Comments about Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E530 6272-4GU 15.6" Notebook Computer (Black):

The Lenovo ThinkPad is one of the more solid laptops going. Not cheaply made like some other brands that I checked out at local stores. Super fast processor makes surfing web a breeze and downloads fast. Definately would recommend Lenovo products to anyone looking to purchase a new computer. B&H had the best price going that I could find for the package purchased.

Comments about Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E530 6272-4GU 15.6" Notebook Computer (Black):

          E530 ThinkPad Edge.
First off my experience with the sales person of B&H was pleasant. The salesperson was not pushy to sell those items I did not need. It was shipped properly, packed & arrived as promised. Thank you B & H.
While shopping for a new laptop , I talked to several local 'experts', they all recommended this brand, they also discouraged me from opting for Windows 8. Looking at the specifications, & my budget, I chose this model.
I was impressed with its nice appearance; however, I realized opening is odd, there is no slot/push button or any indicator to facilitate it. Outer shell is rubberized, & a slight oily/greasy finger can leave a print. On the surface there is no indicator where, each port is. You have to guess, or download the users manual (180 pages). Since I wanted the information handy, I had to print this. I thought it will tell me the functions of all the programs loaded on it, no such luck. You have to trust IBM, Lenovo, and Microsoft that they were looking after your interest.
My first surprise came during the first week while turning off, I got the message, computer needs updates (~64), I had to wait for almost 30 minutes. When I re-started another message came, failure configuring updates, reverting changes, I had to wait again, finally when I wanted to turn off, that forced updating started, same wait. Next re-start same story, every updated was reverted. After going through this vicious cycle several times, I called Lenovo support in Atlanta (I had to call 4 times-they were polite), they could not help, I was told it is a Software issue & they can not be responsible (Microsoft problem). I was given a website, where one could locate a Lenovo repair expert. I called the closest shop(50 miles), the guy told me he will charge for his services unless Lenovo authorizes. I decided to download all the updates manually. Finally, I succeeded but my whole day was gone.
My second problem surfaced when I tried to email a document prepared on WordPad and failed. I called Lenovo in Atlanta, I was given 3 different toll free numbers, two for Microsoft & one for IBM. These calls ended overseas , where heavily accented people with fake names gave me run around, the last representative of Microsoft insisted I should purchase Microsoft Office for $120.00 to email any document. (Unlike their older program this new & improved version does not have spell check).
Third problem I am facing is my jumpy cursor , I tried to fix it from the direction but could not. While typing, cursor will leave the word incomplete, & start typing somewhere else. I type slow therfore I can catch the problem. Called Lenovo Atlanta again, the specialist took over the command & after some maneuvering brought me to a screen where the installation of "down loading the packages" started, I was grateful. However, downloading of 569.20 MB started, 20 minutes kept on stretching, I kept on watching the screen, the process took exactly 5 hours. I thought it was a Lenovo program, but it was again a Microsoft related issue.(The peoblem is still not fixed). When I called Atlanta a rude person told me they do not help with software issues.
Who is responsible for my adventures, Lenovo (it is their product), IBM (they are handling some issues), or perennial Microsoft which had 64 updates for a brand new computer, then some more useless updates which could not solve the problem, their overseas call centers are disgusting.
This computer will retain its looks only in the hands of a careful person.
Overall rating barely one star* out of five *.

It appears from the Lenovo website that this model is being replaced by a similar model but with i7 cpu. If this model meets your specs I suggest you buy before they are gone. I'm totally happy with mine. Excellent value.

Comments about Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E530 6272-4GU 15.6" Notebook Computer (Black):

I'm not a power user, but I do hate waiting on things to load - web pages, pictures, videos, large spreadsheets and datebase files, etc. I've always had Toshibas until now, which have worked well but they've never impressed me with their speed. Lenovo appears to be one of the few laptop makers that recognizes the value of a 7200 RPM hard drive, which was one big reason I chose this computer. It also came with Windows 7, which I greatly prefer over 8. For a middle of the road computer, it's fast. With Windows 7 I don't think the ram upgrade was absolutely necessary, but got the extra 4 gigs anyway. I installed it first thing so I'm not sure how much it helped.

The keyboard is nice, with full size keys for the number pad, but that puts it well left of center of the monitor, which will take some getting used to. I normally use a mouse, but this touch pad seems to be more user friendly than most, so I may actually use it. The web cam seems grainy, but I haven't used it much, so hard to say. Like everyone else, Lenovo loads a lot of their own software, with several of their utilities that control functions on the computer. They don't seem to slow anything down though, which is a nice change.

The big negative is the speakers, they're terrible. They sound tinny and project down from the bottom of the computer, so if you want good sound, additional speakers are in order. If the speakers were better, I would have given it 5 stars.
