The Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC Macro OS HSM Lens and EF610 DG ST Flash Kit for Pentax from B&H Photo is a lens/flash kit offering two superb products for your Pentax K camera. The lens is a versatile wide-angle to telephoto zoom macro lens providing the focal lengths to shoot in almost all situations, including a minimum focus distance of 13.8" (35 cm) for close-up macro photography.

Optical Stabilization (OS) provides compensation for camera movement and delivers clear, blur-free images when shooting telephoto and in low light. A Special Low Dispersion Glass element and three aspherical elements, including one double-sided aspherical lens, reduce chromatic aberration and provide sharp imaging throughout the zoom range. Super Multi-layer Lens Coating reduces flare and ghosting and an included petal-type lens hood will deflect unwanted light from entering the lens. A Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) allows for smooth and silent autofocus which is particularly desirable when shooting video with your DSLR.

At 3.5" (8.9 cm) long, it is a very compact lens for its wide focal range and Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) construction and a brass mount offer durability and consistent functionality in varying temperatures and situations.

The Sigma EF610 DG ST Flash for Pentax is a hot-shoe mount flash unit with TTL automatic flash exposure and an auto zoom function that adjusts the flash angle based on the chosen focal length of the lens (from 24-105mm). A built-in wide panel extends the flash angle to 17mm for wide-angle shooting. Manual control is also available to control the flash power from full to 1/16 power. The Guide Number for the EF610 is 61 m at ISO 100 and 105mm.

The flash head can be tilted up 90º and down 7º and swivelled 90º to the right and 180º to the left for flexible bounce control.

I am a semi-pro who owns both Nikon and Pentax equipment. I prefer the Pentax (2 of them) outdoors because they are smaller and lighter. Anyway, I bought this lens for the Pentaxes after reading the reviews of the equivalent Pentax lens (18-270). The Sigma was slightly better rated and it was almost $300 cheaper. As any "super zoom" would go, it is a little soft at both ends, but if you want extreme sharpness all over you get a "prime" lens instead. Super zooms are intended as "walk about" or travel lenses where one wants to carry only one lens or not take the time to change lenses. That said, this lens was sharper than I expected, except at the extremes, and very well built. The autofocus is of the latest most advanced type (silent) and works great. I matched it against the Pentax 18-135 lens I already had and it was close in sharpness but the Pentax lens beat it in contrast and color. These were maximun resolution pictures at 100% enlargement, something you don't normally do. So yes, I am very pleased with the lens and now I can carry two Pentax cameras with different lenses without having to change them. Incidentally, I use a K-5 and a K-10, and occasionally do film in a XZ-L. I do mostly landscapes and fitness models, mosty all outdoors, so the "slowness" of super zooms does not affect me much as I live in South Florida. Hope this helps!

When considering the 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC Macro HSM by Sigma you think that you are getting a decent telephoto with a macro edge. In reality, this lens falls below expectations and, if you are like me, you will find it left in your kit more often than not.

This lens looks decent on paper for the cost, and feels like a solid lens in your hand. That is where the pros end though. From the second you unlock the lock switch the lens will consistently creep and slip out of your distance range. Don't even try to point this lens down without a firm grip. Furthermore, the focus distance on paper seems like a stretch in both directions. At the closest ranges you find it hard to get a crisp enough focus without backing off an additional meter. At the furthest distances you notice a lot of chromatic distortion/aberration.

This lens has a very good mid-range macro and can be utilized for some amazing points, but overall I would recommend picking up the Pentax smc Pentax-D FA 100mm f/2.8 WR Macro Lens instead.

Very sharp for a super zoom. You can't go wrong with this lens.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC Macro HSM for Pentax K Cameras:

I was looking for an everyday lens, I looked at the Pentax 18-270mm but at 589.00 I felt this was a better deal, also offering Macro. I have a Sigma 10-20 wide angle and that has been a great lens. I'm very satisfied with this lens and highly recommend it.

Great lens for travel and casual events. Quiet and fast focusing in any light on my Pentax K5iis. I have not experienced any zoom creep in the few weeks I've owned it, it has a lock if I need it. Macro works well. It's not as sharp as my 17-50 Sigma lens or any prime so don't expect that, but it takes good quality pictures fast at any distance, so you don't miss anything. Point, zoom, shoot, enjoy your vacation.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC Macro HSM for Pentax K Cameras:

I am a new camera operator so this review is strictly based on my experience with the lens and camera. I am using the lens with my new K500 Pentax camera. I purchased the lens to get close up photos of my twin daughters in the Marching Band. If I'm in the stands I still don't get very close images. This past weekend they were at a competition and I had to get to the fence along the track in order to get close enough to distinguish between my girls and the other students in the band. Because of my lack of experience with quality cameras and lenses maybe this one isn't the best lens to get those super close ups that I'm looking for. I did tell the representative when I was ordering what I wanted and this is what he recommended based on my price point. I'm getting quality photos just not as close as I would like.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC Macro HSM for Pentax K Cameras:

As a recent Pentax convert, I have only a K-50 body and two kit lenses. I quickly bought a Sigma 70-300 solely for it's longer reach. It was a little too much of the same kit stuff, plus quite bulky, so I returned. Now then, onto the 18-250; convenience and quality all in one neat package. Gives me a tiny bit more reach, quiet, fast focus PLUS macro that functions like a real macro lens. I take my new camera everywhere now. Sigma's first big test was a professional bicycle race in Montreal. I carried it for 9 hours around my neck without any complaints. A handy little lock button keeps barrel creep in check, great when running and walking for the next shot. In terms of photo quality, I came away very pleased. Image quality is as good or better than the kit glass. Bicycles going 40 MPH plus are no problem for this rugged little lens!

This is a well-built all-purpose lens. No zoom creep which is nice. I've been very happy with the pictures coming out of it.

Provides a large zoom range but it is a slow lens so its not ideal for indoors unless you have a flash.

This is my second Sigma lens. This model for me is only an upgrade from my first one which was similar---but I thought that it was easy to work and for me it produced great pictures. Admittedly I just purchased the newer model and have not used it too much. However comes this Saturday I intend to go to the Botanical Gardens in Chicago and would probably have a better answer on Saturday night. I like Sigma as they are surely no worse then the name brands ut they are much less expensive---that is in addition to the high quality picture taking.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC Macro HSM for Pentax K Cameras:

My husband bought this lens for me as part of my first DSLR kit. This lens is very versatil and it does well the job it intends to do. Naturally it is not a professional quality lens, but it is a great walkaround lens. The center sharpness is quite good actually and the borders are okish. The middel barrel tube wobbles quite a bit but other than that the built quality is ok. The auto focus is silent, but no very fast. And of course the price is bargain (as it is was gift).

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC Macro HSM for Pentax K Cameras:

Generally I love Sigma lens in terms of IQ and picture quality so overall this is a nice lens, just give a bit over exposure under some critical light situation. Very sharp from 8 to 11 and work perfectly well on 250mm zoom.
I just wanted to have all in one lens so I bought it and I must say that it was not bad decision at all. I love this lens and it is a great lens in all aspects though a bit slow on AF in low light but that is the common problem with almost zoom lens. AF motor is very quite and almost silent when zooming in or out.
I will defiantly buy more product from Sigma!
Service from B&H was amazingly fast indeed and I do appreciate it of couse.

...and it takes pretty good photos too.I got this as a "walk around and take it with me" lens for when I don't have the opportunity to pack my prime lenses or my more costly Pentax zoom.I gave the lens its first major test yesterday and it came through pretty well. The minor issues were probably more to do with the unsteady photographer (on a moving boat, so some focal issues) and the conditions (super bright on the water, so some fringing in the dark areas). I probably wouldn't have noticed if I weren't examining the shots in Lightroom. So far, though, I'm pleased with the quality and versatility of the len and I was able to purchase it for about $. I consider myself an enthusiastic amateur. This lens will tide me over until I can afford the Pentax *60-250.

This is a great lens when you don't want to carry many different lenses with you. There are faster and sharper lenses, but not with this range. And I find the lens remarkably sharp. I use a Pentax K5,which has image stabilization built in. That undoubtedly helps me get sharp images. This is not a low-light lens, especially at 250 because the max aperature there is 6.3. But for general use, I am very impressed.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC Macro HSM for Pentax K Cameras:

As my headline says, this is a nice lens. It is well constructed, focuses very fast, is nearly silent, and takes great pictures. However, when I compared it to my Pentax DA 55-300 lens I found that if I set the shutter speed and aperture the same on both lenses and let the camera choose ISO, the Sigma always had a higher ISO, thus more noise in the photo. If I set everything identical in manual, then the Sigma lens was always noticeably darker. The other thing I noticed was that even though the Sigma says it zooms to 250mm I noticed that at the same focal distance the Pentax was much closer, in fact 250mm on the Sigma was about the same as 135mm on the Pentax. For these reasons I returned the Sigma. However, if you don't mind a somewhat over-stated telephoto range of 250mm, and you need the flexibility of the 18mm wide angle, then I think you will be very happy with this lens.

I bought this as an all round lens - mainly for traveling with. It is perfect and reduces the number of lenses that needs to be packed! Build quality is very good and the performance is also very good considering the large interval and the relatively small size!
