Product Highlights
  • 3-in-1 Honeycomb Grid
  • 25°, 45°, and 16° Spots
  • Grids Stack For a 16° Spot
  • Attaches to Shoe Mount Flashes
  • Small and Light Design
  • Adjustable Tension Strap
  • Nylon Storage Pouch

The Rogue 3-in-1 Honeycomb Grid is 2 grids, a 25° and 45°, that combine to create a 16° spot. Unlike most traditional grids which are designed for off-camera continuous lights and flashes, this grid set is designed for on-camera, shoe mounted flashes. Rogue made the set small and light, and it includes an adjustable strap for secure attachment to any shoe mountable flash. When not in use, these grids and strap store safely in the included nylon pouch, which promises not to take up too much room in the photographer's gear bag.

3 Grid Angles in One Compact Package
The patent pending Rogue Grid design features stacking honeycomb grids that provide 16°, 25°, and 45° spot lighting control. This means that photographers can choose from 3 different size grid options using this small, lightweight system. Measuring 3.6 x 1.2", and weighing just under 3.5 oz, with the included strap, the Rogue Grid fits easily into any photographer's bag
How Does it Work?
The Rogue Grid’s unique design utilizes precision-molded honeycomb grids that can be used independently for the 25° or the 45° spots, or stacked together to create the 16° spot. Because the honeycomb cells align precisely using the integrated alignment features, they can be stacked without creating unwanted shadows and reducing light output. When not being used, the stacked grids store conveniently inside the bezel
What Does the Light Look Like from a Honeycomb Grid?
When attached to a light source, a honeycomb grid creates a spot of light with a gradual fall-off useful for adding dimension and depth to an image, or for highlighting important features. The angle of the grid determines the size of the spot projected forward, with smaller degree grids producing smaller spots, and larger angles producing larger spots
How Are Honeycomb Grids Typically Used?
Grids are often used on off-camera flashes as hair lights in portraiture, or for background or accent lights anytime a photographer is interested in highlighting a portion of an image for dramatic effect. When attached to an off-camera flash, grids help draw attention to an object, texture, or color, and can help to create a desired atmosphere or mood in an image
Easy to Attach
The Rogue Grid securely attaches to almost all standard shoe mount flashes using the included adjustable Rogue Tension Strap. The Rogue Grid may also attach to an optional snooted Small FlashBender reflector
Storage
Also included is a durable nylon storage pouch that accommodates both the Rogue Grid and grid strap
Dimensions 3.6 x 1.2" / 92 x 30mm

I have three of these and prefer them over the Honl grid, of which I have one. The light shaping aspect of the grids work perfectly and the flexibility of using both grids at once or separately adds versatility. Very nice. What is not so nice is the way the grids attach to the flash as if you point it downwards, no matter how much you tighten the velcro, their weight will make them fall out of the unit. I have fixed this on all three grids I own with self adhesive velcro, but this should be fixed by ExpoImaging. Attachment to the flash works perfectly and firmly, but from nylon material to the grids, not so much. The second not so great thing about this grid is if it used near a background pointed towards camera, for rim lighting an object, for example, the space in the flash attachment allows for light to leak towards the back of the flash, and this could throw unwanted light on one's controlled set. I also fix this by using a piece of cinefoil when needed. This will not affect every user in every case, but it has often been the case in lighting small items, such as the cocktail in the attached image.

I plan on using this for general photography and portraits.

It's pretty easy to use except for trying to take the gels out after you have put them in without getting finger prints all over them. It is easy to use other than that and makes a nice spot at the 3 angles that they advertise.

The biggest downside to this product is that it falls off all the time. It does not secure very well to the flash. If the flash is at a downward angle, I have had to use gaffers tape to keep it on the flash.

I would recommend looking at all your options before buying this one.

Comments about ExpoImaging Rogue 3-in-1 Honeycomb Grid:

I have tried a lot of grids for my speedlight setup, and this is the best. It projects a round beam, adjustable from wide to very narrow by inserting one or both grids. It attaches easily without any tools or additional accessories. There's no spill from the side. It's not cheap but for me it was worth the price.

This is a great accessory for speedlites, I just wish they made a more rugged and flash specific so it would be more form fitting. It would aslo be great if the grids could slide in and out insteasd of having to take the front off the flash. but overall I am pretty happy with this.

Pricey for some pieces of plastic, but well made and it works.

I found it works best to first attach the honeycomb holder to the snoot and then attach the snoot to the flash.
If done the other way around, the snoot tends to collapse while mounting the honeycomb holder, causing frustration.
I also found that attaching a couple of rubber bands to the flash-head prior to mounting the snoot helps prevent snoot slippage during the shoot.

I was a bit skeptical about this, but it is well made, fits on my flash, and just works. Easy to use.
Note: no need to spend extra $$$ on the filter package. If you already have filters that you tape, velcro, rubber band to your flash, just use that!

For the price and the functionality, this snoot rocks!!! Get the gel pack for it to add colored effects as an accent/hair light. Packs small in the bag, too.

This grid does just what it should and it looks good doing it. My only other experience is with my homemade grids, which work great but aren't terribly sturdy. I made three grids for a Canon speedlite out of cardboard, glue and drinking straws. I really like DIY stuff and don't mind spending the extra time to put them together but after I got a larger speedlite that my grids wouldn't work with I was not willing to put all that time in again. I can't say the Rogue works any better than the ones I made but it will certainly outlast them. I think I would have to try pretty hard to break any part of the Rogue grid. It also stores very nicely and relatively flat. It works well for me as a hard-light kicker for portraits. I don't see how you could go wrong with this.

My reason for purchasing this product was for more light control in some portrait situations. The device is well made but, like other one-size-fits-all items, the fit, though adjustable, can be troublesome. The tube which forms the sides of the device comes stuffed in a leather pouch. This puts kinks and creases in it which hinders installation to some degree. I had some aggravation getting the honeycomb to stay in place without falling out.

For reasons of economy to the manufacturer and consumer, the one-size-fits-all approach is nice but this also leads to a marginal fit. In fairness, more use on my part may cause a change of heart on these points, Initially, however, it seem like a well-made nice device, not a great device.

I've used other grids on Speedlights that were just not up to the job. The Rogue fits snugly and stays aimed where it is pointed. A choice of three patterns works like a charm and comes in a nice compact case. I'll stay with this one.
