The D600 Digital Camera with 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S ED VR Lens Kit from Nikon features a full-frame 24.3MP FX-format CMOS sensor in a compact body and a wide angle to telephoto zoom lens that covers almost all shooting situations. With the full-sized sensor also comes a powerful engine; the EXPEED 3 processing system enables features such as 5.5 fps continuous shooting at full resolution. Compact as it is, the D600 still provides a 3.2" LCD monitor.
The AF-S 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens included with the D600 camera body is a zoom lens that can capture everything from wide-angle to ultra telephoto, allowing the photographer to shoot to their heart's content from day one. It features a 9-blade rounded diaphragm, three aspherical lens elements, two extra-low dispersion ED elements, Nikon's exclusive Silent Wave Motor, Vibration Reduction (VR II) image stabilization system and fast, quiet internal focusing. This lens kit also includes a DSLR/Laptop bag and a Class 10 32GB SDHC Memory Card.
The D600 camera body has features that allow the camera to stretch for the photographer's needs. Such features include a wide ISO range of 100-6400, expandable to 50-25600. This allows shots to be captured in a variety of lighting situations, from low-light to bright, with minimal image noise. The camera also has 39 focus points for wide-area AF coverage in both still and HD video capture.
Other ways that the D600 enables the photographer to focus on the job at hand include Nikon's well-known metering and onboard intelligence. The camera uses the company's intelligent Scene Recognition System with 3D Color Matrix Metering II for beautiful, high-definition images. This metering takes into account brightness, contrast, subject distance, and the scene colors for accurate, balanced photos. The i-TTL flash, auto white balance, subject tracking, and fast autofocus are all assets of the D600.
The D600 is an HDSLR, featuring 1080p HD video capture. Selectable frame rates include 30/25/24p at the highest resolution and 30/25/24p at 720p. Other useful features at the photographer's disposal for shooting movies include manual exposure control, full-time AF with face-priority, dedicated inputs for a stereo mic and headphones, and Simultaneous Live View.
The Nikon D600 is compatible with F-mount NIKKOR interchangeable lenses (both FX and DX-format), giving the photographer a wealth of options. Additionally, the camera can be used with Nikon's WU-1b Wireless Mobile Adapter for wireless transfer of images to a smartphone or tablet. The adapter can even be used for remotely capturing images with the D600 using the compatible app.
FX and DX Format
Optimized for edge to edge sharpness on both FX and DX-format D-SLRs. DX-format D-SLR angle of view is equivalent to a focal length of 42-450mm in FX/35mm format.
Three Aspherical Lens Elements
This is another unique Nikon innovation, which virtually eliminates coma and other types of aberration, further improving image integrity
Two Extra-low Dispersion (ED) Element
Two ED element offers superior sharpness and color correction by effectively minimizing chromatic aberration - even at the widest aperture settings.
Nikon Super Integrated Coating (SIC)
Nikon's Super Integrated Coating enhances light transmission and offers superior color consistency and reduced flare.
M/A (Manual/Auto) Focus Mode Switch
This NIKKOR lens features a focusing mode which allows switching from automatic to manual focusing with virtually no lag time by simply turning the focusing ring on the lens.
Exclusive Nikon Silent Wave Motor (SWM)
A significant innovation in AF lens technology, Nikon's Silent Wave Motor uses ultrasonic (inaudible) vibrations-rather than a gear system-to focus the lens, providing incredibly smooth, silent and precise autofocus operation
Close Focus
With a close range focus, you'll be able to focus to 18" (45.7 cm) at every focal length.
Nikon VR II (Vibration Reduction) Image Stabilization
Nikon VR II(Vibration Reduction) Image Stabilization, which is tailored to each lens, enables handheld shooting at up to four shutter speeds slower than would otherwise be possible for dramatically sharper images and HD videos - even in low light
Internal Focusing
All internal optical movement is limited to the interior of the non-extending lens barrel, which allows for a more compact, lightweight construction - as well as a closer focusing distance
Rounded 9-Blade Diaphragm
The rounded 9-blade diaphragm renders a beautiful, natural background blur (Bokeh) at its wider aperture settings.

I am a professional portrait photographer. My main camera is a Nikon D3s. I have needed a second backup camera for some time and felt my biz was at great risk if something ever happened with my D3s. I wanted a full frame camera and video capabilities but was not wanted to spend the $$ to get a D4. I was seriously considering the D800 but was concerned about the large file sizes and the space they would take up on my computer. So, when Nikon announced the D600, it was the perfect match for me. I also had been looking at getting the 28-300mm lens as an all purpose lens and one I could take when traveling so that I didn't have to lug around all my lenses. I was concerned though by the variable aperture of 3.5-5.6. I was afraid it would perform too much like a kit lens and I would not be happy with the quality or sharpness. All of my favorite lenses are fixed apertures ranging from 1.4 to 2.8. I have been playing with this camera and lens combo since it arrived and couldn't be happier. Recently I rigged up this combo and also rigged up my D3s. I was expecting to use the D3s for most of my portrait session and just use the D600 for a few shots when needed. I ended up shooting the whole session with the D600. I was so pleased with the performance of the camera and lens! The lens is sharp through out the entire focal range and the high ISO capabilities of the D600 ensured that the aperture of the lens was not a problem. I did have a bit of a learning curve on a few of the buttons that were slightly different from my D3s, but the learning cure was short. I can see already that this is gong to be the perfect travel camera and lens for me as well. I am very impressed with the sharpness and megapixels of the camera. Although the battery lasted just fine for my session, I have ordered the battery pack as well. Really pleased with this purchase. It is a great primary camera, travel camera, video, and backup too. Can't go wrong with this one!

The Nikon D600 and 28-300 zoom lens was a great combo which I used for a week. I immediately found the upper left field on the sensor had spots, which was being reported by many people and stores on the Web. Since a permanent fix was not available through Nikon, and it recurs after cleaning, it seemed unacceptable to send in a camera monthly for cleaning (despite a year warranty). I thus returned it and decided to buy a Canon EOS 6D with the packaged 24-105 zoom lens, and added the 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens. This cost me more money then the Nikon package but neccesary to get the same focal range. I can't comment on the Canon yet.

Comments about Nikon D600 Digital SLR Camera with 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S ED VR Zoom Lens Kit:
Great camera but as most of the reviews I have read state, it does suffer from oil spatter on its sensor. I noticed it after the very first shot I took. Image quality is amazing though, and I have read that after about 3000 shots or so the oil problem is completely gone. I can deal with a few sensor cleanings. The camera has a great feel and feels familiar since I own a D7000 as well. I have only had the camera a week and already feel as if I have been using it for years. The 28-300 is very convenient and although it isn't a fast lens it is quite sharp. Overall I am very pleased with the purchase.

Great camera, but I got a lemon as the lens autofocus episodically doesn't work (and not just when there's a busy background) and the aperture reading reads 0. Has caused several missed shots. Requesting a replacement. Otherwise the camera takes gorgeous shots.

I upgraded from the D5100, which I loved. I was skeptical about upgrading due to some of the professional reviews the D600 was getting.(sensor spotting) I am so glad I did upgrade and I decided to get this lens along with it instead of just the body. Another wise decision on my part. If you are trying to decide as I was, go for it! You won't be sorry. You will love how easy it is go from the menu driven type cameras to the more professional D600. Trust me you will just love it. I shoot manual and love that I can make setting changes so fast. The lens is really sharp and taking photos at higher ISOs is just plain awesome. Even in very poor indoor lighting, shooting hand held at 1/15, f5.6 ISO 1000, the photos were sharp and very little shadow noise. I had to enlarge beyond 11x14 to even see the noise. So,if you are on the fence in making a decision.....go for it, you won't be sorry you did. Oh and so far I have not seen any spotting but I bought a cleaning kit just in case. They are a good thing to have for any camera. Used it on my 5100 which had never been cleaned. So there you go, if you are worried about the spotting, buy a cleaning kit. Don't let that worry stop you from buying this camera, you may never even see any spotting.

there is no question that the camera and less are excellent, but the value comes with the very large camera bag and the 32Gb memory card. Very nice package, if you are interested in the 28-300mm zoom, which by the way, works very nice.

I loved this camera for the picture quality except for the spots in the pictures that came from internal debris on the sensor. I have been wanting a full frame DSLR for a while and was so excited when I found the D600. I really hated to return the camera (tried 2 different ones) but I can't deal with something new that has a flaw.

I am a not a professional photographer and use this only for family photographs. I've been using older DSLRs for years, but this is such a monumental improvement over prior cameras, its almost overwhelming. I recommend anyone who is not a pro and buys this camera should also buy the dummy's guide to using the camera - it's a quick tutorial in all of the basic, and more advanced features. I haven't yet found anything I don't like about the camera. The only downside to the Package Deal is the camera bag - it's ridiculously bulky, and I've just stored it away and will never use it.

I can't comment on the Canon yet.

there is no question that the camera and less are excellent, but the value comes with the very large camera bag and the 32Gb memory card.

My Nikon D600 has been a treasure to use. It is a big upgrade from my Nikon D200.
It is new enough to me that I cannot elaborate on details yet. Sorry.

Not being professional astute to easily master the D800 but wanting to step up to FX format, this is an excellent camera. When coupled with the 28-300 mm lens the whole camera is rather heavy. So I turned around and bought tghe 24-86 mm the folowing week (from B&H)
