The 27" iMac Desktop Computer from Apple is an all-in-one desktop computer with an ultra-slim unibody design. Measuring at just 5mm at its edges, the iMac has 40% less volume than its predecessor. The body of the iMac isn't the only thing that got thinner. The LCD display is now 5mm thinner, and Apple also removed a 2mm gap between the LCD panel and the glass to save even more space.
The 27" widescreen display features LED backlighting for vibrant, accurate color. With in-plane switching (IPS) technology, the iMac has a wide 178° viewing angle. The screen has a 16:9 aspect ratio and Full HD 2560 x 1440 native resolution, supported by an nVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M graphics card with 512MB discrete GDDR5 memory.
Just because it's thinner doesn't mean the iMac sacrifices performance. The iMac features a quad-core Ivy Bridge 2.9GHz Intel Core i5 processor. The processor can also be overclocked up to 3.6GHz, thanks to Intel Turbo Boost 2.0 technology. The system also has 8GB of 1600MHz DDR3 RAM, a 1TB 7200rpm hard drive, 10/100/1000Mbps Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, a 720p FaceTime HD camera, dual microphones and built-in stereo speakers.
For ports, the iMac has dual Thunderbolt ports (which also double as Mini DisplayPorts) and four USB 3.0 ports. You'll be able to connect with various compatible components. If you would rather go wireless with your peripherals, you can use Bluetooth 4.0 technology where compatible.
Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion comes preinstalled on the iMac. Mountain Lion introduces a host of new features, such as Contacts, Calendar, Reminders, Notification Center and more. Mountain Lion seamlessly integrates with your other Apple devices, such as the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch using iCloud. Just sign into iCloud with your Apple ID and you'll instantly have access to all your settings, files, photos, music and more.
Also included with Mountain Lion is iLife. iLife has a complete suite of digital creativity applications. Easy enough for anyone to use, iLife will help you edit your home movies, organize digital photos, and compose original music. The system is also powerful enough to run Apple's professional-level applications, perfect for those who are ready to move up to the next level of creative software.

This is the second iMac I have bought for my wife. The previous one was the original Intel iMac that was purchased in Jan 2005. Never had so much as a hiccup out of that one. It was almost never turned off the entire time. So she used it for eight years and we sold it on [*] making our TCO for that time about $100 per year. And the PeeCee folks say Macs are too expensive. We only replaced it because all of the new Adobe software is 64-bit. Besides being a work of art, or sculpture if you like, it is blazingly fast, totally quiet and has an absolutely beautiful display. If this one is half as good as the last one I will be tickled pink.

I ordered this 27" Mac with all top specs except ram, I ordered 8 Gig and upgraded myself with crucial 32 Gig memory $600 savings. OK desktop ! Not great one ! If some one who was PC user it will be some inconvinience for sure, I can tell you that some of Windows features not bad at all compare to apple OS for example file/folder management is better on PC, try to chose and send pictures on Mac and you will remember PC how easier and make sense that process was. Design is not without flaws as wellI can't justify how people at Apple could put CD card reader behind the the monitor, how that suppose to be convinient I don't know, not to mentioned you have to buy DVD drive separately (3k desktop ?!) that is an Apple value I guess. I have this machine for couple weeks or so I did experience several instances when system had stalled for no apparent reason. Overall I would not buy or recommend this computer to my friend. Overpriced overhyped product in pretty package that is all it is.

Comments about Apple 27" iMac Desktop Computer:
I use the iMac to edit video. It is a lot faster than my old mid 2010 iMac. With all the upgrades that Apple did to this new model; 2 Thunderbolts, 4 USB 3's Faster family processors and low reflective monitor, the ability to use it as a display, not to mention the great design, it is worth the upgrade. I really recommend upgrading the RAM to at least 16GB to get the benefit of the speed. Downside, I would think is the optical drive, at the beginning, but since I needed to upgrade as well to Blu-ray, is no big deal. Overall a fantastic machine, worth every penny.

The best thing I like about this machine the awesome display. The machine is fast..I had a doubt if by not having the fusion drive make the machine slower...but for my use so far (without use of any heavy weight apps that stresses the disk a lot) the machine is fast...faster than my macbook pro...guess the desktop grade processors are very good performing when compared to power gated laptop processors.

I went from an early 2009 iMac to the new 2012 iMac base model. Major upgrade!! Boots up faster, apps work faster, graphics are better for games!! So if you're iMac is more than 2 years old this is a really good upgrade!! Display looks great!!! The only downside that I have is the lack of optical drive which I knew going in but minor issue for the upgrade this computer gave me.
