Often it is necessary or desirable to balance the light intensity in one part of a scene with another. This is especially true in situations where you don't have total light control, as in bright contrasty landscapes. Sometimes it is also desireable to add color to part of the photograph. For example, to add blue to only the sky. Lee Grad Color filters are part clear and part color. They are available in grades of 1 through 5, with 5 having the darkest color.

Lee graduated color filters are available with soft or hard transitions from dark to clear. The soft edge is recommended for wide angle lenses and the hard edge is recommended for normal and longer lenses.

Lee graduated resin filters are 4 x 6" (100 x 150mm) x 2mm thick. The 6" length allows for adjustment of the filter within the holder.

Comments about LEE Filters 4x6" Graduated Magenta 3 Resin filter - Soft Edge:

I use this filter to add beautiful color to skies during dusk and evening shooting. The difference, versus not using a filter, is the difference between a ho-hum sky to one that pops. It enhances the colors and contrast in everything I have shot with it. The soft edge allows me to place the color precisely where I want it to begin, and the progressive intensity of the magenta color on the filter allows me to choose how much color is used. I've even used it when shooting a water fountain in the city to get beautiful, colored cotton-candy water during intense frontlight from the sun.
