If you're like me you're very unlikely to buy a lens this inexpensive; after all, the Nikon version costs about $1.8K while this is [$] we've all learned you "don't get something for nothing," well [$] is not nothing but compared to $1,800 is close. This lens is one of the rare exceptions in life and a definite bargain. When I opened the box I wasn't sure what to expect, but as soon as I felt it and rotated the focus ring I was instantly excited. My first test shots were at 1.4 in room light of my Boxer and what I saw in the file was detail and sharpness I rarely see with my fast Nikon primes wide open. I decided to buy the Rokinon 35mm f/1.4 lens. On D3 bodies focus is a breeze given the viewfinder's focus indicator. Thrilled with the purchase.

Knowing what I have been looking through reviews now when I bought this lens I may say that this is fairly good lens. For anyone who did not use this type of 1.4 lens previously, will need a period of adaptation.I Must say that it is very hard to focus although it has a chip and AF focus confirmation,I find my self using the eye on the subject method working best for me. Soft at 1.4 much much better at 1.8 and much easier to focus. Using it with moving subject is useless , but the bokeh for still portraits is so so smooth. Personaly I think that Nikkor 1.8 is better choice as you will not loose frames due to lack of AF on Rokinon.
Summary: With a bit more sharpenning you will get some great results

Comments about Rokinon 85mm f/1.4 Aspherical Lens for Nikon With Focus Confirm Chip:
I've have been looking at this lens for about 6 months now. I was a hard decision between the rokinon, nikon and sigma 85mm lens. However, once i looked at various photography forums about this lens I was amazed about how alot of buyers were comparing this lens againist similiar lenses. This is a all manual lens so zoom with you feet, it will take a couple of shots to get to use to it but once you have figured it out the results are astounishing. A great lens take will sure you in both still photography and dslr video. The AF confirmation chip is a waste of money its not very accurate save yourself a few dollars and buy one without this feature if you can.

Comments about Rokinon 85mm f/1.4 Aspherical Lens for Nikon With Focus Confirm Chip:
I was initialy hesitant about buying an inexpensive lens for my D3s, however, I have been quite pleased with this product. It is a great focal length and very fast. I've used it for outdoor shooting - flowers and wild birds. The image quality is much better than I would expect for the product. It is easy to docus and works well with the Nikon "in focus indicator." I would definitely recommend it.

Comments about Rokinon 85mm f/1.4 Aspherical Lens for Nikon With Focus Confirm Chip:
I'm no pro, I really wanted a 50 mm instead of an 85mm. I get made fun of sometimes at how far away I have to get to get just 4 people in the frame, but that's ok. The quality of fotos is definitely great. I hope to get even better photos now that I actually learned about the green dot that tells you that the Focus Confirm Chip has confirmed focus, because it's a challenge even with my glasses on to tell when it's focused. It's so precise in fact it can be a little frustrating at times that one person is in perfect focus but the person 6 inches farther away is out of focus. Over all a good experience and I love being able to finally take photos in low light without being grainy, and I'm very glad I splurged for the 1.4 and not the 2.8, which would not have been enough difference for me from my 3.5f/s. Aside from the that it gets lots of oooos and ahhhhhs because of the aspherical look.

Comments about Rokinon 85mm f/1.4 Aspherical Lens for Nikon With Focus Confirm Chip:
I typically only like the sharpest lenses I can find and this lens is not the sharpest at least at f1.4, but sharp enough. It is really intended for close portraits where everything else is soft including the subjects skin. Best thing is that I find it is easy to focus without looking at the green dot (Nikon) or if I use the dot it helps to reassure me that I am focused properly.

Comments about Rokinon 85mm f/1.4 Aspherical Lens for Nikon With Focus Confirm Chip:
This lens is a great affordable alternate to nikon or canons fast aperture 85mm primes .it produces great bokeh wide open while remaining razor sharp on the subject .this lens though is ideally suited as a portrait lens or for landscapes due to it being manual focus only .the focus confirmation chip version is a must though as trying to nail focus wide open can be a challenge and it assists greatly .as for down sides one it manually focus so it does limit its use to certain types of photography secondly its not weather sealed .

Comments about Rokinon 85mm f/1.4 Aspherical Lens for Nikon With Focus Confirm Chip:
Only thing missing is autofocus. the quality seems as good as any other except maybe the real top end glass offered from Nikon, Canon, Etc, It's certainly as good and or better than any of their run of the mill lenses. The focus is stiff but I expect that to get better with use. The focus is super critical when shooting wide open so maybe the tightness is a good thing causing me to slow down. the images seem sharp with good color and the quality of the out of focus "bokeh" are worth the price of the lens.

Comments about Rokinon 85mm f/1.4 Aspherical Lens for Nikon With Focus Confirm Chip:
Bought this lens 6 months ago, I can't be happier with this purchase, at the beginning I had a hard time getting used to manual focus, but after many, many shots of practice I finally managed to live without the AF, the focus confirm chip is a great help. This lens is great for shooting stills, portraits (nice bokeh) if you want to shoot action it will be very challenging for you.
I own a D5000 and the lens feels great on my camera, feels very solid. Finally I have to say that a f/1.4 for this price is really a bargain!

Comments about Rokinon 85mm f/1.4 Aspherical Lens for Nikon With Focus Confirm Chip:
The front and rear lens caps as well as the lens hood are cheap garbage that barely lock onto the lens body, but the lens construction and image quality are stellar. The Rokinon gives you the same beautiful creamy bokeh at wider apertures as the Nikkor 85 1.4G, which makes this lens perfect for portraiture at [$] less than the Nikkor. Are you willing to manually focus your lens for [$] or would you prefer the lens to focus for you and pay [$]? The decision was a no-brainer for me.I just photographed a couple in a park for an engagement photo shoot. The autofocus ring is perfectly smooth yet resistant and the focus confirm chip works well, so manual focus was easy. The images are sharp and stunning, and I got to keep the lens at the end of the weekend (I used to rent the Nikkor 85mm 1.4G for the weekend and reluctantly returned it to the local camera store on Mondays). My only complaints are:1. As mentioned before: lens caps and lens hood keep falling off the lens2. The auto exposure tends to underexpose on my D300 (easily remedied by using manual exposure or adding EV compensation on the body)If you shoot portraits, buy this lens!

Comments about Rokinon 85mm f/1.4 Aspherical Lens for Nikon With Focus Confirm Chip:
The image quality produced by this lens is excellent. The lens is so fast that even pictures taken indoors without flash look great. The lack of autofocus is a minor inconvenience for the cost savings. My only complaint is that attaching the lens to the camera mount is not quite as smooth and easy as it is with my Nikon or Sigma lenses. Overall though, a real bargain.

Comments about Rokinon 85mm f/1.4 Aspherical Lens for Nikon With Focus Confirm Chip:
Photography is my hobby, and I love portraits. So I started searching for a new lens, because I wanted something different from just my kit lens. I don't have the kind of money to throw at a Nikon lens so I started looking at ones similar to this. At first I was nervous about no AF, but it hasn't been that much of a problem. I have found I've become a better photographer because I am forced to shoot in manual mode and have had to learn what actually goes into each picture. The only annoyance is you have to kinda guess at the shutter speed/ISO when you start each new session, but once you set that up you're good to go. I didn't find this lens to be too heavy or cumbersome. Was a little tricky to get on at first, but now I have no problems. I am LOVING this lens. The photos themselves turn out wonderful. Only problems I've had are definitely user error. The bokeh is AMAZING. I loveeeee this lens!

My daughtebirthday/fathers day gift and I really enjoy this lens after I told her I liked to give this lens a try. I love how sharp my photos look especially when I enlarge them. I don't understand why some people have given this lens a bad review based off it not being an auto-focused lens considering it states it in the item decription. But after seeing other opinions about this lens I tought this would be a good thing to give a try at and so far has not let me down. As far as not having auto-focus, who care it it doesn't cause it get me to practice and learn more on taking photos and not relying on my cameras auto-focus on how my photos look. The only problem that I have with this lens is that it feels a little heavier than my other lens and that it is a little hard for me sometimes to attach it to my camera since I don't have a dot on it to align it good. Other that that I really enjoy taking photos with this lens.

I've never been a big fan of AF lenes so when this lens came out I just had to get it for the price. Is it a bargan? Oh yeah! Is it just as good as the higher priced competition? Close, very close. This lens can produce pro results but you have to be an old world craftsmen. In other words, you'll need to understand photography and not be a point and shoot king/queen.
Here in the tropics of Hawaii everything moves fast, including families who want portraits and there is no second chances. With this lens and its 1.4 setting, you're fast. Learn to focus and nothing can catch you.
