This is probably the best book available on panoramic and object VR photography - written by Scott Highton, one of the leading experts in the industry. It is packed full of techniques, easy to understand explanations and comprehensive illustrations.

It covers not only the basics that anyone new to panoramic or object photography might need, but also extensive discussion of techniques and equipment that experienced pros will benefit from.

A complete section on business practices alone is worth the cost of the book for those serious about adding virtual tours and interactive panoramas to their professional photography business.

I bought this book before spending gobs of money to get into panoramic photography. The first 112 pages in in-depth theory of photography like taking a college-level photo/scientific theory course. The rest of the book conveys very expensive equipment is needed to do panoramics and tens to leave the reader feeling worn out and with no desire to explore into the field of panoramic photography. This is solely my opinion.

Comments about Book: Virtual Reality Photography: Creating Panoramic and Objective Images:

This really is the best book around on panoramic (and VR) photography. I'm a photography professor at a large university, and have the opportunity to review just about every photography technique book that gets published. This one is about as good as it gets, particularly in regard to panoramic photography and the foundations necessary in order to do it well. The book is written clearly and concisely, with regular "Technical Notes" for those that really want to delve into the technical nature of things. Yet the overall content is written in a very easy-to-understand form for even those just getting started. There are plenty of well-done illustrations throughout the book to make everything even clearer. It's obvious that the author is hismelf a great teacher, and master of his craft.I recommend this book highly, and will be using it as a textbook for future classes. (Reasonably priced, too.)

Comments about Book: Virtual Reality Photography: Creating Panoramic and Objective Images:

This book is more of a beginner guide to photography. The virtual reality information is not that clear and that's why I bought the book. I was looking for lens recommendations and none if that is here. It touches in lenses but basically rambles. Informative but not really what I hoped for.

Comments about Book: Virtual Reality Photography: Creating Panoramic and Objective Images:

When considering buying this book I was skeptical because of the complexities of VR, Panoramic Photography. Books that cover one area well and fall short in others are a waste of money and often time. But after the short time I've been reading and STUDYING it I've found it to be one of the best in my library. Overall Scott Highton's book is excellently written and complete. His explanation of the technical aspects that I knew and those that I wasn't familiar with are well written. As the recipient I've come away with a good understanding of these topics. It's my opinion even a novice could begin with this book and save a lot of money and time. The rest is up to me to apply what the author is attempting to convey.
Not only does the author share his technical knowledge and skills openly but more importantly; one of the most overlooked areas of professional photography is the business aspect. Without this we're just a bunch of STARVING ARTISTS no matter how GREAT A PHOTOGRAPHERS we are.
Not only is it well worth the time invested reading and studying but the price is great. Money & Time well spent.

Comments about Book: Virtual Reality Photography: Creating Panoramic and Objective Images:

This is a fantastic manual for panoramic and VR photographers. There's so much information and it's all made so easy to understand - even the technical stuff that you may or may not be so interested in. It was recommended to me by a fellow Google Trusted Photographer, who said it contained so much more useful information that what Google provides. It helped me take my work above and beyond what Google and their clients expect. It's the best $[$] you'll spend if you're doing panoramic or interactive VR photography, or even considering it. The extensive chapters on Basic Photography are probably a must read for ALL photographers, and the Business Practices chapters are worth the cost of the book alone.

I bought this book with a Nodal Ninja NN4, hoping it could answer some questions google wasn't able to easily answer. I found it to be much more than a book about VR photography- it covers basic photographic principles and on through some of the most advanced photo techniques I have encountered in my 15 year career. Case studies from the author's own experience shooting commercial VRs from its inception in the 90s, including the use of film cameras and stocks, to modern day digital cameras and lenses, to specialized equipment for VR like slit-scan cameras, fish eye lenses, adapters and other accessories for VR make this a comprehensive reference for the aspiring VR photographer, or the experienced pro who needs more background information. I was amazed to find very detailed descriptions of complicated engineering concepts behind digital photography that aids the understanding of how and why some everyday, as well as advanced, techniques work-or won't work in some situations. An excellent stand-alone photography textbook that also happens to meticulously document VR photography. Recommended.

Great book! I learned more from this book than I did in four years in photo school. From the the basic concepts of photography like composition & exposure to technical information about how it all works, the business side of photography, and the techniques for making great VR panoramas and objects.

If you're shooting VR tours, or doing even the most basic photography for the web, you should have this book.
