The ThinkPad W530 2438-4CU 15.6" Notebook Computer from Lenovo takes the no-nonsense, business-oriented side of Lenovo ThinkPad notebooks and adds a touch of personality for small- to medium-sized businesses. The result is a 15.6" Lenovo notebook computer that weighs 6.19 pounds. This Lenovo notebook is also wrapped in a refined, soft matte coating with a sleek black finish.

The 15.6" widescreen display features LED lamps, which brighten faster, use less power and provide better image quality than their CCFL counterparts. The screen has a 16:9 aspect ratio, which is also the standard for HDTVs. The 1920 x 1080 native resolution is supported by a hybrid graphics system consisting of an nVIDIA Quadro K1000M with 2GB of discrete memory and integrated Intel HD Graphics 4000. The anti-glare coating allows you to use this Lenovo notebook in bright rooms or outdoors in the sunlight.

The system is powered by a quad-core Ivy Bridge 2.6GHz Intel Core i7-3720QM processor. It also has 8GB of 1600MHz DDR3 RAM, a 500GB 7200rpm hard drive, a 4-in-1 media card reader, a SuperMulti DVD burner, 10/100/1000Mbps Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, an integrated webcam and microphone. There are also built-in stereo speakers.

While Windows 7 Professional (64-bit) is the installed operating system, this Lenovo notebook comes with a DVD that allows you to upgrade to Windows 8. Windows 8 replaces the traditional Start menu with a redesigned Start screen. The Start screen features tiles that update in real-time, which provide faster access to news, weather forecasts, sports scores, social network updates and more. Windows 8 also focuses more on cloud storage as well as apps, which can be downloaded from the Windows Store. Windows 8 provides a unique user experience.

Comments about Lenovo ThinkPad W530 2438-4CU 15.6" Notebook Computer (Black):

Probably one of the best laptops i have used for work. Very fast for a laptop. Never gets hot, even when runs with turbo boost on. You can connect up to 4 monitors, which probably only few laptops on the market that can do that. Great, NOT glossy display which is perfect for outdoors with minimal reflection . At full HD resolution for some might be hard to read. Keyboard is excellent, i just wish that Enter key was bit bigger and shift key right below it was smaller. Option to install second HD in-place of DVDROM. Maximum of 32 GB RAM you can't beat that. Fan can get bit loud when running at full power but not to drive you crazy. I would suggest to upgrade to SSD and at least to 16Gb of ram.

          2. incredible graphic performance
          3. nice black built casing
          4. never hot even in intensive CPU and HDD work.

          CON:
          1. little heavy for mobile
          2. bulky power supplier

Comments about Lenovo ThinkPad W530 2438-4CU 15.6" Notebook Computer (Black):

I bought this laptop as a replacement for a 3-year-old 17" HP Pavilion that died suddenly (either failed motherboard or CPU). Because that experience made me skittish about buying another HP laptop, I researched the laptops with the best reliability record. Lenovo's Thinkpad, as a general class, had the best reliability, as determined by two sources. I bought the 15.6" W530 because it was the closest to 17" I could get in the Lenovo line.

I use this laptop in my work..."Have Powerpoint, will travel." Also use it for Internet research and communication (e-mail and Skype).

The good: It's sturdy. Screen resolution is 1920 x 1080, which is exceptional. Battery capacity is outstanding (5-7 hours). It comes with Windows 7 Home loaded, but also includes the disks to update to Windows 8 (which I didn't use, for various reasons). Starts very fast, launches programs equally fast.

The bad: When I plug in an external data projector, the screen resolution automatically reduces to the capability of the projector, but this causes icons to "disappear" off the side of the screen, with no way to bring them back (can't scroll left-right to find them). The only way I could overcome this was to move the critical icons to the center of the screen before changing the screen resolution. Also, function keys don't have the expected command to change monitor to both projector and laptop, or projector only. You have to "know" that the Windows Key+P will display the monitor options.

The ugly: The great screen resolution (1920x1080) makes type fonts so small that text is difficult to read. Ctrl + works to enlarge the font...sometimes, but sometimes not.

Not happy with the keyboard (the placement of critical keys such as Function, Control, End Insert, Delete, and Backspace). But I may get over that as I get used to it. I tend to hit the caps-lock inadvertently too often.

Cursor control is poor. The Thinkpad still has a joystick, but it also has a touchpad. The touchpad isn't very good (cursor sometimes doesn't follow touchpad movement consistently.) Sound card volume can't be increased high enough to suit me.

All things considered, if I had it to do over again, knowing what I know now, I'd have bought an HP again and taken my chance with the reliability.
