The black Technical Pro UREC7 Professional Rack Mountable USB/SD Recording Deck is a recording device built to capture professional audio and also play it back at a high level of quality. Record your DJ set, studio session or singer, a religious sermon, or a board meeting or conference with this recording deck.

Plug in your USB flash drive SD card of up to 32GB and record straight onto it. This will give you approximately 136 hours of recording time at 64 kb/s. If you need to record a long meeting or a series of meetings, you can put them all onto one USB flash drive. This unit allows you to record without the need to worry about any time limits as with CDs and tape recordings. Just hit record and you’re all set!

The UREC7 Recording Deck is also a playback device. By using the same USB flash drive or SD card, you will be able to playback your music and recordings. Input your recording device by using the RCA or 1/8” (AUX) inputs. This will allow you to easily transfer music to devices such as instruments, and DJ mixers, CD players, or cassette decks. The output consists of a stereo RCA to plug this unit into your sound system’s audio input and playback your recordings in stereo.

The front panel of this unit hosts all user controls. They are all easily accessible and user friendly. The controls consist of playback / pause, stop, next track, and previous track. Organize your USB flash drive or SD card from the unit’s front panel interface; no need to jump back and forth from a computer! Use the bass and treble and bass knobs to fine tune the sound output. Complete with a headphone output and removable rack mounts, this professional recording and playback device can be integrated into any studio or showroom or mobile rig.

The UREC7 unit also allows you to play your recording in either repeat or random playback. The unit is also equipped with a remote allowing you playback from or record onto a USB flash drive or SD card from a distance. The built-in equalizer has 4 different settings, allowing you to choose the most suitable sound for your audio.

Comments about Technical Pro UREC7 Professional Rack Mountable USB/SD Recording Deck (Black):

I have this installed in a church for recording services. With my modifications, I consider it fine for recording preaching, but because of the high data compression rates and medeochre A/D conversion, it's only barely adequate for recording music, that is, for a musician's reference recording, but not a master recording for distribution.

I haven't tried using it for playback.

The price is very low, so I consider it a good bargain, but at this price you get what you pay for. Don't expect this to be a full-featured piece of audiophile studio equipment.

The recording system has a very heavy automatic gain control that makes for recordings that are loud and weird sounding, with no dynamic range. The AGC has a 1 second recovery time, and a target volume of -3dBfs.

I was able to defeat the AGC by using a 220Kohm series resistor on each channel, and for most applications, I recommend you do the same. This forces the AGC to run at maximum gain, which effectively disables it. You can build a cable with the resistor in it, but I made the modification internally so that there would be no opportunity to lose the customized wire.

The input circuit is a voltage divider 4.7K/10K, so the 220K ohm provides about -24dB of additional attenuation. It will still kick in as you approach clipping level, so as a bonus it make for an appropriate soft clip. With the resistor it calibrates to having 0VU unbalanced consumer levels at about -10dBfs.

Comments about Technical Pro UREC7 Professional Rack Mountable USB/SD Recording Deck (Black):

My task was to set up a system for a house of worship that could record the sermons and events quickly and with ease. The system needed to be user friendly and could be operated by anyone!First I used a DAW and record directlty to a laptop from the USB Output of my mixer. every time before services someone needed to go into the sound booth and boot up the computer then save the program... yada yada. The Priest wanted something simpler to use! Behold a simpler device that even a Priest can operate!!I introduce the TP UREC-7 USB/SD Audio Media Recorder! Just like my dad's cassette deck, push record/play and away you go! push stop or pause to tag the next track. Now the Priest can take out the thumb drive (or SD Card) and attach the file to the weekly Church email blast. I would reccomend this to anyone looking for a simple stand alone recording device for portable memory. It is what it is!Thanks B&H!

Comments about Technical Pro UREC7 Professional Rack Mountable USB/SD Recording Deck (Black):

As a player the Urec7 is okay, it sounds very good when playing .wav files and .mp3 files. The only complaint I have is it seems to shuffle about the same 5 or so songs over and over again even if the USB or SD disk has hundreds of songs on them. Also, there doesn't seem to be a way to choose what folder of songs to play, just the option of advancing through songs forwards or backwards 1 or 10 at a time. I do like the remote, it does what is asked of it.

As a recorder the Urec7 is not very good. It records at 64 kbps .mp3 and not the advertised 128kbps or 44.1 .wav and unlike other stand alone USB or SD recorders I've come accross, when recording LP's or something you want to advanced the track number it doesn't seem to do that without stopping it like other recorders I've come accross has done without stopping or pausing the recording.
The manual is not very informative just gives the obvious information and as of this review I have sent 3 emails to the company through their website about functions and feature not found in the manual and I have yet to get any response from them. I don't think I'll be buying products from this company anymore if this is the kind of support they give which seems to be non so far.

It felt like I just replaced the cassette player with the recordable CD player. I thought I was up to date until I learned about this great thumb drive or SD card recorder / player. I can record for up to 20 hours with one 8GB card!

The user interface for this unit is pretty terrible. There are only 5 buttons and most features require the remote to work. The sound quality of the recording was terrible. If I turned up the signal going into the unit it would clip and sound bad, and turning it down just created a lot of noise. There was also audible digital clicks in the recording. Do not buy!
