Comments about ikan VK7i 7" HDMI Monitor with Canon 900 Type Battery Plate:

love the screen, clear, sharp, excellent colour reproduction.....only defect is the battery adaptor. I use C100 so I order the Canon 900 series adaptor, BIG mistake. The battery was so heavy it affect the balance of the monitor, and the battery actually fall off with the adaptor plate when the monitor is tilted at a angle which is kind of upside down. Dropped the battery a few times. Got to order another battery adaptor and buy a set of battery and charger to use with it instead.

Anyway, love the screen and I would have give 5 star if not with the battery adaptor plate issue.

Comments about ikan VK7i 7" HDMI Monitor with Canon 900 Type Battery Plate:

I got this to use it with my Canon C100. I love the C100 for all of it's great features like the histogram, focus peaking, zebras all built in. The interesting thing is that it does NOT export that data through the HDMI cable. You can get a clean HDMI signal for an external recorder or get the camera data like battery life, rec status, aperture...etc. But none of the focus or exposure assist features go through. So it REALLY helps to have a monitor like this one with some of those features built in plus it adds in false color.

Without much trouble I was able to dial in the colors to match the C100 with a VERY high level of accuracy. It looks beautiful!!

The best thing about this monitor with the C100 is that you finally are able to see how beautiful the image is from this camera while recording. The EVF and rear LCD are just not sharp enough. They are good but even with focus peaking I found myself wondering if the image was truly sharp where I wanted it to be for those tough focus pulls. This monitor makes it 100% obvious even without focus peaking enabled on the monitor. It's soooo much better than monitors with the ugly 800X480 pixel count too.

The monitor is light weight but if you add a Cannon 900 style battery it get's about twice as heavy and my magic arm struggles to hold it with the sun hood. I recommend the smaller Canon LP-E6 battery plate because those batteries are much lighter and have a lower profile.

You can read about the functions but the only ones I regularly use is the magnify (pixel to pixel) and focus peaking. The Pixel to Pixel works as you would expect but there is a very slight delay which is slightly annoying. The monitor is slow to turn on and get running too.

The biggest 2 gripes I have with this monitor:
    1. They advertise the tally light but most cameras don't have the connection to make this function.

    2. The focus peaking is awesome, kind of, this is why I gave it 4 stars vs 5. It automatically changes to black and white and gives you the red focus indicators and it's very accurate on the edges of objects. But the C100 has spoiled me with it's ability to change the color of it and change how sensitive the focus peaking indicators are. I find that with this monitor it's really good at giving accurate results on the edges of objects but if the object doesn't have much contrast and you're trying to focus on an object that has any level of depth at all it has a rough time indicating the focus point. The C100 has no trouble with this at all but the C100's focus peaking does show that things are in focus while they may be only 80% in focus. This monitor really only lights up red when the object is really in perfect focus. So it's great but I find myself wanting to customize it a little which I'm not able to do.

All in all, sooo much value in a REALLY awesome monitor especially at this price point.
