Comments about Harbor Digital Design XT Flash Extender Kit for Canon 600EX RT Speedlights:

This is my second flash extender by HDD. I bought one some time ago for my Canon 580EX2. It worked well enough that I bought another one now that I've upgraded my flash to the Canon 600EX-RT.

I use this primarily to get some extra reach when I want some fill flash while shooting motocross in the day time. It's not perfect and takes some practice to get the results you're after. But, for me, gives me that little something extra that I don't have to add/fix in photoshop.

Comments about Harbor Digital Design XT Flash Extender Kit for Canon 600EX RT Speedlights:

I bought this as an alternative to the Visual Echoes Better Beamer which I also own. The big plusses for the Harbor Digital XT FEK are that it's more snug on the flash and the beam is consistently centered without any testing or fiddling like on the Better Beamer. I experimentally verified the instructions which said the best (longest, most consistent) pattern is achieved by zooming the flash between 30 and 70mm. There are two downsides to the XT compared to the Better Beamer. The obvious one is bulk. The XT is a big (but light) chunk of plastic to pack in your kit. For me, it's absolutely worth it over the Better Beamer which nicely folds completely flat. Now for the worst part of the XT: the shroud that slides over the 600EX-RT does not slide nicely over the rubber sides of the 600EX-RT head. It bites into them in a nasty way and is very hard to slide on. Not wanting to scratch up the sides of my 600EX-RT, I cut large groves in the plastic where the XT slides over the rubber strips on the sides of the 600EX-RT. Voila - the XT slides on much easier (but still very snug) and no damage to the rubber sides of my 600EX-RT. This last point dropped me from 5 stars to 3 stars. I did the vertical cutting with a hobby saw and used an exacto knife to cut horizontally, then just snapped the plastic square out on each side. I then used the exacto knife to clean up the cut out section. If the XT shipped this way I'd give it 5 stars.
