The 500GB G-DRIVE mobile USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive by G-Technology is a slim, light (under 10 ounces) portable hard drive for your Mac computer. It features USB 3.0/2.0 connectivity, a 500GB SATA hard drive and an all aluminum enclosure for efficient heat distribution.
The drive is factory formatted with HFS+ with Journaling and is Time Machine ready right out of the box. It's plug-and-play compatible with Mac OS X Leopard (10.5) or newer, but it can be reformatted for use with Windows.
You won't have to worry about cable clutter either, because the unit is self-contained, running on bus power directly from your computer's USB port. It can fit easily in a briefcase or laptop bag, and even has the aluminum look of a MacBook Pro.

Comments about G-Technology 500GB G-DRIVE mobile USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive:
I already own two other larger-capacity G-drives that have performed without hitch for quite a long time. This compact, lightweight yet powerful portable back up drive is just perfect for storing my images and other invaluable files. I'll be keeping it outside my house and at a third party location. Just as well that it's proving real easy to use. With its robust USB 3 connection, I just plug and play (or rather save). And, of course, the drive works great with Apple OS 10 Time Machine. So far no complaints.

Comments about G-Technology 500GB G-DRIVE mobile USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive:
Portable, solid drive that offers both USB 2 and 3.0 capabilities. Purchased this as an accessory to the Launchpad gifted to my son so he can store his musical compositions off his laptop.

Comments about G-Technology 500GB G-DRIVE mobile USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive:
This is a great drive to carry with a start up system - or a clone of your computer if possible. You can use it to download a copy of the photos you take on a trip as a back up storage. If something were to happen to your computer's hard rive, you can start up off this external drive and be back in business anytime.

Comments about G-Technology 500GB G-DRIVE mobile USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive:
I've only used this for a week, but it's great so far. I'm a travel photographer and on location in Bali now shooting a feature, then to Japan after this. I still carry the larger 4T G-Tech's with me, but this is a great backup solution that is super light. I've the 1T Mobile as well that I brought too. I know G-Techs are durable and it's all I use so far. I'm curious though to see if these Mobile's will hold up since they do seem a bit delicate. I'm thinking these are marketed to the consumer market not the professional market.
