I bought this device so that I could use it during unexpected power outages during the Florida hurricane season as well as use this on my small boat to see the live weather radar and to help pass the time. I made sure that when I scanned for channels that I went outside so that the tuner could locate the best signals. The TV found all the channels that I also receive on my TV's antenna inside my house. The operation of the TV is simple and serves its purpose. I have not had the opportunity to deplete the first set of batteries yet (4xAA size), however, this is a reason why I chose to buy the 3.5" model over the larger 7 inch one. By allowing me to replace the batteries, I am not tied to a power source during a natural emergency, whereas, other models use an internal or proprietary rechargeable battery. Unfortunately, there is no way to recharge during a power outage, so this was a consideration. Two observations I would like to share are screen resolution and external power source. 1. The screen has a great clear picture, however, it is a little difficult to see in bright sun. 2. The external DC power source is difficult to find and a universal DC power adapter I bought at [*] did not fit the receptacle. I feel that this portable TV is a good buy and BnH had a great price for it at the time of purchase, even beating [*] by more than $10. I would recommend this device to those living in areas where there is frequent power interruptions due to storms. Enjoy.

This little TV has one really good feature: You can power it with replaceable AA batteries. That makes it ideal for an emergency TV when the power is out and you have no way to charge up a TV with rechargeable batteries. The picture quality is fair for the size of the TV, and the menu is intuitive and easy to follow. But the Achilles heel of this TV is the antenna. If you look up "flimsy" in the dictionary, you'll find a picture of this antenna next to it. I think you could bend it just by looking at it! And to make matters worse, the external antenna connector is a proprietary plug that you have to buy from the manufacturer--for nearly $15.00. It's pretty hard to believe they came so close to building the perfect emergency TV, only to blow it by saving ten cents on the antenna.

Comments about 3.5" LED Portable Digital TV (Gray):

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by this little TV. After reading all the reviews, half of the purchasers loved it and the other half hated it. I took a chance after speaking to a B&H rep. about there return policy. It's been perfect so far. I picked the 3.5 versus the 7 because of the batteries used to operate them. Alkaline AA available anywhere, Li-poly not so much.

Comments about 3.5" LED Portable Digital TV (Red):

I wanted a portable TV to use during power outages. This little TV should do the trick. The picture quality is quite good. The little antenna is very delicate but works well if you place the TV near a window. I will experiment with an external antenna to see if more channels are available. If you are looking for a very portable TV that runs on replaceable batteries, I don't think you can go wrong with this set.

Comments about 3.5" LED Portable Digital TV (Red):

I bought it for an emergency & travel TV. Even in a well-developed suburb outside Seattle, it only receives 8 channels, of which 4 are shopping channels, 1 spanish channel, 1 religious channel and 2 "leftovers". No major network stations with news. So it doesn't provide what I needed at least here. Direction manual is poorly written in non-native english and construction is on the cheap side. Batteries are difficult to insert and extract, the "stand" is a cheap piece of plastic. Sadly, "RCA" is no longer associated with quality. The only reason I gave it 2 stars, is at least it works a little and you get what you pay for. Hopefully it will work better in another location to earn both stars. Spend your money towards something better.

The TV itself looks very nice. It's small, lightweight and uses AA batteries. The problem is that the TV tuner and built in antenna is very bad. It has a very hard time picking up a TV signal. I live about 6 miles from a major city and i could not pick up even one channel. All it says is "No Signal Found". If you live in a major city than maybe it will work for you.

Sound is a little lacking on it's own (but it's small so I shouldn't be too surprised). The picture is great and to run on batteries while hiding in a storm shelter is invaluable. Who know when the power will give out during tornado weather in OK?!

This is an excellent little tv for over the air broadcasts. Far exceeds the channel grabbing potential of my previous Digital Prism tvs. The battery life is about 2-3 hours, but sufficient to get through a storm. 4 stars only because it does not come with an ac power adapter (which it really needs).

What's good: Price is right. Disposable batteries are cheap and easy to replace. Built-in antenna seems adequate for location -- relatively flat terrain, with strong TV signals. What's not: The manual is so abbreviated it's virtually worthless. No info on AC connector (what type, where to buy) or on external antenna connector (ditto). External antenna outlet does not accept standard adapter for coax. 800 number in manual does not answer.

I have an older 7" LCD that I've been using for emergencies, but it doesn't work very well and has an internal battery that always low whenever I needed it. I bought this as a replacement, because it uses common batteries (I've got lots of AA rechargeable's), it performs better and its more portable.

Over the years I've collected passively, over 10 analogue-signal pocket TVs that I will occasionally haul out to play with using an aligator-clip to connect to cable and watch just for fun. This little TV is really valuable to take places and use while waiting where a book is hard to consentrate on. I'm blown away at the bright, clear picture and easy-to-use menu. Cudos to RCA!!
