Comments about Yamaha P-35 Compact 88-Key Portable Digital Piano:

Very simple to play. Nice sound, very similar to the acoustic piano for not professional musician, at least. Little heavy but acceptable due its size.

Comments about Yamaha P-35 Compact 88-Key Portable Digital Piano:

I'm not a pianist, but I do tinker. I bought this for use at home, and for some use at gigs for a bandmate that does play. It sounds good, has some nice voicings, and is very easy to use. It's got a good feel for non-weighted keys, and it's easy to carry around. I do wish that instead of two "church organ" voices it had a more "rock-organ" sound.

Comments about Yamaha P-35 Compact 88-Key Portable Digital Piano:

I'm an experienced amateur in a local band using a Nord Electro 3 with excellent sounds: B-3, wurly, rhodes and lots of samples. The Nord's acoustic piano sounds are good but the semi-weighted keys make piano playing a delicate chore. I've been looking for a full-size hammer-weighted keyboard with MIDI to connect to the Nord and use its voices. I don't need lots of features like a large voice library, a display, buttons, drum machine, effects...that stuff drives the cost up and I don't need them. I used the P-35 for a gig recently and loved it. The action is very good and I found myself using the P-35's piano voice instead of the Nord's; it's fine when amplified and can cut through the sound congestion of a rock band. It doesn't have the brightness or string resonance of a better digital piano, but good enough.

Some nits: the weighted keys are easier to strike toward the front edge and get noticeably tougher toward the rear of the key. Real pianos don't do this (at least mine doesn't) and I didn't notice this on the P-35 until playing it back home. My guess is that this is common in keyboards this size (depth of the action) and price point. The cable connection area is recessed in the rear for a clean look but not particularly convenient if you're moving the keyboard much and plugging/unplugging frequently as I do.

I see that the P-35 is marketed mainly as a beginner's piano; it's probably just fine for that unless Johnny needs more buttons and doodads to hold his interest. For my needs, I'm quite satisfied for a very fair price...mission accomplished.

Comments about Yamaha P-35 Compact 88-Key Portable Digital Piano:

As a pianist for 6 years I have been looking for years for the perfect keyboard, its always hard to find your perfect sound and feel. I looked towards the korg sp-170 (great keyboard) and loved it but yamahas sound is probably the best out there, you would never think you would find a yamaha under $ EVER unless it was less than 88 keys or unweighted. Wen i found this keyboard i was amazed and just couldn't wait to order it. I love it and so do all my musician friends such as my friend who owns the korg, everyones jealous and Im happy
