The Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC Macro OS HSM Lens and EF610 DG ST Flash Kit for Sony from B&H Photo is a lens/flash kit offering two superb products for your Sony Alpha camera. The lens is a versatile wide-angle to telephoto zoom macro lens providing the focal lengths to shoot in almost all situations, including a minimum focus distance of 13.8" (35 cm) for close-up macro photography.

Optical Stabilization (OS) provides compensation for camera movement and delivers clear, blur-free images when shooting telephoto and in low light. A Special Low Dispersion Glass element and three aspherical elements, including one double-sided aspherical lens, reduce chromatic aberration and provide sharp imaging throughout the zoom range. Super Multi-layer Lens Coating reduces flare and ghosting and an included petal-type lens hood will deflect unwanted light from entering the lens. A Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) allows for smooth and silent autofocus which is particularly desirable when shooting video with your DSLR.

At 3.5" (8.9 cm) long, it is a very compact lens for its wide focal range and Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) construction and a brass mount offer durability and consistent functionality in varying temperatures and situations.

The Sigma EF610 DG ST Flash for Sony is a hot-shoe mount flash unit with TTL automatic flash exposure and an auto zoom function that adjusts the flash angle based on the chosen focal length of the lens (from 24-105mm). A built-in wide panel extends the flash angle to 17mm for wide-angle shooting. Manual control is also available to control the flash power from full to 1/16 power. The Guide Number for the EF610 is 61 m at ISO 100 and 105mm.

The flash head can be tilted up 90º and down 7º and swivelled 90º to the right and 180º to the left for flexible bounce control.

Use at museums, events and outdoor lanscapes. I have even used it for Diorama work. Love the versatility, and wide angle. Ion a 1.5 crop factor camera ( my Sony a58) it really works well. I am sure I will get it dialed in even more as time goes by. I still have not found its "sweet spot", as its been a pretty stable all around performer. Pic below is JUST as taken, NO post profuction, and its indoors, on a Very large object.

I bought this product to make it easier to take photos of theatrical productions I am hired to photograph. Instead of constantly changing lenses I wanted one I could get a full stage and a close ups with. Here are some things I noticed:

*The extreme ends of near or far are often blurry with this lens, while the middle is pretty consistent.
*Natural light is alot easier to photograph with this lens than artificial light. I had never had this problem with another lens.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC Macro HSM for Sony Alpha Cameras:

Had a Sony 18250 for 3 years, it malfunctioned, so I purchased the Sigma, saved $ over the Sony, lens focus is fast, gave it 4 stars, because it is a tad less sharp, compared to the Sony, but with the price difference, I could live with that.

    Fantasic for the price!

    By Grizz

    from Conifer, CO

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC Macro HSM for Sony Alpha Cameras:

I purchased this lens (6 months ago) for my A77 for when I am not using another specific lens. And now it seems to being doing it all.
It compares to my G series for telephotos, and it is incredible on macro shots. And everything in between is excellent.
A pleasant surprise at the price! All the great features of the A77 are still great with the Sigma; including the panorama feature. The only issue I have is the lens lock and lens creep. It only locks when retracted and the lens isn't very tight when telescoping. When doing macro shots in a downward direction the lens creeps big time. I solved the problem by placing a wide rubber band across the lens to hold the position. A simple solution for a small problem on a great lens. A must have when the camera is beside you on the seat of your vehicle ready at a moments notice.

      My new travel partner!

      By Lisa Holland

      from Windermere, FL

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC Macro HSM for Sony Alpha Cameras:

I love my a77, however, I don't love lugging it plus two to three lenses around on vacation. Last year I left it home and took my Canon G15 instead. The G15 did a good job, but, I kept wishing I had my Sony with me. The good news is, thanks to the Sigma 18-250, my a77 is my travel partner once again. (I did a dry run at Epcot and couldn't have been happier.)

I have the stock 18-70 and a 70-300 and always found myself needing around 30-150 and was constantly changing lenses. This lens definitely fixed that problem. The lens focuses extremely fast on the center point, even in low light. Other cross-type focal points were fairly reliable as well (more of a camera thing than a lens thing, but...). The focus motor is very quiet compared to my other lenses which will make this a winner for the wedding I have to shoot later this summer. One weird thing, the zoom is backward compared to my other lenses, but you get used to it.

This is about as good as it gets for a swiss army knife lens. Good Macro, Good Bokeh, Good focus tracking ( on both A77 and A99, and with the sony flash system it works well indoors as well. For $[$]you cannot beat it.

Got a beautiful Sony camera for Christmas - going to Africa in March and needed a telescopic lens. After much research and opinions from those who know - this lens is what I chose and I love it. I am very much a beginner and the heft, balance and automatic settings are perfect for me. I've only had it a week, but the pictures I took at Niagara Falls are perfect!

I am not a professional photographer but having a lens capable of capturing close up, macro, wide angle, low light, and anything else I could throw at it all incredibly well makes my hobby a lot more enjoyable! Only issue when pointing down lens tends to zoom on its own. Just gotta keep two hands on it when shooting at a downward angle.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC Macro HSM for Sony Alpha Cameras:

I bought this for my Sony A65 as a general, all purpose lens to keep on the camera for family photos, and anytime I want to have a camera handy but not carry any extra lenses. It serves that purpose nicely, and after taking a few test shots, I'm happy to report it fits my needs perfectly.

Fast focusing and sharp pictures from 18 to 250 mm.
I used it with my SONY A 37 to make landscape pictures.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC Macro HSM for Sony Alpha Cameras:

Sigma's 18-250mm f3.5 lens replaces both the standard lens that came with the Sony a58 DSLR recently purchased as well as the optional 75-300 f4.0 lens that was part of the package. The beauty of this lens is its' permanence (no changing lenses to cover the focal length ranges I need). I'm a photographer for our local newspaper, the Desoto Times Tribune, and occasionally find myself at sports events where 'reach' is necessary since I'm either on the sidelines or the action is taking place in the distance (golf tournaments, etc.). The Sigma 18-250 has proven itself the ideal lens in these cases. It is small enough and light enough to handle easily, has the speed range useful enough and quality to match the high megapixels of the a58 (20-meg). Even at extremes (250mm at f5.6) the lens performs very well and the results are impressive. I highly recommend the Sigma 18-250 f3.5 to anyone looking for an "all purpose" lens.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC Macro HSM for Sony Alpha Cameras:

This lens allowed me to stop switching lens. I use it to shoot concerts, and it works great in low light situations. It replaces two Sony lens, 18mm to 55mm and 55mm to 200mm. It is a perfect all in one walk around lens. I have been using it for about two weeks and cant find a thing to complain about. I reccomend this to anyone that wants a really good walk around lens.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC Macro HSM for Sony Alpha Cameras:

As far as compromise lenses go, this one is pretty good. Needs to be stopped down a stop for best sharpness, but offers a good all around package if traveling light.
