The 3 Legged Thing X2.1 Eddie Evolution 2 CF Tripod System w/AirHed 2 Ball Head (Black) is a stylish and extremely compact travel tripod system, the smallest in 3LT's 29mm Pro range of tripods. With the ball head attached to the tripod, the system extends from a minimum height of 4.72" to a maximum height of 64.56". Folded down to 15.74", the X2.1 Eddie is a versatile professional camera support system that fits in most airline carry-on bags.

The X2.1 Eddie's legs are composed of 3LT's Stealth carbon fiber for superbly lightweight strength – the tripod system weighs just 2.87 lb and supports up to 26.45 lb, to accommodate any DSLR with most lenses.

One of the tripod legs unscrews to become a monopod. The center column is both removable and reversible to accommodate shooting from the lowest of low angles. Leg angles can be set at three different positions; at their widest and with the column removed, the AirHed 2's camera plate sits only 4.7" from the ground.

The AirHed 2 is a sturdy magnesium alloy ball head that features separate control knobs for pan lock, tilt lock, and Arca-style clamping of the included quick-release plate. There's also a tension control built into the tilt-lock knob.

8-core Stealth Carbon Fiber legs, and 10-core Columns for smoother operation, plus more lateral and torsional strength.
Re-engineered leg mechanisms, for greater stability, as well as smoother and easier use.
Bronze anodizing and triple machined magnesium alloy parts for a smoother finish.
Redesigned AirHed with ultra smooth panning, enlarged locking knob for greater grip and new triple bubble system, lighter and smaller casing and now with 35kg load capacity.
Includes hook for hanging a counterweight (not included) from the center column, for extra stability in windy conditions

Comments about X2.1 Eddie Evolution 2 CF Tripod System w/AirHed 2 Ball Head (Black):

OK. This is my first carbon fiber tripod, so maybe I'm a little over-enthused, but after lugging around my 10-pound Bogen 3021 with the 3047 pan/tilt/rotating head for 30 years ( a marvelous, but heavy piece of gear), this 3 pound Three Legged Thing - even with the Airhed2 ball head mounted - feels like a bag of marshmallows. Build quality is excellent, it's very sturdy even with my 400mm/f4mounted and it packs like a dream. Not to mention one legs screws off to become a monopod. How ya gonna beat that? The designers knew what they were doing when they created this little gem. I use it for shooting elk and other wildlife in the National Parks. Should have done this long ago. B&H customer service was exemplary. No complaints with the product or the company. Happy Camper.

Comments about X2.1 Eddie Evolution 2 CF Tripod System w/AirHed 2 Ball Head (Black):

It's larger than I expected. A friend showed me the Brian model. I liked it enough, but wanted something a bit stronger. 29mm legs are really beefy; bigger than the Brian. It colapses short enough, but takes up more space than I was expecting due to the leg thickness. The oversized camera plate is a bit much for my liking also. Instead, I've decided to use an L bracket.

Everything about this tripod is excellent and fits with my expectations. It's a simple design that just works well. It has so many features packed into a small space. My only wish would be for 4 segment legs and spring loaded leg angle locks.

Comments about X2.1 Eddie Evolution 2 CF Tripod System w/AirHed 2 Ball Head (Blue):

The 3LT Eddie X2 is the best tripod I've ever had. I love how low it gets and how light it is as well as sturdy. The built in monopod is another great feature that I use with video on the go. I hate traveling with tripods but the Eddie is the perfect compromise. I love the 3LT style too, the company is just cool!

Comments about X2.1 Eddie Evolution 2 CF Tripod System w/AirHed 2 Ball Head (Blue):

I've been a long time RRS and prior to that, Gitzo user. Last year a friend showed me her 3LT Eddie tripod and it completely blew me away. I bought this one in March and have carried it literally every day since.

I mostly run a D4 or a D800, and last weeked I was shooting for Nikon with the 800mm F5.6 mounted, and it was solid. Not only that, but while I was shooting I suspended a gopro on the other end of the column and did some BTS footage.

The whole kit is rock solid, and comes in an awesome bag. There's a little column extension in it which I don't really know what to do with, but it was free with the kit, so not going to complain!

I use this with a Nikon D7000. It is great in that it is very light and portable. It sways a little in a strong wind, but the ease of use and portability make that a fine tradeoff. I just don't want to carry around the heavier, bigger ones all of the time! It fits my needs well.

Comments about X2.1 Eddie Evolution 2 CF Tripod System w/AirHed 2 Ball Head (Blue):

This is a well designed, flexible and light weight travel tripod. It folds up very small and has lots of options for leg placement. The screw off leg as a monopod is a nice function

it is very lightweight though. Don't plan on doing anything that requires steadiness for a long period of time such as astro photography.

Also do not buy this if you have something like a dslr with pro glass. A 70-200/2.8 would likely be a challenge for it.

When you extend the legs they sag under the weight of the tripod alone. This is not your go to everyday tripod. It's nice to hike up a mountain with.

Also, the company is very unresponsive I tried to contact them multiple times with questions about their products and they never responded.

Look at it like this. It's a carbon fiber tripod for a very low price - You get what you pay for.
