I originally ordered the TDK A33 in August 2013, when it was on backorder in many places, however I canceled the order after 20 days of waiting, and bought a Bose Mini instead. I, and all others, have been amazed of the bass, clarity, and undistorted high volume the Bose mini has. How does that sound come out of that small speaker? A lot of "WOW" factor. I also own a Soundfreaq Soundkick, which I caught on sale 20% off. The Soundkick has excellent clarity, midrange, and treble. It also has very good bass, but not as much as the Bose, which is much smaller. I have no regrets buying either, and have been using both over the last year. Sometimes the Bose has too much bass if used in a small room, but the following tip will help solve most of that issue. As with all speakers, placing them in a corner, or against wall, will enhance the bass, and away from all walls will decrease the bass. Bass potential is definitely desirable outside where there are no walls to reflect off, and makes most small speakers sounding worse than inside a house. For more than a year I have been reading Bluetooth speaker reviews, consumer and professional, from many sources. I also occasionally listen to numerous speakers in local stores. I find reading reviews and "the search" as much fun as the acquisition. I kept an eye on the price of many Bluetooth speakers, including the TDK A33. My concern was so many people loved it, while quite a few complain about poor Bluetooth connection, and poor battery life. I have seen the price of the TDK vary quite a bit. About a month ago it dropped again, so I decided to take a chance and buy one. I am so glad I did! At lower volumes the Bose has more bass, but as I mentioned, sometimes too much, depending on speaker placement and song type, however, from mid volume and up I like the TDK as much or more than the Bose mini. The TDK has a LOT of bass at mid volume and higher, and seems to have a more balanced sound with better mids and treble than the Bose, or at least a larger/wider soundstage field to hear those frequencies. Bass is much less directional, so it makes little difference if you are not directly in front of speakers to hear it. The TDK definitely can play quite a bit louder than the Bose, and without distortion. Although the Soundfreaq Soundkick sounds excellent and loud when plugged in, it is the only one of the three that drops in volume and bass response when run on batteries alone. Don't get me wrong, it still sounds very good on battery power, but better plugged in. All 3 of these speakers have better overall quality sound than the JBL Flip(1 or 2), JBL Charge, UE mini boom, small or mini Jambox. I am also very impressed listening to the Sony SRSX5. When plugged in to A.C., it has 20 watts of power with great bass, treble, and midrange and competes with the Bose mini and the TDK A33. It is 5 watts X 2 plus a 10 watt subwoofer(20 watts total) when plugged in, but drops to 1 watt X 2 plus 6 watts for the subwoofer(8 watts total), plus I believe the battery is built in. I also own a Soundfreaq Sound platform 2, which I got at an incredible price of more than 40% off the normal full price. It is much larger than any of these others, but is still "portable", but not something you would want to pack to take on an airplane. It has excellent clarity, and is much louder than any of these others above (TDK comes the closest), since it has 40 watts of power. I bought the optional battery, and am happy to report that it does not drop in volume at all, unlike the Soundkick. The Sound platform2 has a FM tuner, which is unique among Bluetooth speakers. All speakers(Bluetooth and full size as well) have a given volume range they sound the best, and the TDK sounds best at mid to higher volume, compared to the Bose which sounds very good at any volume, including low volume. The TDK will fill a back yard with a pool with very loud, clear excellent sound more so than the Bose. I am wondering with the mixed reviews of the TDK, if there is a quality control issue??? I have had nothing but the best of results in regards Bluetooth connection and battery life. The TDK ALWAYS connects via Bluetooth quickly for me with both my Nexus 7 (generation 1) and Nexus 7 (generation 2), has excellent range, and NEVER drops. Reading reviews, it almost seems the bluetooth connection issues are with people that own Apple products. I don't own Apple products, and never have in the past either. Battery life has been at least as long as advertised. Now for the thing that most people don't think about, that is VERY important. They worry about how many hours a speaker will play on a fully charged battery, whether 6 hr, 12 hr, or more, before needing recharging, which is important, but the more important factor in the long run is almost all Bluetooth speakers have a built in battery that cannot be changed 4 or 5 years down the road after hundreds of recharges, and will no longer take a charge. It is very sad to spend 100 or 200 dollars on a Bluetooth speaker that becomes useless, because its battery cannot be changed, or only by defacing and damaging the speaker. The battery is easily replaced in the TDK A33 and the Bose mini. JBL Charge, JBL Flip, UE Boom, and others may be able to be taken apart unofficially, but it won't be easy, and will most likely damage the cover. Even if successfully taken apart with no damage, I have never seen any literature stating a replacement battery of the proper size and shape is available to purchase, so throw it away and buy a new speaker. So although it is disappointing that NiMH batteries are used in the TDK, at least it can be changed very easily and replaced with one from TDK, or as seen on YouTube, almost anyone can make a new battery pack by buying 6 commonly found AA size NiMH batteries purchased in many possible places. Nobody had mentioned it in the many reviews, but I would think that by placing 6 lithium ion 14500 batteries in series and parallel in the proper way, a battery upgrade is very much possible for the TDK if desired. The Bose mini uses an easily replaced lithium ion battery, so no issue there. I am not sure about the Soundfreaq Soundkick, as it appears to be built in. Either way, any of these 3 speakers have excellent sound, and are excellent choices. I have no regrets in buying the TDK A33, and highly recommend it. Based on my experience with the TDK, for the purchase price of 57% of the Bose mini I bought it for, incredible sound, and reliability, I consider the TDK a bargain.

this is probably the best bang for your buck period. it rivals all the highest quality speakers on the market. the only other one i liked was the sony btx300. however the bluetooth would get clicking sounds and static after 5 mins on my Macbook pro retina. This wasnt from WIFI interference either. turing off wifi did nothing. perhaps i got a bad unit but i have read of others having this issue also. which is too bad...its a fantastic deal otherwise

Comments about TDK A33 Wireless Weatherproof Speaker:

This speaker sounds amazing. It's easily loud enough to fill a medium-sized room with sound, and the bass response is very good, especially at higher volumes. Bass can be a little weak at the lower volumes, but that's what the "volume up" button is for, right?

The case feels very sturdy, and the speaker has a surprising amount of weight to it for its size. I wouldn't want to drop it for fear of damaging my floor (that might break the speaker too, but I'd be more worried about whatever it landed on). It's on the large side for a portable speaker, but still pretty compact overall.

It can move around a bit if it's playing at high volume on a smooth surface like a wood floor. I set it up in front of a wall to do a volume test, and a few minutes later it had turned almost 90 degrees away from the wall. Setting it up on something soft or textured might be a good idea if it will be playing for extended periods at high volume.

Plan to use out on the patio. appears to be well made. Sounds good, but had some problems linking with computer Bluetooth, we'll see this spring.

Comments about TDK A33 Wireless Weatherproof Speaker:

This is the first bluetooth speaker I have purchased and I am very happy with it. It gets very loud and is very portable. It is quite a bit bigger than I thought it was going to be so make sure to look at the dimensions before buying. I'm not saying that the size is too big or anything, it just caught me off guard when I opened the box.

Excellent speaker for the price. Connects easily by Bluetooth to my iPhone 4S. Useful in the steamy bathroom, travelling in the car, outside for picnics. Very rugged and solid - seems very well built. Battery seems to last 5-6 hrs when played at half-volume, which is usually loud enough to fill a room. I'd definitely recommend for the price.
