Comments about Rokinon 85mm f/1.4 Aspherical Lens for Nikon:

As many have pointed out this lens does produce beautiful bokeh, and the f/1.4 is very helpful in low light. This is now the fastest lens I own! The build seems rugged and since I shoot video, the all manual aspect of this lens is great. The focus ring has a long and slow pull to it, which is preferable for video. There are a few quirks though, which is to be expected on such a cheap lens. Firstly the lens cap doesn't fit on the front of the lens when you have the hood on. So it's either cap or hood... I'd prefer if you could do both. Secondly the focus ring is so hard to turn (relatively) that my cheap follow focus from Hong Kong isn't strong enough to work with it. These are minor issues though. Overall I love this lens, especially for the price, and the video I'm getting with it looks great.

Comments about Rokinon 85mm f/1.4 Aspherical Lens for Nikon:

I am a semi professional Photographer. I am interested in Candid photography. I use crop body D5100. 85 mm gives me optimum distance from the object so that I do not disturb them.

Pros for this model could be:
        Great bokeh
85 mm optimally narrow for me.
        Not much chromatic aberration

        Cons
        Manual focusing
no autofocus confirmation chip for this model
Initially I had problem of misfocusing consistenetly
But that seems to be problem with my eyesight rather than the Lens.
Very thin DOF makes it difficult for me to judge focus precisely.

Comments about Rokinon 85mm f/1.4 Aspherical Lens for Nikon:

I bought this and tested it for a day and returned it. The results of my shooting might be useful. I did side-by-side with an Olympus OM 90mm f/2.0, for what it's worth, using a NEX-5N. The Rokinon was on the NEX-5N with an adapter, but manual focus and manual exposure were sort of a given anyway.

RESULTS--very sharp. Very. Matched the legendary Olympus. But it had noticeable chromatic aberration. This was actually painfully obvious with both dark branches agains the sky (a common enough subject) and with a normal fence/screen against a dark background, which surprised me. I had trouble in general with flowers lit well agains a dark background when you went to the corners of the image, where a fringe would appear. I could correct most but not all of this in Photoshop.

I don't have any idea if the Nikon (or other) 85mm f/1.4 lenses would do this. I didn't test it at lower apertures because I didn't see the point (I'd buy a slower lens to start with if I planned on using it at f?2.8 or so).

I hope that might be helpful. I don't knock the lens for the price, but my copy did have some issues you should be prepared for up front, at any price.

Comments about Rokinon 85mm f/1.4 Aspherical Lens for Nikon:

I could barely use this lens. An 85MM lens has a small DOF and therefore requires a bright display for the lens to be useful. This lense will not allow enough light through so that I could focus at all. Manual aperture isn't a real bother, but if you can't focus, it's junk. I bought it for the reported IQ and it does have nice optics, but there's no brightness.

Comments about Rokinon 85mm f/1.4 Aspherical Lens for Nikon:

              The Seller is great.
I use the lens with Nikon D7000. It was detected by camera OK, spent some time finding a combination of settings for it, since it is manually focused. Not easy to focus on 1.4, but it is normal for such a stop.
not easy to focus for those who's picturing not a model or still life..

Comments about Rokinon 85mm f/1.4 Aspherical Lens for Nikon:

I bought this to use with my m43 system by using a Nikon to m43 adapter. The aperture ring clicks nicely into position. The focus ring is smooth and firm. f1.4 is very usable. There is no noticeable vignetting on m43 at any aperture. It is very sharp from center to edge. Bokeh is smooth and easy to achieve. Manual focus is easy to use. This is a great lens for portrait shots on m43 system. Worth every penny. A must have for all m43 users looking for an excellent manual focus portrait lens.
