Comments about LaCie 120GB Rugged USB 3.0 / Thunderbolt SSD:

Was looking for a portable hard drive for photography when I travel. This one is great and durable. The transfer speed is wonderful, so when I have to transfer a SD card full of pictures it took no time at all. Love that.

Comments about LaCie 120GB Rugged USB 3.0 / Thunderbolt SSD:

I cannot speak for the SansDisk SSD that came in this enclosure, considering I replaced it with a Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SSD. I can, however, attest that it functions great.

I do not advise doing this unless you care not about your warranty with LaCie, but for me, it was a must.

As an enclosure, it does works very well. There are instances where my system will say the disk was ejected improperly (OS X Mavericks), but that could be an issue with the OS and not the enclosure. In any event, I've experienced no data loss by result.

It runs a little warm, but that is to be expect.

Comments about LaCie 120GB Rugged USB 3.0 / Thunderbolt SSD:

Externally this is a typical LaCie rugged with the comforting rubber shell. Internally it is an incredibly fast SSD. I tested it with video and write speeds exceed 180MBps with read speeds twice that fast.

I did not really care about the software it came with but a huge bonus of this drive is that it comes with a thunderbolt cable in addition to the USB 3 cable. I use it with a Blackmagic Ultrastudio Mini which is thunderbolt only but doesn't come with a cable so buying this drive saved me the ridiculous cost of that one cable.

It is more expensive than a spinning drive but the speed and included cables make it worth it.
