The RM222 Riggy-Micro Dual-XLR Preamplifier with Phantom Power by juicedLink is designed for cameras which already have audio meters, manual gain control, and a headphone output. The RM222 features efficient operation, small size, and a lightweight design for mounting flexibility. It can even be mounted in the hot-shoe on top of your camera.

The RM222 features 2 locking XLR inputs with low-noise microphone preamplifiers. Each channel includes a Mic/Line level switch, a Hi/Lo gain switch, and a Phantom power switch. The onboard Phantom power voltage is selectable between 48V/12V. The inputs can also be summed mono, copying each input to both sides. The right channel can be completely powered down to conserve battery power if not needed.

When engaged, the Audio Output Bracketing feature of the RM222 ensures that your audio inputs won't clip or distort. By placing the RM222's performance in mono and enabling the 16dB pad on the right channel, you end up with two signals with identical content, yet the right is recorded 16dB lower. This way if a sudden loud noise or a boomy portion of audio is recorded, you'll have a backup track with headroom in case the 0dB output clips.

The RM222 Riggy-Micro uses a 9V battery. High capacity lithium-polymer rechargeable batteries can be used as well as alkaline. The low-battery indicator can be switched between alkaline or lithium-polymer threshold, so you can use either chemistry without leaving unnecessary capacity in the battery.

Comments about juicedLink RM222 Riggy-Micro Dual-XLR Preamplifier with Phantom Power:

I loved these juicedLink XLR adaptors for SLRs. Their line of products cater to all your needs for the best value. I used this with my Panasonic GH4 and it is great quality. They have other models with 3 XLR inputs and ones with audio monitoring levels, but I didn't need that, I just needed 2 XLRs and phantom power. It is $1,000 cheaper than the GH4+Interface combo. You don't need to buy the GH4 interface unless you need to record high-quality 4k on an external recorder. If you buy the GH4 interface, you need an external recorder and you need a power source for it that doesn't come with it.

The only bad side to this, is that it is small and not designed perfectly. The GH4 interface fits the GH4 perfectly and is extremely sturdy. Bottom line, it provides great quality audio, works with the GH4 like a charm, and is a great value buy!

        Tripod screw too offset

Comments about juicedLink RM222 Riggy-Micro Dual-XLR Preamplifier with Phantom Power:

The riggy is well put together and I'm happy with the audio quality, but the actual shape of the thing makes it extremely awkward to use. The worst aspect, in my mind, is that the tripod screw is set on the very edge of the unit. If you mount it on the bottom of your camera and want to use a tripod, the whole thing winds up being wobbly and tilts to one side. It makes any camera I've used it with (D800, D5300, GH3) far more awkward. If it was just shaped a little different it'd be much more useable.

My general impression is that a lot of thought went into the electronics side of things and no where near enough into making it nice to use as part of a system.

I returned this item when I found that my D600 had some noise even with the juiced link. I'm sure this is a great device otherwise.

Great addition to DSLR video rig. Glad I got the model with phantom power. Way more audio control than with camera alone. Low noise recording. Compact enough to shoot and manage audio at the same time. The recessed switches look a bit flimsy, but the housing is solid.

I've been starting to expand into mini docos with my Canon 5d mkiii but the audio just wasn't up to scratch. After doing a fair bit of research I decided to give the Riggy micro a go. It pairs up great with the camera and the quality of the sound is a world of difference. If you're looking for a big upgrade without the price this is a good option. Just remember you need to have metering on your camera to get the full use out of this version.

I use this with my Panasonic gh3.
I've done a few shoots with it now and it works great!!! I had to mount it on top of my rig though. it's made to mount between the camera and base plate but with only 1 screw to hold it, it will not stay tight on a tripod.
it's small, and has everything you need via switches on the bottom to make your dslr audio experience as much like a real video camera as possible.
