Questions? Ask our experts:

The Lightscoop Deluxe is designed to bounce the light from a DSLR's pop-up flash for a more natural, indirect flash look. The mounting bracket slides under the open flash and attaches to the camera's hot shoe. The angle of the mirror can adjusted horizontally and vertically, to bounce light off the ceiling or walls. When not in use, the Lightscoop can be folded flat for more convenient transport and storage. The Lightscoop Deluxe is compatible with most DSLRs.

Interchangeable mirrors are available in standard (neutral), gold, red, blue and green. A gold mirror can make for attractive portraits. The red, blue, or green mirrors can create fun color effects. This model includes the standard (neutral) mirror only.

Note: Current Sony models are not compatible with Lightscoop Deluxe. Sony DSLRs require Lightscoop Original. When in doubt, please reference the Lightscoop website for an up to date list of compatible cameras.

After experimenting and taking several shots and having the right distance between me and the walls around, the results improved dramatically! I never expected the built-in flash to come in handy and have such drastic effect when photographing indoors. It did improve alot the lightning on the subject and provide a very nice background around it (unlike the harsh light of the popup flash when used directly on the subject, or trying to get a good indoor picture without using the flash).Overall I am liking it so far, it can give very good results in low light situations, Of course not as good as the high end expensive external flashes, but for its price and portability it is very good. For people whom can't afford to shed a lot of money on professional external flashes, OR for someone who would like to travel light and avoid carrying heavy equipment all the time, the Lightscoop Deluxe is the answer for that.

I purchased this to be able to bounce the pop up flash on my Nikon D200.The idea is good but the product is not. The materials used are of poor quality. Though the listing says it pivots both vertically and horizontally it does not as the pop up flash prohibits the pivoting movement. The only thing that I can say that I was happy about was that I was able to get the hot shoe adaptor out of the hot shoe without it breaking in the hot shoe. The manufacturer recommends just leaving it in the hot shoe for a reason! Also, the cost to replace the adaptors for the hot shoe are [$] each. That is half the price of the item itself. The cost for these adaptors should be no more than $.50 cents. All it is is a small piece of plastic the size of your finger nail with no moving parts. You will end up spending more money for these adaptors which will inevitably have to be replaced numerous times. It is going back to B&H

After some manual setup of the camera and a couple of experimental shots, I am set for a more natural looking indoor image. No flash highlights or red-eye. Limits shadows and produces a pleasing color. The device folds flat and is small enough to fit in my smaller camera bag. I use on a Nikon D7100.

Instead of buying a [$] external flash for my Canon 60D, I bought this. Very useful for indoors. My only concern is that the "stick" that connects the mirror and the hotshoe is a little short.

There could be some minor changes in build - that would give it 5th star. Overall very good!

          Comments about Lightscoop Deluxe:

It does what its supposed to do, but there can be no variation from its required optimal environment settings. I tried this out at a Carrabba's restaraunt recently and the pictures did not come out good. The bounced light off the mirror has no fill effect whatsoever. If there isn't a white wall to bounce the light off of exactly "x" amount of feet above where you are taking the picture, then there may as well be no flash at all because the pictures are completely dark in low light.I give it 3 stars though because it still will do the job if the conditions are right. This isn't as versatile as I'd hoped it would be.

            Comments about Lightscoop Deluxe:

two design flaws: 1) as mentioned by another review, the plastic fitting the hot shoe is way too tight and would need to be filled down (in which case you may lose the warranty, I suspect). 2) The arm between the hot shoe and the mirror is way too short. Because of that, the arm barely enters the hot shoe piece and is unstable.
My item had a 3rd issue, the plastic foil was cut and the mirror scratched, but that's not so important.
The mirror is attached to the arm by using magnets. They hold decently well, but with such design you don't want the magnets to be too strong and sitting close to the shutter mechanism. I guess the magnets are safe.
Since one pays the shipping both ways, after returning the item you will lose a third of the cost, quite a bad deal.

            Comments about Lightscoop Deluxe:

The unit is small and folds flat. Convenient for travel. Following the manufacturers instructions gives pleasing lighting, much better than pop-up flash alone. The plastic that fits the Nikon D600 shoe is extremely tight. Too tight for easy on and off, hence only 4 stars. Had to file down edges to have it fit comfortably in hot shoe.
