        Comments about High Sierra Clampette:

I bought my first one in a pawn shop for $ because I thought it would be handy... How incredibly handy, it is! I've used this critter for everything: off-camera flash, P+S Video mounted to a windshield, used two to mount a slider to a rail, podium mic/recorder setup, interview mic, impromptu long-exposure and many other little tasks. I have two and I keep one with me and my camera at all times. Bought a second one at an antique shop for... $. Cons: It is a little lightweight for a full size DSLR and lens, but, with care, it can be done (5D2 + Zeiss 1.4/35). It will have limits in that use (it will need to be pretty level, etc.) but just know that ahead of time. The 1/4-20 screw is a bit short and it usually isn't a problem, but once in a while, I wish it was a few MM longer, While not a con, I have had more than a few occasions when the clamp simply wasn't wide enough, but it is what it is. Pros: A thousand uses and it's so compact and lightweight you can keep it with you pretty much all the time. Don't think of it as just a camera support, anything with a 1/4-20 thread that needs to be buttoned down is fair game. Mics, flashes, lights, audio recorders, everything in my bag has been kept in place by one of these at one time or another. I had no idea these were still being made, but I'll probably order another one or two.

        Comments about High Sierra Clampette:

Not yet sure about how this will perform clamped to non-parallel or irregular-shaped surfaces--especially with heavier camera gear (anything more than a pocket-size P+S or camcorder). The padding on the jaws is very thin--might be problem on easily-damaged surfaces small surface area could leave marks, etc.). Best points are low cost, super-lightweight, pocket size, super-responsive US-based customer service. Haven't tried it--but I would hesitate to use this in high impact or fast moving applications like action sports videos, etc . . . unless it can really be clamped down to a regular-shaped solid parallel surface.

                  Comments about High Sierra Clampette:

It's tiny and clever and well-priced. Obviously, it can't clamp onto anything very large, but I knew that from the outset so I don't mind. It's a nice little thing when you don't want to lug a tripod.
