Comments about MARGOLIN Small SteadySnake Neck-Pod:

After purchasing my first camcorder last month to document the life of my elderly mother, I quickly realized I'd need some type of camera support that would free my eyes and hands to interact with her during the shoot. Engaged caregiving is particularly important for patients with dementia, and the Margolin Small SteadySnake Neck-Pod not only left my hands free but also eliminated any obstructions between my face and hers.
During my search for the right product, I considered every kind of camera-mount on the market. Most mounted on the shoulder, braced against the chest or stomach by a plastic arm, resulting in camera movement during the breathing process. Most seemed too large and/or heavy for my Sony handycam, and many were priced for professionals.
Thinking about a solution during my research, I concluded that using the neck to carry the camcorder weight would be ideal. That's when I ran across former MIT professor Margolin's clever neck-pod invention.
The SteadySnake wraps around the neck with an infinitely flexible rubber-wrapped support, allowing precise positioning of the camcorder in relation to my eyes and chest. No obstruction separates my gaze from my mother's, and camera movement from breathing is minimal if the pod is positioned correctly.
I can sit, stand, move around, zoom, and pan without any problems both inside and outside the home, taking full advantage of my Sony HDR-PJ710V Handycam's Balanced Optical SteadyShot Image Stabilization system. SteadySnake is available in small, medium, and large sizes, and the small version is perfect for my small (but powerful) camcorder.
The only quibble I have with this product is that it's a bit heavier than I would like. At 5'9", I'm larger and stronger than most women, but the neck-pod is somewhat uncomfortable for me after a half-hour shoot. I say "somewhat" because I can't imagine another camera support that's better designed, thought-out, and innovative.
Good job, Professor Margolin! Thanks from me and the thousands of customers who will enjoy your creativity...
