The galaxy blue with gray trim Rover Pro 35L AW Backpack from Lowepro is a bit smaller than the 45L version but remains a serious pack for the outdoor enthusiast. With its multitude of capabilities and capacity, this pack can more than get you through a day in the field or an overnight hike or climb. Its gear capacity is considerable. The Rover will hold your pro DSLR with grip and attached 24-70mm f/2.8, one extra lens or flash plus a tripod or monopod. It even has room for your sleeping pad, small tent, ice axe or trekking poles plus additional personal items.

The Rover 35L also contains a very handy removable camera case which can be extracted to provide additional storage space should you wish to use the pack for a hike and not need camera gear. The case has movable, padded dividers, a removable accessory pouch with interior and exterior zippered mesh pockets and webbed grab handles. Multiple storage options and compartments give you total freedom to store, configure and access your gear as you prefer. Your gear can be retrieved either from the top or side hatch openings. A top zippered pocket is for quick access personals and includes a key ring that will save you the trouble of searching the entire bag for a single key. A front stash pocket is large enough for your jacket or helmet.

Additional storage capabilities include tripod or monopod connections at the side of the pack. Sleeping pad straps are provided on the bottom of the pack. And, your axe or trekking poles can be lashed to the provided attachment points.

The shoulder straps are adjustable to accommodate 16-19*" torsos (measured from the C4 vertebrae to the top of the iliac crest (near the hip). A removable waist belt is thickly padded with mesh and contains two zippered pockets for small items such as lip balm or snacks. The waist belt also helps wick away moisture for added comfort. Lowepro uses their AirFlow suspension system with breathable back panel. The panel is ventilated for excellent air flow and comfort and helps with load distribution while on your hike. Compression straps allow you to alter the overall footprint of the pack depending on how much gear you wish to carry.

The Rover 35L contains Lowepro's All-weather cover that will protect the entire pack when the weather turns against you. The reflective material and removable cover protects your gear from sun, sand and dust. The pack also contains space for an optional 2 liter hydration reservoir.

The Rover 35L is made from 210D triple-ripstop nylon with PU (polyurethane) coating for improved durability. The interior fabric is 200D polyester and the zippers are both #5 and #8 YKK design. With its large capacity, durability and flexibility and multiple storage options, the Rover 35L is an all-in-one way to go into the field for a day or overnight. It's backed by a limited lifetime warranty from Lowepro.

AirFlow suspension system offers a trampoline-style back panel with breathable spacer mesh that provides superb ventilation and optimal load transfer when trekking over rocky or varied terrain
Multiple storage options provide large volume capacity throughout the pack with a variety of spaces and modular compartments for storing camera and personal gear-for both day and overnight trips
Front hatch-style camera compartment with zippered closure provides customizable space for gear; offers water-resistant protection; may be converted to a fully functional, technical backpack when modular cases removed

I bought this backpack for my girlfriend before our trip out to the Tetons. We go backpacking 3 or 4 times a year. I didn't want to get her anything super expensive, but still wanted her to have a nice backpack that got the job done. She normally brings her DSLR camera along our hikes by carrying her normal camera bag like a purse around her shoulders. I thought it was time for an upgrade. The best things about this pack are a.) it protects the camera (it rained 3 days in a row while backpacking in WY and the camera was perfectly dry) b.) it makes the camera easily accessible--may not be perfect for a National Geographic photographer but seriously, in 5-10 seconds she could unzip and get her camera out ready to shoot--perfect for the average photographer. c.) you can take the camera bag out and the pack turns into a full pack with almost double the space. I would say my only gripe about the pack is that I wish it could hold just a little more. But then again, she had her camera, lenses, and batteries, a sleeping bag, rain jacket, food, camp pillow, pants, and some small accessories. I also bought the smaller version. It made it so much easier on me though, as I didn't have to carry every piece of camping gear this time! She didn't complain once about the fit or the weight (20 pounds when packed). Definitely recommend to the active, outdoorsy photographers out there.

The actual camera compartment, which is a separate removable bag, is not big enough to pack a pro body with 2 lenses (24-70 f2.8 and 70-200f2.8). This is a nice back pack with good suspension system and lots of room for personal gear but the needs for camera gear was an afterthought and not very accommodating. A big disappointment I had to return.

Comments about Lowepro Rover Pro 35L AW Backpack (Galaxy Blue with Light Gray Trim):

I've used the pack for retrieving groceries and other shopping necessities, but not so much hauling around camera equipment. In the former the pack is "built to last". Reason for the not so much comment, is that the "insert compartment" for camera gear was not designed for M4/3 system components, which I was somewhat aware of at the outset. Simply the compartment is too large to hold M4/3 gear securely w/out modification.

Bought this for mountain hiking trips. Plenty of room for what camera gear I need. Also plenty of room for other things such as layers, food, water. Even pretty much loaded it was very comfortable. No shoulder fatigue. The weight was mostly carried on my hips. Only thing I wish it had, was a mesh pocket for another water bottle.

      Amazing bag

Comments about Lowepro Rover Pro 35L AW Backpack (Galaxy Blue with Light Gray Trim):

I went hiking in teton and yellowstone, only day hikes. I had a 2L water reservoir on the side pocket, my tripod, my camera and one extra lens. The bag is of excellent quality and I honestly didn't even feel the weight on my shoulders. The straps on the hips are very well designed and help a lot aleviage the weight.

      Another great bag

Comments about Lowepro Rover Pro 35L AW Backpack (Galaxy Blue with Light Gray Trim):

This makes my sixth photo backpack. I needed more of a hiking backpack this time around. I plan on being in the field for 10+ hours. It fits my 5diii with attached 16-35 plus my 24-105. There is plenty of room to carry extra lenses but not in the photo compartment. Tripod holder is awesome. Holds my full sized carbon tripod easily. The water bladder is on the small side but works. The bag fits like a hiking pack pack. Bag sits on your hips so your shoulders are rested.

Get the 45L if you have a lot more photo gear (lenses).

      Great so far

      By El Danado

Comments about Lowepro Rover Pro 35L AW Backpack (Galaxy Blue with Light Gray Trim):

I bought this bag for a trip to the Caribbean, and didn't do any real hiking with it, so I can't really comment on its performance in that area. I also got it at an extreme discount, so I would probably be more critical if I had paid full price. With that said, I am really impressed with this bag. I have a Mountain Hardware bag that is a little bigger, but I have hardly ever used it, because it's one giant stuff sack. So it's a pain to get something out of the bottom. But having the ability to open up the Rover Pro in the front and access the separate camera storage case is awesome. For the plane ride down, I took the camera case out to maximize space in the bag. I was able to remove the waist belt (I knew I wasn't going to be doing a lot of hiking), and could put the main bag in the over head carry on bin and put the camera case part under the seat in front of me. I hadn't flown in a long time, so I thought the waist belt might have made the bag too big. But after seeing the other stuff some people were putting in the over head bin, I think I could have left it on without a problem.
One suggestion I would make make is that you pack some smaller items, like socks or something, below and to the sides of the camera storage bag. The way it inserts into the main bag still leaves some room around it. If you just start packing clothes above it from the top opening in the bag, you'll find that the camera case gets pushed down to the bottom, and won't line up with the front opening when you try to take it out later.
This bag is definitely well made. The clips, straps, drawstrings, and the bag material itself feel like their going to last a long time. It's super comfortable to wear, even fully loaded. The weight is evenly distributed to your hips and shoulders. I'm really looking forward to using it on some hiking trips this summer.

Good for day bag, carry on aircraft.

Held APC and 3 lenses, NOT PRO. Plus iPad and a quite few personal items.

This is good theft deterant since it looks like a backpack, not a camera bag.

This seemed to be a solid bag, however it was too small for my needs. My C100 and corresponding gear simply would not fit. I had to return it. Smaller DSLRs would fit, but again there isn't enough room for attachments, lenses and other gear. Really disappointing.

I absolutely love this backpack. Ive been meaning to buy a hiking backpack/camera backpack like this one for quite some time now, and when it came on sale for $ I just couldn't say no. This thing has pockets galore and I'm still finding pockets I didn't know were there and I've had the thing for a month and a half. I think I'm up to something like 14 pockets. It also is really comfy to wear as far as that type of bag goes. I had a lot of heavy stuff in there (almost to the point where I couldn't pick the thing up) and after i strapped it on I was amazed at how little pressure was put on my back and how light the thing felt. The only two things I would have to say is I just wish it was a bit bigger because the camera bag on the inside takes up almost two thirds of the bag. I'm also afraid to put my laptop behind the camera bag because the two metal poles that push inward towards the inside that help support the thing. But aside from those two things I can't complain all too much. But for $ it's probably one of the best things I've ever got for that price. Even got the $ it is regularly it's still a great backpack.

The included camera bag is a tad small, providing enough space for a camera, extra lens and maybe a flash. The bag is extremely well constructed. I've used the bag at sportscar races and hiking and it has been a comfortable bag to wear.

This backpack is great for carrying a compact video system to hard to get places. Equipment within is easy to get at. I've used it for a week video shoot traveling by air and on the hiking trail. I've been looking for a pack to carry-on video equipment as I do not want to check it. I carry 2 small HD cameras with xlr shotguns, Sony wireless 2 mic system, 15" macbook pro w mouse and power, matrox min/max with connectors, voice recorder, waterproof card case, EV hand mic, camera batteries and chargers, AA batteries and charger, assortment of connectors and cables, hand grip (like a mini stabilizer), one change of clothes, and trail food for the airport waits. Yes, the computer fits but it is not in a separate pouch but the larger area. The padded container holds a lot of equipment if you are creative. The pack is well build and is replacing the 10+ year old Lowe pack I've been using. Harness and padded belt are comfortable. Perfect size for carry-on and no one knows the videostudio inside. Other equipment is checked or not taken. When not working I remove camera container and carry what is needed for a family on the mountain trail.

This backpack has more features than you'd believe. Though it's marketed as a way to carry cameras, I can see it will be useful for much more than that. It rides nice and high on your back and the straps holding it in place go across your chest rather than your waist -- that's much more comfortable, especially with all the adjustments to length you can make. Some of the straps and fasteners, however, are intricate enough that it can take a few minutes to figure out how they work and what they're for. Some of the snaps for the straps are very tight and take some effort to open, but then, I wouldn't want a strap coming undone while I'm hiking. The smaller bag to be carried inside the pack is touted as a camera bag, but I can see using it for other items as well. I do wish there were more little zippered pouches both inside and out, but then I simply cannot have enough of those. I'm not sure how accessible everything inside will be while I'm wearing the pack, but I do like that you can access the interior both from the top and from the bottom.

Comments about Lowepro Rover Pro 35L AW Backpack (Galaxy Blue with Light Gray Trim):

The backpack sits right over the hips-distributes weight evenly without the sense of a medium size gear bag pulling down on shoulders. The camera box is great. I pack my telephoto 100-400 lens in its own case inside the main bag. Holds a good sized tripod easily as well as, many long day-hike miscellaneous items. It easily slips off to access gear for shots that would otherwise get away. The colors are just dark enough to stay sharp looking after a day in the woods.
Fully packed it still fits into the overhead storage compartment on an airliner. Have received several inquiries and positive comments! Would highly recommend!

This was a replacement of a less specialized bag, but also helps for when I actually am camping. The form fits really well, and having the option of the hydration bladder is nice.

As for the actual camera compartment, I can fit a 70-200 f4IS, a 60D body, and a 5D with 24-105 inside, including the hoods. Other pouches in the removable bit are plenty of room for batteries and cards. It's right around half of the inner volume. As a kit bag, I can fit the above, plus a whole audio bag (recorder, shotgun mic, lavs, and assorted cables). Tripods go on the side and are held quite well.

As for the camping side, it keeps a small-ish tent underneath the bottom, and has holsters for trekking poles. If you're wanting a several days pack, you'll want something bigger. This will keep you overnight or maybe a weekend.
