The Ultimate M1-L With RD16 II Rotator Panoramic Head from Nodal Ninja is a specially designed tripod head with a second-generation RD16 II rotator for producing spherical 180 x 360° panoramic photographs. This precision camera support lets you seamlessly stitch panoramas free of parallax using templates, while simplifying the post-processing workflow that usually comes with stitching images. A movable index ring allows you to rotate the index ring to any predetermined position quickly and easily. There's also a blue marker ring which can be rotated to mark points on the lower rotator. The upper rotator has 7.5° positive stops. This system supports lenses up to a 200mm focal length attached to any DSLR, or most medium format cameras. It provides solid support for cameras and lenses up to 22 lb.

Precision CNC-machined T6061 aluminum alloy parts and lubricated bearings provide precision, smooth rotation and click stops, as well as decreased wear over time. The RD16 II has 16 selectable increments of rotation, and you can also mount your camera in either horizontal or vertical orientation.

Combining anodized aluminum parts with a lubricated internal ball bearing design, the RD16 II also provides the very precise, fluid rotation required of professional photographers. You can change click stops on-the-fly, which is ideal in time-sensitive situations, such as shooting high resolution multi-image mosaics, or shooting the same scene at different focal lengths. An Arca-style quick release clamp and two camera plates with different depths and 1/4"-20 screw offsets to accommodate different cameras.

For 360 x 180° Spherical & HDR Panoramas
With precisely machined components, laser engraved markings and lubricated bearings you can capture full spherical panoramas both quickly and accurately
62mm Diameter/Nadir Footprint
Its 62mm diameter provides sufficient precision and stability while keeping the nadir footprint small
Max Weight Supported: 22 lb

Movable Index Ring & Rotating Blue Marker Ring
Easily rotate the index ring to any predetermined position for quick adjustments, and the blue marker ring can be rotated to mark points on the lower rotator

Comments about Nodal Ninja Ultimate M1-L With RD16 II Rotator Panoramic Head:

This thing is solid. if you're using a DSLR to create panos then you need a tripod head that won't budge unless you want it to. With the Nodal Ninja you're paying for that quality engineering. The Swiss Arca system is simple and effective and you will find an assortment of accessories for your needs.I am using the Nodal Ninja for creating 360 panoramas to be used in virtual tours. Put it on a sturdy heavy tripod and you will get the precision required to minimize stitching errors and correction time. Don't forget to order an adapter that fits your specific camera. It comes in a nice quality case, doesn't fit perfectly inside but it looks & feels good!

Comments about Nodal Ninja Ultimate M1-L With RD16 II Rotator Panoramic Head:

This is an awesome addition. Finally, you can shoot panos in rows with any lens. The click stops are poorly explained in the "documentation" but once figured out, is a snap. Click, click, click. I easily produced a vertical set pano 10 across in 3 rows. Using AutoPan (not PS), I produced a flawless pano with a 70 mm lens thus reducing barrel and lens distortion. Highly recommended. Highly crafted.Just beware that the "documentation" is non-existant. A sad commementary on a developing trend. "Just look it up." If you dig deep enough there are some good references.

Comments about Nodal Ninja Ultimate M1-L With RD16 II Rotator Panoramic Head:

I use this with the Nikon D800E and the Nikon 14-24mm F2.8 G lens. I also have the MB-D12 Battery Grip. This is one of Nodal Ninja's top of the line Pano kits and is a must if you are shooting with large lens. The kit does come with a lot of spare parts, but I consider this a good thing. If you follow the guides on Nodal Ninja's website it is pretty straight forward to setup. You can also call or email them. They are very helpful if you get stuck. For this setup I needed the following to shoot landscape with my rig and get a full 360.

Comments about Nodal Ninja Ultimate M1-L With RD16 II Rotator Panoramic Head:

I read such positive reviews of Nodal Ninja that I decided to make a purchase. And I decided to get their top-of-the line model. I feel I made a mistake with this purchase and, if given another chance, I would by a different model.

                  1. Mine came with a bag filled with all kinds of nuts, screws and washers. Directions were included describing how to assemble the whole thing. But the directions referenced specific kinds of nuts and screws, but didn't provide a diagram showing what they look like. I struggled for a couple hours and then wrote to Nodal Ninja. They quickly replied, saying that my unit was already fully assembled, thus I could disregard the directions and the bag of hardware. That was frustrating!

                  2. While they provided the assembly instructions that were not needed, there were no other instructions. Zero. Nothing told how to use it, or how to mount the camera. It was totally lacking in documentation. I checked the NN website and found that the other models all came with great documentation, but this one had nothing. I had to figure it out by trial and error.

                  3. I don't like the use of the Swiss Arca mounts. Twice I thought my camera was mounted and it fell off. Sometimes the mount seems like it's locked into place, but in fact it is not actually into one of the grooves, and then bad things happen.

                  4. On other models the camera can slide forward or backward on the top rail. But on this one the camera mounts to the very end of the rail and then the entire rail moves forward or back. But when I put on 8mm fisheye lens on my camera that rail sticks way into the image because it is much longer that needed. Instead of being able to take just 4 photos I have to take 6 because I can't use the image where that darn rail sticks into the photo. The system they use on other models, where the camera slide forward on the rail, seems like it would be far better.

Overall I think they were trying to make a top-of the line unit, but they must have realized somewhere along the line that this one is not it. I do not recommend purchasing this.
