Comments about Elinchrom Quadra Hybrid Li-Ion Pro 2 Light Kit with S Flash Heads:

The system works well, with one exception that I mention later. The system is easy to carry about. I bought from B&H the cover for the battery, so that I fling it over my should when I walk to the shooting-site. The battery has a long life. The fast-shooting option seems to me to be more reliable; with it I do not get missed flashes. The light with the small softbox that is designed to go with the system with an adapter can be bit harsh. The light with the 39" mini-octobox blends well with the ambient light, but the reflector adapter is awful to remove. The 1st time I traveled 40 miles to a strong friend to remove the adapter so that I properly could store the flash-head. Now I just leave the adapter on and attach the plastic protector to the flash-head with rubber bands. Except for this one flaw, I would give the system 5-stars.

Comments about Elinchrom Quadra Hybrid Li-Ion Pro 2 Light Kit with S Flash Heads:

These things are pretty great. They are so small and light weight, the battery life is great, assembling them is a sinch, and they do basically everything I need for on location shooting. They are pretty expensive though, and for me, if you need elinchrom products in a pinch the only choice you have is to order them online with rush delivery, nobody in LA uses Elinchrom it seems. The only real downside is that the cables that connect the lights to the battery are way too short (only 8 ft, they should just supply you with the 11ft ones) and Elinchrom's light modifiers are an incredible pain. For the quality of the lights you get though, you would be hard pressed to find a better product.

Comments about Elinchrom Quadra Hybrid Li-Ion Pro 2 Light Kit with S Flash Heads:

I have been using the Elinchrom Ranger Speed AS for a number of years. They're wonderful lights, especially with the various light modifiers available. But I'm a location/travel photographer and their weight was slowly killing me. The rolling ThinkTank Logistic case I keep them in is almost 70 pounds. My back hurt after long days with them. There were times they could have improved a shoot but I didn't use them because of the effort to drag them with me. So after some research I bought the Quadra Hybrid kit. I considered ProFoto but already had light modifiers for Elinchrom. I can't say the Quadra instructions are very good because they aren't. They're not much help at all in fact. Fortunately I've been around the block and figured out the basics pretty quick. My next three shoots I took them and the Rangers. I planned on using the Quadra's but wanted the Rangers as back up in case I had any problems. I had no problems. I used a beauty dish and Rotalux Deep Octa with them, hooking them up with the Reflector Adaptors. I was also afraid the 400 WS power might not be enough for noon outdoor portraits but they worked like a charm, had more than enough power and at the end of the shoot I was still fresh and ready, no back issues. They're so small and light I think I could get away with packing them in a small backpack . I've read a few complaints about the Reflector Adaptor and it's plastic components not being sturdy enough but so far I have found them easy to use and reliable. I do suggest getting a couple head extension cables. They reportedly reduce the power somewhat but so far I haven't noticed any change but the conveniently short cables on the heads limit their placement.
I also loved the LED modeling lights which are bright enough to use for video. The skyport transmitter worked great with the built in receiver as well, though I haven't tested the distance beyond 25 feet yet. It was very easy to adjust the power to the heads from the camera. The small antenna feels like it would break easily but I'm not hard on gear and have had no problems. I work using stands but it's so light you could easily put the power pack on a shoulder and move around with a head if you were doing event photography and needed more power than a speedlight.
