Nikon's D600 Digital Camera with 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR Lens features a full-frame 24.3MP FX-format CMOS sensor in a compact body and an all-purpose zoom lens that suits most situations. And with a full-sized sensor also comes a powerful engine; the EXPEED 3 processing system enables features such as 5.5 fps continuous shooting at full resolution. Also, compact as it may be, the D600 still fits in a 3.2" LCD monitor.
The 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR Lens included with the D600 camera body is a standard lens that can capture everything from wide-angle to telephoto, allowing the photographer to shoot to their heart's content from day one. It further features a 7-blade rounded diaphragm opening, which enables bokeh, three aspherical lens elements, one extra-low dispersion ED element, and auto tripod detection.
The D600 camera body also has other hardy features that allow the camera to stretch for the photographer's needs. Such features include a wide ISO range of 100-6400, which is also expandable to 50-25600. This allows shots to be captured in a variety of lighting situations, from low-light to bright, with minimal image noise. The camera also has 39 focus points for wide-area AF coverage for both stills and HD video capture.
Other ways that the D600 enables the photographer to focus on the job at hand include features like Nikon's well-known metering and onboard intelligence. The camera uses the company's intelligent Scene Recognition System with 3D Color Matrix Metering II for beautiful, high-def images. This metering takes into account brightness, contrast, subject distance, and the scene colors for accurate, balanced photos. The i-TTL flash, auto white balance, subject tracking, and autofocus all come into play as well.
The D600 is an HDSLR, featuring 1080p HD video capture. Selectable frame rates include 30/25/24p at the highest resolution and 30/25/24p at 720p. Other useful features at the photographer's disposal for shooting movies include full-time AF with face-priority, dedicated inputs for a stereo mic and headphones, Simultaneous Live View, and then some.
The Nikon D600 is compatible with F-mount NIKKOR interchangeable lenses (both FX and DX-format), giving the photographer a wealth of options. Additionally, the camera can be used with Nikon's WU-1b Wireless Mobile Adapter for wireless transfer of images to a smartphone or tablet. The adapter can even be used for remotely capturing images with the D600 using the compatible app.
Three Aspherical Lens Elements This is another unique Nikon innovation, which virtually eliminates coma and other types of aberration, further improving image integrity
One Extra-low Dispersion (ED) Element A single ED element offers superior sharpness and color correction by effectively minimizing chromatic aberration - even at the widest aperture settings
Nikon Super Integrated Coating (SIC) Nikon's Super Integrated Coating enhances light transmission and offers superior color consistency and reduced flare
M/A (Manual/Auto) Focus Mode Switch This NIKKOR lens features a focusing mode which allows switching from automatic to manual focusing with virtually no lag time by simply turning the focusing ring on the lens
Exclusive Nikon Silent Wave Motor (SWM) A significant innovation in AF lens technology, Nikon's Silent Wave Motor uses ultrasonic (inaudible) vibrations-rather than a gear system-to focus the lens, providing incredibly smooth, silent and precise autofocus operation
Close Focus With a close range focus, you'll be able to focus to 1.25 feet at every focal length
Nikon VR (Vibration Reduction) Image Stabilization Nikon VR (Vibration Reduction) Image Stabilization, which is tailored to each lens, enables handheld shooting at up to four shutter speeds slower than would otherwise be possible for dramatically sharper images and HD videos - even in low light
Auto Tripod Detection Nikon's Vibration Reduction image stabilization system recognizes when the camera is mounted on a tripod and provides precise shutter vibration correction
Internal Focusing All internal optical movement is limited to the interior of the non-extending lens barrel, which allows for a more compact, lightweight construction - as well as a closer focusing distance
Rounded 7-Blade Diaphragm The rounded 7-blade diaphragm renders a beautiful, natural background blur (Bokeh) at its wider aperture settings
Other Features -Wide angle G-Type lens with distance information -Three aspherical elements and one extra-low dispersion glass ED element

When the D600 came out my wife agreed that we should just go for this camera as our first DSLR. We agreed that it was better to pay the extra cost to go full frame from the start rather than to start collecting lenses for APS-C cameras and the have to sell them if we wanted to upgrade later. Great decision. This camera rocks. It is very nice to have such a fantastic camera. We're just learning the camera, but even in auto mode it takes fantastic and detailed pics.
We did have some DSLR experience by borrowing a D5100 for a few trips. We liked that one, but it is no comparison to the D600 in terms of image quality, low light capability, and quick and accurate focus.
If you can afford it, why not go for it?
If you are of the Canon faith rather than the Nikon faith, the more-or-less equivalent Canon 6D will be out soon. If you don't know which camera religion you belong to, then check with your camera fanatic friends.
Picky pros have issues with this camera that will never be issues for me. If you like to take pictures and want really amazing pictures, but don't care about the uber-extreme advanced features, then this or the Canon 6D are the best.

After my D300, the D600 seems a little bit of a step down back to the D70 in all but one regard, obviously, that is the larger sensor. I miss the dedicated levers for autofocus area and meter pattern, which I use all the time on the D300. It is really an annoyance to fiddle with the command dials while holding another button to make autofocus adjustments, which is not so easy in various situations in the field. I am uncomfortable with the autofocus options and performance and am still trying to get a system down with autofocus. Basically the maximum focus detection area is too small, so for example, 3 tall guys in a line with a short person in front of them might end up focusing on the 3 guys and blur the short person in front. My outdoor nature photos so far are just great. Live view is certainly improved over my D300, and taking movies is a fun novelty, but watch out for lens noise if you change focus, it goes on the audio track as irksome rapid clicks. I also find that I am more judicious in deleting photos now that they are larger files. All in all, the upgrade to the larger sensor D600 was good given the special holiday pricing options, but I still plan on using my D300 too. After about 170 shots I found a spot on sensor, but I knew that was coming, given the reports of others (see attached photo at Morro Bay, spot is left side middle above boat mast).
The 24-85mm lens was a free bonus on the D600 holiday special, but I had wanted it anyway since I realized my exisiting 24mm & 50mm would be a pain to change in many situations. It is a good range, with minimal distortion, but 72mm filters don't mix with other lenses I have, such as the Nikon 28-300mm lens I got to go with the 24-85mm. Lens hood is a bit of a logistical pain in camera bag since it is so long. The images are sharp and I am happy with the lens. I am still getting used to the new sound of autofocus/stabilization system, which is quiet, but still is picked up by the D600 movie mode audio track.

Comments about Nikon D600 Digital Camera with 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR Lens:
I have used the D600 for about a week now and all I can say is WOW! The picture quality in all settings is outstanding. I have taken pictures both outdoors and in clubs and it has outperformed my expectations.
The picture quality in low light is very good with little noise especially for shooting at high ISO's.
Outdoors it produces magnificent quality photos with exceptional sharpness.
The battery life that I have observed is quite good as well! I took it out from 8 AM till 5 PM thinking I would need a second battery. To my surprise I didn't, infact I didn't even come close to using half of one!
The only thing that I would change on this camera is the location of the button that changes the ISO. It's a little hard to change it on the fly.

Comments about Nikon D600 Digital Camera with 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR Lens:
Im totally in love with this camera. Rearranged buttons take a bit to get used to but it totally makes sense now and I couldn't go back. Incredible low light quality and performance. Depth of field on the FX blows DX away. The "dust" issue is a farce. One swipe with a cleaning swab after 2000 clicks and its totally gone. No big deal. Integrated WIFI would have been nice but whatever. I got one of those cheap auction site glass covers for the screen and it really improves chimping. Battery life sucks at first but gets better after that initial new camera shutter happiness and the battery breaks in. I was charging every day but now it can go a few sessions. I definitely recommend a spare. Videos are nice. Hopefully firmware corrects the aperture in live mode.

Comments about Nikon D600 Digital Camera with 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR Lens:
First I will say I sent the camera back to Nikon for the well known dust issue and they are cleaning/repairing it under warranty. It has been in there possession now since Mar. 3 and as of today, March 21, no mention of it getting shipped back.
However, I would consider the dust issue I had minor and almost considered not sending it in. But, if they felt it was needed and were to be covered under warranty, then why not! And if they said the problem was not bad enough I'd have been okay with that and had them send it back, no charge to me, and would have been very happy as is. But, they said it was covered so I sit and wait for it to be completed and sent back.
I bought the camera for the high resolution and high dynamic range (it replaced my D700) and on both accounts I could not be any happier. I'm also very impressed with how much better the auto exposure in either Program, Shutter or Aperture modes gets it "right" compared to the D700. Not that the D700 was a slouch but the D600 is fantastic.
I am annoyed by the camera dial as I much preferred the button set up of the D700, but that is fairly minor and has no bearing on the quality of photos.

I've wanted to get a full frame digital camera ever since they started making them, but could never come close to being able to afford one until recently. This is easilly the best camera I've ever owned, and I've had a bunch over the years. In addition to my D600, my current crop includes a NEX 7 and a D5000. I use all 3 but I enjoy the D600 the most. Forget the dirty sensor issue. Problem is way over blown.

Comments about Nikon D600 Digital Camera with 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR Lens:
Good news! - No oil spots so far. Several thousand pics.
Bad news - Autofocus system is not that great.
Lots of points but all clustered near the center of the frame. Didn't check the reviews close enough to catch that or realize how much I would miss the wider spread.
Using a Nikon 28-300 VR-II lens it misses a lot of shots due to focus being a few inches up to a foot off. Using single focus point it seems to be looking at an adjacent point. On smaller objects this can really screw things up when using the longer end of the telephoto.
And no, the 24-84 was having the same problems.
Also it just plain fails to lock on sometimes, particulary in portrait with some of the outside points. Even on geometrical figures with good contrast that should be a breeze for it.
Also not any better in low light than d7000 or d90 systems were. Possibly worse.
Great pics when it is on but it is off a lot. Problem is that about 90% of these are close enough to look good during a quick check on the LCD but when you start blowing them up you realize the dogs tail is in perfect focus but the nose and eyes are fuzzy.

I bought this camera for it's VIDEO capability and as a replacement/compliment to my d700. BOTH have their PROS, which is why I'm having a hard time selling my d700. I've got the Holy trinity so it also pays to keep it so I don't have to swap lenses as often. The video is great on this camera when compared to a typical HDvideo camcorder. Only gripe is the smooth autofocus, which ALL DSLR's lack when compared to a true video camcorder. I haven't taken much photos with the camera and haven't observed/noticed the infamous oil/dust issues. So hopefully my camera is immune to this problem. So far, I am a happy camper with the d600. only gripe is that it doesn't have LiveView Aperture adjustment and a swivel LCD screen.

Im just starting to enjoy this camera. It's compact and has everything in place. It's easy to use and find the commands at hand.
The sensor is reliable, fast. The 24,3 MP gives an amazing image quality in RAW and a good "canvas" to work with. The program that comes with the camera is very simple but good to save the data and do some basic work on the pics.
The 24-85 mm lens that comes with the camera is a very good lens. Good enough for his f/.3,5-4,5.
I need to use a bit more this camera but I truly recommend it.

Comments about Nikon D600 Digital Camera with 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR Lens:
I've only used point-and-shoots and smartphones up to this point but I wanted better quality pictures of my 15-month old. I was disappointed in the performance and quality of the pictures taken by a top-end point-and-shoot I had bought right before my son was born. I decided to take the DSLR plunge with the D600 and was immediately impressed by the pictures I took just in its auto mode. The colors were sharp, contrast and depth were amazing. The camera is fast and was able to capture many photos that my previous point-and-shoot either outright missed or was only able to come away with blurry photos. I've been playing around with other preset exposures such as portraits and landscapes and they produce great shots as well. I'm looking forward to using the advanced modes and even going manual with key settings such as the aperture, shutter speed, the focus to have full creative control. Before this camera I wasn't too interested in these things. Just get everyone in the frame and make sure the shot wasn't blurry. The D600 takes great pictures out of the box, and makes you excited and interested in taking your photography to the next level.

I have been using my Nikon D7000 for 1 1/2 years and am satisfied at it without any problem. I decided to upgrade to D600 since its operation is almost the same as D7000 which is so easy and convenient. The big difference between 2 is FX and DX. I prefer to use D600 because I can select high end quality FX lens and it is on promotion with 24-85mm lens kit. The lens is super sharp compared to 24-70mm lens although it has distortion when it set to 24mm. Also, D600 is much more smooth when shooting at high ISO. I never regret to upgrade it.

Starting my photography business and needed a full frame camera.
This was an upgrade from the D3100 for me which was my first non-point and shoot.
There are so many functions to this camera that this review is not for the full capabilities but suffice it to say I am impressed.
The user settings on the dial to "save" your favorite or most used settings is awesome. Having HDR and time lapse built in are the icing on this cake.

I upgraded to a full-framed sensor, and I am thrilled with my new D600. Previously, I have owned a D70, and D200. I also own the D7000 which may serve me as either a backup or Infrared conversion.
I moved up to a full frame sensor because most of my glass is fx. Wanted to use my 85 1.4 (cream machine) on this baby, and I was not disappointed.

I was looking for a DSLR for HD video to produce how-to product videos. My personal photographer recommended both B&H and the Nikon D600. I was not disappointed with either the camera or B&H. I have been mostly an amature photographer for over 40 years. The D600 is the best camera that I have ever owned or used. Even though it has more features imaginable it is very user friendly especially for someone who is not familiar with all that the camera is capable of doing. For my purposes the camera has no negatives that I have so far become aware of.

I use a camera for recreation and travel. My D70S worked great for animals on an African Safari and in Patagonia and in many other places but, so far, this D600 and FX format ia a very big jump in possibilities. Comments about Nikon D600 Digital Camera with 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR Lens:
As a fine art and landscape photographer this was the camera I was waiting for. I have been shooting with a DX sensor for some time (D90 and D7000) and this was the body that took me to a full size FX sensor.
While I have not spent a tremendous amount of time with the camera, the consistency of the menu and controls from my D90 and D7000 made the camera fit well and lowered the learning curve for me. That is huge. I shot with one of my DX lenses (10-24) with acceptable results but I look forward to just keeping this on my DX and moving forward with additional FX lenses like the kit lens and my 70-300.
