... it's not convenient.
3. I will have to upgrade my Lightroom software and my Photoshop software to edit the RAW images.
I have yet to edit the images from the past two weeks, but the camera seems to work wonderfully. If I can get past the totally different size memory card that this camera requires, I could end up loving this camera. I needed to upgrade my software anyway...
THANK YOU to B&H for sending me the right size memory card with my order... without you I would have had a major problem!

I use this primarily for landscape and other "nature" photography. With 24mp it provides amazing image quality and lets me make tack-sharp prints up to 24 x 40 (limited by my printer) even from cropped images. As always with Nikon, well designed and laid-out controls, comfortable grip. I chose this over the D800 because of lower price and lighter weight.

Comments about Nikon D600 Digital Camera (Body Only):
I bought the D600 in December just prior to Christmas. I was by very happy with the pictures taken with the camera. Took many pictures of gymnastics in gyms with very poor lighting. Even with ISO as high as 6400, I was very impressed with the photos taken by the D600.
Then I went on vacation and took many landscape photos with aperatures at f10 and above, that's when the oil spots really became noticeable. Some pictures that included a lot of sky and clouds had spots littering the upper left third of the frame. Shortly after returning home, Nikon officially acknowledged that the D600 had some sensor spot issues. I contacted Nikon, sent the camera to them to fix the problem. After being promised to have my camera back in 6-10 days, it was finally returned to me 5 weeks later.
The first thing I did was take a picture @ f/22 of a white poster board, pleased to see no spots, problem solved right? Not quite! About a week and 250 shutter releases later I took another landscape with sky in it @ f/16 , more spots in upper left third of the frame. Another picture of the white poster board showed new sensor spots since the Nikon service!!!
After a few angry conversations with Nikon customer service, my D600 is on it's way back to Nikon, with pictures of the new sensor spots. I will write a conclusion to this story when I hear back from Nikon

This is the best of my four Nikon DSLRs, and my first full framer. It has solid build quality and takes fantastic photos. Low light capabilities are wonderful. The feel is great in your hand. However, be aware that the reported instances of D600s coming out with oil drops on the sensor are correct. My first one from B&H was like that, but B&H provided its usual good service and replaced it very quickly with another one that was fine. Nikon has had a real slipup here in its quality control. If you get one, check it out immediately.

After my entry into the digital camera market with a simple point and shoot, I chose a DX camera and loved it. So I stuck with a DX for 6 years. I had a fun time working on my photography skills.
Then this year I decided it was time for an upgrade. I reviewed tons of websites, include ADORAMA, and finally chose the Nikon D600. WOW!!! Really...that's my initial impression. I love how the colors are sharp and how easy to use its features. I would absolutely recommend the D600 to anyone thinking to take their photography skills to the next level. I'm there and the camera makes me feel like a more confident and experienced photographer. Give it a try...you won't want to put it down. I haven't yet.

The ergonomics of this camera makes it very easy to handle. Almost the same grip as the D7000 which made it easier for my wife to handle.
I purchased this for a Disneyland and San Diego beach vacation and it performed extremely well. More specifically it allowed me to take shots in very low light with ISO 6400 and the pictures are all keepers. I used the video feature for the first time as well and I was more than pleased with the output.
My only issue is the clustering of the focus points. It's tad tighter than the rest of the Nikon models.

This was an upgrade to my Nikon D5200, and what an upgrade it has been. First of all, the thing I am most impressed with is how easy this camera is to use, myself being generally new to photography. This is a semi-pro camera that can quickly be used by a newbie or "pre-ametuer" photographer like myself. Great resulution and crisp images.

Comments about Nikon D600 Digital Camera (Body Only):
I brought this camera for use in a documentary. In all instances where I was to use this camera, I wanted to shoot with available light which I found the camera handled well. It works well in low light, backlight and direct light. However I returned the camera because I didn't like the color (I'm very particular that colors be reproduced as close to the original as possible - precise color of subjects cannot be reproduced in Photoshop). The color is greenish and dull.
I also needed this camera for video which I found to be of terrible quality. The moire and overall quality of the video was also a big factor in my returning this camera.

Comments about Nikon D600 Digital Camera (Body Only):
I have owned a D2H and D2X for years, but really wanted a camera with good high ISO performance. The D600 looked like it would fit that bill quite well.
Two weeks and 600 shots later, all I can say is WOW - this camera far exceeds my expectations. Image quality is absolutely stunning, and I can finally take pictures with ISO values above 500 without having to worry about noise. In fact, I just keep it on ISO-Auto and just forget about it! All the way up to ISO 6400, results are incredible - that's low light photography at its best :)
I got the Nikkor AF-S 28-300 f/3.5-5.6G ED VR with it, as I wanted a light travel kit - loving every minute of it, after years of lugging around a D2X with several lenses :)
For critical work, I will continue to use my trusted AF-S zoom trio (17-35, 28-70, 80-200, all 2.8) which I've had since my F5 film days. Even my 10.5 DX lens is still usable as the D600 automatically switches to DX mode when DX lenses are mounted.
I can now again enjoy real wide-angle with this FX body, and after years of DX bodies, I'm really finding depth-of-field of FX much more pleasant.
Other plusses: awesome LCD screen, 2 SD card slots, U1-U2 user settings (loving these!), Live View.
On the minus side - ruggedness doesn't come close to the D2X, but I didn't really expect this anyway - Nikon has the D3/D4 if that's a requirement . Dedicated AF-ON button is missing (but I can assign this to the Fn button), and the SD card door is maybe a tad too easy to open accidentally.
No issues with the AF system - I'd read several complaints about the AF points being too much grouped together in the middle, but so far that's not been an issue at all.
Bottom line for me - I couldn't be happier with this purchase!

This is a semi-pro camera that can quickly be used by a newbie or "pre-ametuer" photographer like myself. Great resulution and crisp images.

I use this camera for mainly landscape photography. On a recent trip to Barcelona, Spain took many great shots. Camera is easy to use, has great color rendition - shot mainly in shutter priority. Fill flash is fabulous, vastly superior to my D90.
Greatest things about the camera, picture quality, sharpness, color and weather resistant.

This camera feels spectacular in the hand and has control placements that allow the photographer to focus on the shot, not the buttons and dials.

This is my first FX camera and I love it so far. Great quality and amazing detail. The AF clustered is not that big of an issue for me so it fits my needs perfectly. I recommend the optional battery grip if you will be using heavy lenses. ISO is amazing. Shot photos with ISO 3200 and couldn't believe the results that came out.

I love everything about it. The full format is wonderful. The 6400 ISO is fabulous. The lightness of the camera is excellent since I use it a lot doing wildlife on mountain trails.
