The black Bataflae 26L Backpack from Gura Gear is a large pack for carrying a studio load of photo gear. Its capacity is extreme. It can accommodate your pro DSLR with or without grip, a 400mm f/2.8 attached and a 500mm f/4 with hood reversed as well as many other lenses in its fully adjustable interior using the touch fastened dividers. The 26L can also hold a medium format camera system or video camera bodies.

The unique facet of this pack is Gura's butterfly access system. These flaps come in handy when you don't want or can't open the entire pack-especially in crowded venues. They fold open in the middle exposing the interior without opening the entire bag. However, if you prefer to open the pack completely, pinch the buttons and the butterfly flaps release for a traditional opening.

Storage space is not a problem for the 26L. Expandable exterior mesh accessory pockets are matched by multiple interior mesh pockets. The front also has two full length pockets for even more accessories and even larger items such as your jacket. One of these pockets can be used for ID, tickets and passport. The pack makes use of traditional M.O.L.L.E. (Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment) side attachment points that contain side hooks for attaching extra pouches or gear. Your tripod can be attached at various points on the pack to suit your preference. A water bottle pocket will help keep you hydrated while traveling. For ultimate security, the main compartment is lockable using a user-supplied lock.

The harness system is stowaway in design and contains a removable waist belt. A top grab handle is for quick access moments. The handles are all riveted for strength. The zippers are color coded for enhanced organizational purposes and can be readily used while wearing gloves. The shoulder straps contain extra strong buckles. The pack is made from a combination of nylon, polyurethane and mesh. The zippers are all YKK.

For inclement weather, a rain cover is included that doubles as a ground cloth while pursuing location work. When the pack is not being used, place it inside the included dust bag that will keep it clean and fresh. The pack comes with Gura Gear's ultimate warranty for the workmanship that goes into this pack.

Comments about Bataflae 26L Backpack (Black):

I've had this bag for just over a month and two trips so far. It carries all the gear that I need but the zippers are very stiff and hard to pull when opening/closing. The other issue is the tripod straps, lost one because it loosened up and fell off in the overhead bin. The ones they sell on their site have clips added to avoid this issue, too bad they don't come these modified ones. I used some Velcro to secure the remaining strap. I have contacted Gura Gear in reference to the zipper issue and will update this post accordingly.

Comments about Bataflae 26L Backpack (Black):

The 26L holds a remarkable amount in a small profile bag that tends not to attract a lot of attention at the gate to the plane. Inside mine:
Nikon D800 (detached from any lenses)
          D300 (detached from any lenses)
          200-400 f/4
          70-200 f/2.8
          17-55 f/2.8 DX
          11-16 f/2.8 DX
          2 slim external drives
          SB-800 flash
          Some misc small items

The bag is beautifully made. It achieves its large capacity and small size in part through minimal padding, but there are endless configurations possible with the very ample dividers it comes with.

Should fit in virtually all overhead bins even on small planes. If not, it is small enough to fit under a seat.

Comments about Bataflae 26L Backpack (Black):

I'm going to preface all of this with the fact that the relationship between a photographer and their camera bag is very personal. The best bag for one person can be the worst bag for someone else. For me, I've been fighting with backpacks for a long time now. After years of searching, I never really found a backpack that I liked. They were too big, too small, or too poorly made. This bag, however, is the backpack for me.

I'll say that this bag is great for hauling around a light to large amount of gear, perfect for backpacking and hiking, and extremely well made... but like any backpack rapid access to your gear is not very rapid at all. The split design does help compared to other backpacks, but compared to things like slings or waist bags this is not fast. Then again, unlike waists and slings, this holds a great deal more.

Here's what I have in my bag right now:
            Left Half of Main Chamber
            - 70-200 f/2.8 II
            - 180mm f/3.5 Macro
            - 17-40 f/4
            - 85 f/1.2 II

            Right Half
            - 5D Mark III w/ grip and L-plate
            - 8 extra batteries LP-E6
            - Blackrapid RS-7 w/ Arca-type connector
            - LP-E6 dual charger w/ cord
            - Standard battery recharger w/ cord
            - X-rite color passport
            - 2 pelican memory card cases

            On the side
            - Tripod w/ GV2 ball head

That mostly fills the interior. There's about a few square inches left for something small. With all that, this bag is plenty comfortable to walk around with. In fact, it's unnervingly comfortable. The weight (once you adjust the distribution via the straps properly) just sort of clings to you and sits nicely. There's still plenty of room for little misc things, if you need it. I haven't even begun to do anything with the front pouches.

The bag itself is very very well made. The quality is a dream. This thing is meant to be used and abused (not that you should). It's incredibly sturdy and has a lot of thought that was put into it. The one issue with this bag is that the size can mislead you into thinking you should bring a whole bunch of gear you don't need. Less gear gives you more freedom to shoot, so with that said I wouldn't consider this a daypack but more for taking out on a hike or trip where you won't be returning to home base that evening. You could use it as a daypack, but there will be a good bit of extra space inside it (unless it has been filled with low density items like clothing).

If you can handle the price and are looking to try a very high-end backpack bag, give this thing a shot! I highly suggest you take a look at this in person, just like any bag.

Comments about Bataflae 26L Backpack (Gray):

I bought this specifically for carrying a 500 f/4 and the gear didn't disappoint. It was roomy and also allowed me to take two DX bodies and other sundries. I liked that they offered the gear in grey, a different color for a change from the traditional black bags. The materials are well done and the "butterfly" openings are a terrific idea. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 Star rating, is that the harness was lacking a little padding, especially around the shoulders. I am used to the Kata PL 220 bag, which has rubberized padding on the harness. Add this and you have a 5 Star Plus!

Since purchase, I've toted this great bag everywhere...and haven't been disappointed yet! Lots of dividers to customize lens and body compartments, handy carry of tripod on side or centered on back, comfortable and easily stowed shoulder/waist straps, room for EVERYTHING! Thought I'd need the 32L bag, but the 26L carries two FF Canon bodies, 6 lenses, filters, memory cards, and everything that I need for a given shoot. Worth every penny! Being able to access everything with the full flap down or selectively go into either the left or right side is terrific!

I used this first for a 6 day photo shoot traveling internationally. It is a great bag with an incredible amount of storage. A full size iPad WILL FIT in the outer right or left flap (it's tight but it will work) which is a huge plus. The pack is comfortable even for the significant amount of gear it can hold. The tripod connection is smooth as well. Very durable. I think a full size outer pocket that could accommodate a MBP or MBAir would be great, but not at the cost of additional bulk. This bag is built to last.

the bag is well designed and does as it states..but ultimately the bag was too heavy for me when i loaded it with my gear and i ended up returning it. Also, there was no good way to keep the cam and lens connected and store it in the bag efficiently..the salesman explained to me that the bag was better as a means to transport the gear...and then assemble the body lens combo you want. That said, the workmanship, the zippers, the pocket space were all excellent...but i needed a smaller bag.I should also add that without any gear in it I was surprised as to how light it was..

Great bag with great features - capable of holding more than I anticipated even after reviewing photos and reviews... For an upcoming trip to Norway it easy holds two Canon bodies (5D) with L-lenses and hoods: 100-400 and 28-105 and 17-40. All this fits comfortably on ONE SIDE of the bag. I'll now use the other side for carrying my girlfriend's point-and-shoot and other gear - chargers for everything, etc... Durable and fairly comfortable (tough to tell comfort right out of the box so to speak until wearing it in a bit). Overall - great bag as everyone else attests to!

Comments about Bataflae 26L Backpack (Black):

Nicely made product - lots of room and options to store camera and lenses. I am able carry a D800 along with 4 lenses including the Nikon 200-400 lense all being very accessible. Backback is still not too heavy to carry even when loaded with equipment. Good quality and met expectations.

Comments about Bataflae 26L Backpack (Black):

Like many of you, I seem to be collecting a lot of photo bags/backpacks. It seems that each situation calls for a different pack. I have a great f-stop backpack for hauling stuff on long, overnight trips. However, I can't seem to work quickly out of that pack with my gear assembled for an easy grab-and-go. When hiking several miles, I don't need that option. But I have a safari coming up this summer and will be working out of a vehicle - in fact, I tend to be doing this in several US National Parks.

I actually ordered both the 26L and the 32L Bataflaes by accident, and ended up keeping the 32L based on my gear. But both are excellent, the 32L just being about 3" taller.

I use these bags for hauling pro dSLR bodies with longer lenses attached. On one side, the 32L will hold a Nikon D4 with 300mm f/2.8 attached AND with the lens hood extended in shooting position. The 26L will hold the same configuration, but with the hood reversed in storage configuration. On the other side of the bag, both will hold my D800 with 70-200mm VRII, and then have space for another lens (24-70mm f/2.8).

They come with a lot of various configurable, Velcro pads. So you could haul a ton of gear, but I really liked the ability to work out of both sides of the bag with my gear assembled, and with long lenses.

The construction is top notch. Right up there with my Kata and f-stop bags. the Kata bags do have that hard ballistic covering, which the bataflae does not have, but the 420D nylon material is pretty durable and weather resistant. Zippers are solid. Lots of good (I mean actually useable) pockets on the outside and inside to store batteries, microfiber cloths, memory cards, anything.

What surprised me is that these bags also function as very comfortable backpacks. that may sound stupid, but I was expecting only a so-so fit and really bought the bag for transporting gear - like hauling a lot of gear on an airplane. I think I will enjoy using this as a serious backpack as well - but I need to get more hours in that use before I can confirm. So far, very comfortable and decent engineering.

Last - tech support or customer support is awesome. I had an extremely helpful conversation via online chat feature with their support staff late one night when their phone support was closed.

One of my favorite go-to bags, if not my most used bag these days.
