The red MeFoto RoadTrip Travel Tripod Kit offers a sturdy, compact aluminum alloy tripod that extends to 61.6", supports up to 17.6 lb, and folds down to just over 15". The RoadTrip is actually two camera supports in one. A foam-cushioned, removable leg attaches to the center column to convert to full size monopod.

The tripod's legs can be spread independently, with two-position leg angle stops. A spring-loaded hook is located in a recess at the bottom of the center column, allowing you to hang a heavy object from it for additional stability.

The ball head offers separate head and pan locks, a 360° pan index, and an integral bubble level. An Arca-type quick-release plate with a 1/4"-20 camera screw is included in the kit, along with a durable carry case with a shoulder strap for storage and transport.

Two Position Leg Angle Stops
For an extra measure of flexibility, tripod legs can be independently locked into place at two different angles to enable shooting in cramped quarters, on uneven terrain or at low camera angles.
Foam Grip on Monopod Leg
Provides comfort while carrying, especially in extreme temperatures.
Rapid Center Column
Uses the same twist-lock system as the legs for fast setup.
Recessed Center Column Hook
A spring loaded recessed hook, located in the bottom of the center column, allows you to hang a heavy object for increased stability.
Quick Twist Rubber Lock Grips with Anti-Rotation Leg System
MeFoto's rubberized locking grips combined with anti-rotation legs enable fast and fumble-free setup plus weather and dust resistance.
Precision Matched Ball Head
Dual-action heavy duty ball head with Arca-type compatible quick-release plate.
360 Degree Panning
Accurate panoramas can be easily accomplished using the graduated panning scale for accurate image alignment.
Separate Head and Pan Lock
Individual locking knobs make adjustments easy.
Integral Bubble Level
The bubble level allows you to make accurate adjustments for seamless panoramas.
Carrying Case
Each MeFoto tripod comes with its own carrying case for transport and protection.

I've had a chance to take this tripod on several wildlife photography trips. I thought that I might be cheating myself a bit due to the price, but I have been pleasantly surprised. This is a great tripod for the price. The ability to hold 17.6 pounds is amazing.

    Camera: Canon 70D
Lens: Canon 40mm pancake - Perfect
Lens: Canon 100mm IS L - Pretty solid.
Lens: Canon 400mm - A bit shaky, but works perfectly with 2sec delay or high shutter speed.

I have not used the included spikes which would probably improve stability, but not significantly. The switch to monopod is fantastic.

    Would purchase again.

Used with a light camera for backpacking and general walking around.

The good: reasonably light weight and well finished, everything operates smoothly and legs and head lock firmly.

    The bad:

    1. With lowest leg sections extended or the column up vibrations are easily excited and take many seconds to dampen. This may go with the territory in this weight/price range it's a real limitation - so keep them down, use shutter delay and mirror lock up, etc.

    2. The ball shifts some upon final tightening, enough to skew a shot - compensating ahead of time helps as does aligning the head so the shift can be corrected with one leg. Others of this model in the store also were like this. One can get better heads, but for much more money and they're heavier.

    3. Pay attention to the knobs, it would be easy to inadvertently loosen the camera plate. This is easily corrected by wrapping the plate knob with cloth tape, but it would be better if this knob were a different shape or texture than the alignment knobs.

    4. Separate foot pads and spikes require a tool to change, but it does come with both.

Overall it's a useful product but be aware of it's limitations.

A very well built travel tripod. Lots of nice features. Easily transformed into a light weight monopod. Included ball head has an additional knob to control the amount of resistance when adjusting the camera position. Folds very compactly for travel purposes. Center post has a built-in hook for adding weight to aid stability.
Legs can be locked in two positions for additional flexibility.

I bought the MeFOTO RoadTrip Tripod to use with a INDURO GHBA Gimbal Head and with my Nikon 200-500mm lens.

It's a good compromise between stability and weight.

It fits, with the carrying bag IN the Lowepro Pro Runner BP 450 AW II Backpack.

Comments about RoadTrip Aluminum Travel Tripod Kit (Blue):

I was in the market for a new tripod...one with a ballhead and which I can attach my Black Rapid M-Plate Pro to. This tripod was it!
It's sturdy, lightweight which makes it great to walk around with and it's compact design when folded makes to great to travel with. The included carrying case is well built also. The option of changing from rubber feet to spiked metal feet (which are included) is nice.
The two position legs allow you to get lower to the ground when needed.
It doesn't seem to have any problem supporting my Canon 70D with battery grip and Tamron 18-270mm lens.

Comments about RoadTrip Aluminum Travel Tripod Kit (Titanium):

I've just upgraded to the roadtrip tripod and I'm very happy with this purchase. The leg locks are very easy to operate and very secure, the ball head has enough resistance and stays in place easily with my DSLR attached. I like the fact that it can quickly convert to be a monopod and has a convenient center hook to add weight for additional stabilization. I would recommend his tripod to anyone looking for a cost-effective solution. Of course B&H's fast shipping and excellent customer service is always welcome.

Comments about RoadTrip Aluminum Travel Tripod Kit (Titanium):

I've owned several tripods over the years, but there is something special about these MeFoto tripods. Tripods are always bigger and heavier than you want them to be, but the backpacker is a great size for a smaller camera system and will not weigh you down too much. The included ball head is smooth and works great. You can spend a lot more on a tripod and head without necessarily getting a better product. If the MeFoto Backpacker is within your budget, it is worth every penny and probably the best value you can get out of a lightweight tripod. The only real 'con' that I would note is that the quick release plate does require a tool for secure attachment to the camera.

Comments about RoadTrip Aluminum Travel Tripod Kit (Red):

I bought one of these tripods for myself and one for my son (different colors to avoid confusion) so we could do more travel and hiking photography. So far we have used the RoadTrip on three trips, and the result has been some great landscape and wildlife shots without the awkwardness and weight of our older tripod. It packed in a daypack easily and was easy to carry in the field for several hours.

In particular, the ball head, its separate head (which I attached to my DSLR for quick mounting), and the easy twist leg locks (I literally used one hand to lock and unlock the legs) were a serious step up from what we had been using.

Operating the ball head and its locks took some experimentation (the instruction booklet is lacking in detail on this), but after a few trial and error settings we got the hang of it. This head enabled me to shift from horizontal to vertical axis shots in mere moments, and re-orientating my camera from straight shots to incline shots took seconds. I also was able to easily track moving animals using the panning feature.

All in all, this was an excellent purchase, and we hope to get many years of service out of the Roadtrip tripods.

This tripod is well-made, compact, and lightweight but still can hold my Canon 7DII with a 300mm lens. It easy and fast to extend the legs up or down. It comes with a nice carrying case and the whole thing can fit in a regular size backpack which is what I was looking for. I like that it can be converted into a monopod when needed. The included ballhead is great as well.

Ive been researching on Youtube (haha, sometimes its the only resource you have for professional opinions) for the best bang-for-your-buck tripod, and this product constantly showed up. No kidding, it's a very versatile and strong tripod. It's great for the Average Joe photographer. I havent used it to its full potential yet. I would say that its pretty comparable to the 3 Legged Things tripods, just because they're much much cheaper.

Comments about RoadTrip Aluminum Travel Tripod Kit (Orange):

I have used this tripod in the urban landscape of Manhattan, and the cold winter of Canada, with great success. In both cases it has performed like a champ.

This is a very solid tripod that holds my mirrorless (Sony a6000) very sturdy. Even in fairly high winds its as solid as a rock. It is light enough to lug around for an entire day-long hike without weighing me down, but useful enough to want to carry it with me all day.

It sets up quickly, and the ball head works well. I already used the Arca plate system from Peak Design, and this tripod works well with that.

You can't really go wrong with this tripod.

Comments about RoadTrip Aluminum Travel Tripod Kit (Titanium):

I've owned a MeFOTO Backpacker tripod for 2 years and, while I like it, its load capacity of < 9 lbs. was a concern when I needed my professional-grade DSLR and a big lens. The MeFOTO is a great alternative, as it can carry almost 18 lbs. The tripod is well-constructed and the controls work as well as advertised. It's small enough to take with me when hiking and fits easily in my checked luggage when I fly. I especially like the feature that allows one to detach one leg and use it as a monopod; in fact, I did that very thing yesterday at a sporting event, when I was stuck in the bleacher section and needed my 100-400 telephoto zoom lens. Is this tripod as good as my top-of-the-line carbon fiber professional model? No, but it does the job nicely when I need portability. MeFOTO makes very good products and the RoadTrip is a good example.

Comments about RoadTrip Aluminum Travel Tripod Kit (Titanium):

This tripod is great for travel and all around use. It was purchased to take on a trip to Iceland and I carried it on all of our day hikes. It can fold up very compact and fit in a backpack or in a small carry on bag.
It's not the lightest tripod available but it is fairly sturdy, and had no issue holding an Olympus E-M10. The hook at the bottom of the center tube for hanging weight made everything more stable in windy conditions.
The padded leg detaches and can be used as a monopod. Pretty cool if you don't want to carry the whole thing.
There were no issues using it in cold (near freezing) and rainy weather. The leg adjustments work well and the ball head is particularly nice for a tripod of this price. The option to use either rubber feet or the optional supplied metal spikes is a nice feature.
I've only got two complaints about this tripod. Sand gets into the threads on the legs very easily. It didn't cause binding but felt terrible and could damage the plastic threads if not cleaned out. When disassembling to clean them out you can see that the plastic inserts between the tubes are real flimsy, and a couple even cracked, but I put them back in and they seem to be working fine. It also would have been nice if they put padding on all three legs instead of just one.
Overall a nice piece that feels like it could support much heavier cameras.

I use this tripod for landscape photography and it's very compact. But one thing to notice for the crane and slider user is that this has five leg sections. Although it says can support up 17 lbs but the more leg sections the less steady u can get. Another thing tricks me is that I have to use a coin to tighten the plate but if this is a d-ring that will be perfect. As for the ball head, it is very smooth and it has friction control where u can tighten and loosen it.

I am a photography student so i don't have a huge amount of experience with other brands of tripods other than the older models I have used at school. That being said I am really happy with this tripod. The parts fell like they will last a long time. The threaded parts use a large thread so there is less chance of cross threading or stripping. I'm happy!

Super psyched on this thing. Using a D800 on it and it seems studry. Like how it can pack up small and it unfolds to a good height.
