The 4TB TB WD RE SATA 3.5" Hard Drive from WD is a powerful combination of enterprise-class performance and high capacity required for superior performance computing and business critical environments. The hard drive delivers transfer rates of up to 6 Gbps and high random I/O rates. It is coupled with a dual processor, which provides twice the processing power to maximize performance.

The WD RE SATA Hard Drive's enhanced RAFF technology monitors the drive and corrects both linear and rotational vibration in real-time. It thus provides optimum performance even in high vibration environments. It features a head positioning system with two actuators which improves positional accuracy over the data track(s). The featured motor shaft on both ends minimizes the system-induced vibration and stabilizes platters. This enables accurate tracking of read and write operations. The multi-axis shock sensor feature automatically detects the subtlest shock events allowing you to protect the data.

The WD RE SATA Hard Drive's Time-Limited Error Recovery (TLER) feature prevents drive fall-out caused by the extended hard drive error-recovery processes. The NoTouch ramp load technology ensures that the recording head never touches the disk media. This allows significantly less wear to the recording head and media as well as enhanced drive protection in transit. Thermal cycling guarantees that each drive is tested by an extended burn-in for reliable operation.

Dynamic fly height technology enables each read-write head's fly height to be adjusted in real-time for optimum reliability. With 64 MB cache, the WD RE SATA Hard Drive ensures faster data transactions. It is ideal for use in servers, video surveillance and other demanding write-intensive applications.

High Performance for Business Critical Applications
The hard drive delivers transfer rates of up to 6 Gbps and high random I/O rates.
Designed for Quality and Reliability
The WD RE SATA Hard Drive, with a field-tested 1.2 million hours MTBF delivers the highest level of reliability. It also provides advanced level of reliability for 24x7 operation in up to 100% duty cycle applications.
Dual Processor
The hard drive features a dual processor, which provides twice the processing power to maximize performance.
Vibration Protection

Comments about 4TB TB WD RE SATA 3.5" Hard Drive:

I've been using Western Digital enterprise-class drives in various RAID arrays, for many years. I'm currently running five WD 4TB Re WD4000FYYZ drives in R5 on a Synology DS1813+; four WD 2TB RE4-GP WD2002FYPS drives in R5 and four WD 300GB VelociRaptors WD3000HFLS in R0, in external enclosures. The latter eight drives have been spinning, non-stop for well over five years. The only problem encountered was the failure of one VelociRaptor (full backups preserved the data). This drive failed within two weeks of the end of the five-year warranty. Yet, Western Digital replaced it very quickly and without question.

Best compromise between storage capacity and price and reliability

Until SSDs get this big and are this cheap, HD's are the way to go for secondary and nearline storage needs. WD enterprise drives are usable in normal desktops and are backed up by a 5 year warranty.

Comments about 4TB TB WD RE SATA 3.5" Hard Drive:

I purchased now 4 of these drives for use in an Adaptec 71605 16-port hardware RAID card. These work excellent in the array. While I can't say for sure whether the WD black drives are superior and more reliable than this one, these have TLER, where the black drives won't let you set that at all and that can be problematic in RAID arrays using dedicated hardware cards.

Arguably though, I wouldn't say this is a better drive to use in a non-RAID array than the black, because of the TLER. You buy this drive for a specific purpose, and the price premium over the black reflects it.

Also B&H consistently has properly packaged the drive. Unlike some other vendors who simply throw these in a box haphazardly with those dreaded air bags. An HDD rattling around in improper packaging, is a sure way to receive a drive that is either DOA, or will be dead soon. They have on the 4 occasions have offered the best price to boot.

Through the years, I've concluded that WD seems to make the most reliable drives compared to the other vendor that starts with an 'S' and ends in 'gate'.

Comments about 4TB TB WD RE SATA 3.5" Hard Drive:

                  B&H packaging is PERFECT.

It arrives partitioned as MBR (Master Boot Record)
Windows 8 will only see 2TB unless you convert it to a GPT (GUID Partition Table)
I use AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard Edition it is Free and will make the change for you easily.

I have the SanDisk Ultra Plus Solid State Drive with SATA Revision 3.0 Interface for Notebook (256GB) for my OS (Windows 8.1 and Applications) and use this 4TB WD Drive for all my files, Photos, Videos, and Incremental Backups of my C: Drive.

I can't speak to Pros or Cons at this point as it is my First Enterprise-Class Hard Drive ever.
So far it is doing Great.

Comments about 4TB TB WD RE SATA 3.5" Hard Drive:

I could only afford one of these for this order. When my budget opens up I'll get 7 more and plug them into a nas or san. This is the nicest drive I've ever had. I have 5 other drives on the desk storing older files, I think they're wd green or blue. But every so often they buzz and click in a funny way. Makes me nervous about them. This new one exhibits no scary characteristics.
