For its size and price, it is difficult to imagine anything sounding better. I was, frankly, a bit disappointed by the small physical size of this when it arrived, as I had never seen it in person until I opened the box. I assumed there would be no way this could possibly produce room filling sound with a satisfyingly full low end.It really outperforms its physical dimensions, offering very good sound reproduction right up to full volume. Full range music with a decent amount of bass results in this small brick moving a seemingly impossible amount of air from its rear-facing passive radiators.I would have expected the splash-proof design to come with sonic tradeoffs, but it doesn't. That makes this ideal for listening to music outdoors by the pool. While I would still be open to something physically larger, louder, and with more bass--understanding that I would be trading off portability, convenient (since most larger products require 8 D batteries, and price)--this is a sonic marvel for its size and price point. It is that much more of a sleeper product, given that I have never thought of owning anything with a TDK brand since pre-compact disc days of audio cassettes. The audio quality and volume is such that it would make a very convenient way to add audio to presentations made on the go.I have not yet tested the microphone that works for speakerphone or audio conference use, so no comment on that.

this is probably the best bang for your buck period. it rivals all the highest quality speakers on the market. the only other one i liked was the sony btx300. however the bluetooth would get clicking sounds and static after 5 mins on my Macbook pro retina. This wasnt from WIFI interference either. turing off wifi did nothing. perhaps i got a bad unit but i have read of others having this issue also. which is too bad...its a fantastic deal otherwise

Comments about TDK A33 Wireless Weatherproof Speaker:

I originally ordered the TDK A33 in August 2013, when it was on backorder in many places, however I canceled the order after 20 days of waiting, and bought a Bose Mini instead. I, and all others, have been amazed of the bass, clarity, and undistorted high volume the Bose mini has. How does that sound come out of that small speaker? A lot of "WOW" factor. I also own a Soundfreaq Soundkick, which I caught on sale 20% off. The Soundkick has excellent clarity, midrange, and treble. It also has very good bass, but not as much as the Bose, which is much smaller. I have no regrets buying either, and have been using both over the last year. Sometimes the Bose has too much bass if used in a small room, but the following tip will help solve most of that issue. As with all speakers, placing them in a corner, or against wall, will enhance the bass, and away from all walls will decrease the bass. Bass potential is definitely desirable outside where there are no walls to reflect off, and makes most small speakers sounding worse than inside a house. For more than a year I have been reading Bluetooth speaker reviews, consumer and professional, from many sources. I also occasionally listen to numerous speakers in local stores. I find reading reviews and "the search" as much fun as the acquisition. I kept an eye on the price of many Bluetooth speakers, including the TDK A33. My concern was so many people loved it, while quite a few complain about poor Bluetooth connection, and poor battery life. I have seen the price of the TDK vary quite a bit. About a month ago it dropped again, so I decided to take a chance and buy one. I am so glad I did! At lower volumes the Bose has more bass, but as I mentioned, sometimes too much, depending on speaker placement and song type, however, from mid volume and up I like the TDK as much or more than the Bose mini. The TDK has a LOT of bass at mid volume and higher, and seems to have a more balanced sound with better mids and treble than the Bose, or at least a larger/wider soundstage field to hear those frequencies. Bass is much less directional, so it makes little difference if you are not directly in front of speakers to hear it. The TDK definitely can play quite a bit louder than the Bose, and without distortion. Although the Soundfreaq Soundkick sounds excellent and loud when plugged in, it is the only one of the three that drops in volume and bass response when run on batteries alone. Don't get me wrong, it still sounds very good on battery power, but better plugged in. All 3 of these speakers have better overall quality sound than the JBL Flip(1 or 2), JBL Charge, UE mini boom, small or mini Jambox. I am also very impressed listening to the Sony SRSX5. When plugged in to A.C., it has 20 watts of power with great bass, treble, and midrange and competes with the Bose mini and the TDK A33. It is 5 watts X 2 plus a 10 watt subwoofer(20 watts total) when plugged in, but drops to 1 watt X 2 plus 6 watts for the subwoofer(8 watts total), plus I believe the battery is built in. I also own a Soundfreaq Sound platform 2, which I got at an incredible price of more than 40% off the normal full price. It is much larger than any of these others, but is still "portable", but not something you would want to pack to take on an airplane. It has excellent clarity, and is much louder than any of these others above (TDK comes the closest), since it has 40 watts of power. I bought the optional battery, and am happy to report that it does not drop in volume at all, unlike the Soundkick. The Sound platform2 has a FM tuner, which is unique among Bluetooth speakers. All speakers(Bluetooth and full size as well) have a given volume range they sound the best, and the TDK sounds best at mid to higher volume, compared to the Bose which sounds very good at any volume, including low volume. The TDK will fill a back yard with a pool with very loud, clear excellent sound more so than the Bose. I am wondering with the mixed reviews of the TDK, if there is a quality control issue??? I have had nothing but the best of results in regards Bluetooth connection and battery life. The TDK ALWAYS connects via Bluetooth quickly for me with both my Nexus 7 (generation 1) and Nexus 7 (generation 2), has excellent range, and NEVER drops. Reading reviews, it almost seems the bluetooth connection issues are with people that own Apple products. I don't own Apple products, and never have in the past either. Battery life has been at least as long as advertised. Now for the thing that most people don't think about, that is VERY important. They worry about how many hours a speaker will play on a fully charged battery, whether 6 hr, 12 hr, or more, before needing recharging, which is important, but the more important factor in the long run is almost all Bluetooth speakers have a built in battery that cannot be changed 4 or 5 years down the road after hundreds of recharges, and will no longer take a charge. It is very sad to spend 100 or 200 dollars on a Bluetooth speaker that becomes useless, because its battery cannot be changed, or only by defacing and damaging the speaker. The battery is easily replaced in the TDK A33 and the Bose mini. JBL Charge, JBL Flip, UE Boom, and others may be able to be taken apart unofficially, but it won't be easy, and will most likely damage the cover. Even if successfully taken apart with no damage, I have never seen any literature stating a replacement battery of the proper size and shape is available to purchase, so throw it away and buy a new speaker. So although it is disappointing that NiMH batteries are used in the TDK, at least it can be changed very easily and replaced with one from TDK, or as seen on YouTube, almost anyone can make a new battery pack by buying 6 commonly found AA size NiMH batteries purchased in many possible places. Nobody had mentioned it in the many reviews, but I would think that by placing 6 lithium ion 14500 batteries in series and parallel in the proper way, a battery upgrade is very much possible for the TDK if desired. The Bose mini uses an easily replaced lithium ion battery, so no issue there. I am not sure about the Soundfreaq Soundkick, as it appears to be built in. Either way, any of these 3 speakers have excellent sound, and are excellent choices. I have no regrets in buying the TDK A33, and highly recommend it. Based on my experience with the TDK, for the purchase price of 57% of the Bose mini I bought it for, incredible sound, and reliability, I consider the TDK a bargain.

This is the first bluetooth speaker I have purchased and I am very happy with it. It gets very loud and is very portable. It is quite a bit bigger than I thought it was going to be so make sure to look at the dimensions before buying. I'm not saying that the size is too big or anything, it just caught me off guard when I opened the box.

Excellent speaker for the price. Connects easily by Bluetooth to my iPhone 4S. Useful in the steamy bathroom, travelling in the car, outside for picnics. Very rugged and solid - seems very well built. Battery seems to last 5-6 hrs when played at half-volume, which is usually loud enough to fill a room. I'd definitely recommend for the price.

After researching and reading other reviews I decided on this unit. fairly priced and weatherproof for outdoor play. Unit sounds great. Nice booming sound. Battery seems to be lasting in 5-6 hrs of use range. connectivity is easy. Happy with purchase and product.
Only cons would be no handle to carry and when cranked at full volume audio is slightly distorted. But never need it that loud as unit has enough power already.

Comments about TDK A33 Wireless Weatherproof Speaker:

I broke a bigger, more expensive speaker system in the stockroom that I work in, by dropping it. I move it quite a bit, so it has to be easy to grab. I like good sound, so it has to be good quality.

This little speaker seems to be just what I need: small, easy to handle, and very good quality audio. It's bluetooth, so my iPod just locates it and it sings. If I need to charge my iPod, I use the USB that comes with it.

Because it's good equipment, the manual recommends a surge protector. One more thing to schlepp around. But I think it will work out just fine.

Also, it's so small it fits easily into a shelf or other small perch. I don't need splash proof... well, I do put my coffee down too.

I took a chance on a brand I'm familiar with but not known to be a leader in portable speaker systems. I own an SL that I love, but my son keeps using it so I needed another portable and I didn't want spend $300 again. The A33 was in my price range and had good reviews on B&H so I ordered it. I like the size and weight. It's hefty for a portable. The construction quality is excellent, also. Connection to my iPhone was easy and fast. Sound quality is great. Nice range of highs and lows. I think it produces highs better than SL which is bass heavy. Biggest challenge is keeping my son from using the A33 which is our favorite speaker now. Definitely recommend.

Comments about TDK A33 Wireless Weatherproof Speaker:

Most of the offerings at the local electronics store didn't sound great & most got poor reviews. After searching B&H.com and sorting by ratings I came across this TDK A33. Since it got rave reviews I decided to buy it. Rarely do you buy a product and receive more than I expected, but I did here. This unit has exceptional sound across all frequencies, especially the low-end. It weighs 2.6 lbs which probably is due to the quality of the speakers. I use this with my iMac, iPad, iPhone, & macbook pro and it works flawlessly. The built in speaker phone works great. The unit is solid, the buttons have a rubberized cover over them and are well laid out. The batteries are user replaceable, but last about 6 hours per charge & supposedly recharges 1000 times. The bottom line is the sound which is incredible. Unfortunately, you aren't likely to find this in a store to hear it before buying, but I'm so glad that I went to B&H and got this instead of settling for the usual, inferior offerings at the local store.

Comments about TDK A33 Wireless Weatherproof Speaker:

Reading its great reviews, I decided to give it a try. I've had it for about 2 weeks now and am extremely pleased with the sound. Great bass and loud at full volume (felt like it filled at least 2 adjoining rooms)! Hard to beat for the price even with the sale price I got it for. I felt it's definitely on par or better than comparable sized name brand speakers.

Can't comment much about the battery charge just yet since I haven't really used it unplugged often....but I think I noticed it last close to 4 hrs at normal listening volume.

On the whole, definitely a superb portable speaker!!

Was on sale and the reviews were good so I thought I would try it. Turns out it was a great buy. A little thump to it, actually sounds pretty good, not like a can. Was working in garage and it sounded great out there. No problems with Bluetooth as of yet. Would recommend it.

If you are looking for a simple bluetooth speaker with decent bass and not a lot of fuss, this is the one. Built in recharging battery lets you just unplug and go whenever and wherever. Easy pairing. Totally comfortable giving this to non-techie types.

Got the JBL Pulse as my son's present for Christmas but when it came to reward myself, I chose the TDK A33. One of the best wireless portable speaker system if not the best. [*] quality, sound... can't beat that. This puppy is going to follow me everywhere: on the patio for barbecue party, in the kitchen, at the pool,... at work. One feature I really like about it, it's waterproof so if I'm outside and it starts pouring, no problem I take care of everything which need immediate attention before I think about it or it can sit on the pool side with no worries...Love it!

Did some research to locate the best wireless bluetooth speaker for a Christmas paddle on the bayou and the TDK A33 came up time and time again with rave reviews.I purchased and was not disappointed. I have used it at a Christmas party and during the paddle. The sound is fantastic, with nice bass coming through. It was quite loud on the water, so much so, that I had to turn it down so I could hear others speaking.

I got this so I could hear teleconferences on my laptop, which has less than optimal speakers. Wow! I am very impressed with the sound quality - far better than I expected. The quality is so good, I will be listening to music and movies as well.
My son, who is a gear-head, is smitten. I am getting a steady stream of hints that this would be the perfect Christmas gift......

I ordered two of these. One stopped working, I think because you have to fully charge it first. The instructions do not say this. The one I fully charged before using works fine. It sounds way better than anything anywhere near it's class. I listened to a lot of them. Would have given it 5 stars if charging had been in instructions. B&H took it back and refunded money no Problem.
