I use a wired remote shutter release a lot (do mostly landscape images). I purchased a Vello wired remote (AZ0512) not long ago. It worked fine until the wire connecting the cable to the shutter release end of the device split. Afterwards it only work intermitently. I replaced it with the Nikon MC-30A wired remote. The Nikon has all the same features including shutter hold lock for Bulb mode use. The quality of the Nikon seems better. It remains to be seen if it is more durable than the Vello (only had the Nikon a month). The Nikon MC-30A feels more comfortable in my hand. The release button is at the top of the device and the shutter hold button on the side (Vello uses a combo button). This makes it easy to use a few different finger combinations to trigger the release and, if necessary, slide the hold lock bar. The cable length is about the same as the Vello. A white arrow on the camera connection end of the Nikon cable makes connecting it to the camera easy and fool proof.

Much better (the cable is much more flexible) than the MC-30 I just lost. This is what a cable release should feel like. I think Nikon realized the problem.

Comments about Nikon MC-30A Remote Trigger Release:

It is essential if you make multi expo on tripod, because even the smallest touch of the camera can make a tiny move, even on sturdy tripods.
I used to have a wireless trigger release -Vello-, but I had problems with that all the time and after about 9 months it went wrong.
This Nikon is more expensive and it isn't wireless, but I feel sure that it will last much longer and will be more reliable.
I have to use it everyday for my photo jobs and I am satisfied with it.

I lost my remote shutter release while shooting in New Mexico a couple of weeks ago. I never had liked the tiny chrome locking wheel and it was difficult to thread. So on return home I ordered a new one and I was very surprised when I opened the package to find a large thumb wheel had replaced the chrome wheel. This one threads on like a dream and is very positive in operation. Thank you Nikon.

I have had a MC-30 cable release for several years. I replaced it with the 30A when the cable was chewed by a pet. The 30A replacement looks as well made and durable as my 30. The 30A works as described. The major difference that I see from the MC-30 is the 10-pin connection. The 30A has a knob that is larger and much easier to turn to affix or remove the remote from the camera.
My only fault is that iIt is a bit pricey, especially compared to similar non-Nikon releases.

Comments about Nikon MC-30A Remote Trigger Release:

I have used the cheaper generic versions of a D800 and D600 cable (shutter) release. All seem to work but poorly and with too much pressure needed to activate the shutter.

The Nikon product is overpriced, but smooth and much easier on your trigger finger. Worth the cost for greater reliability and less fatigue.

                                Buy it.

Comments about Nikon MC-30A Remote Trigger Release:

This "cable release" performs as you'd hope it would, with no surprises of sensitivity or travel in the button while the knurled screw attachment to my D800 is reassuringly secure and easy for big fingers to accomplish. Its a simple thing that does what the name implies. Issues: While the size of the button end is very easy to handle and find in low light it is large, but maybe I'm just being nostalgic for the old fabric cable releases that used to cost a losable $ and basically did the same thing. The pin arrangement on the coupling dictates the orientation of the attachment and while that orientation is probably optimal for most purposes, it does present a bind point when moving my Really Right Stuff QR lever; all I have to do is move the cable aside and things are fine but it now has a permanent kink acquired while I learned that lesson.

Comments about Nikon MC-30A Remote Trigger Release:
