The DS713+ 2-Bay Scalable Server for Business from Synology is a two bay NAS (network attached server) enclosure capable of handling up to two 4TB drives. The enclosure supports both 2.5" and 3.5" drives that are hot swappable allowing you to swap them out without the need to shut down your system. With a dual core 2.13GHz processor and 1GB DDR3 RAM this server is capable of handling multiple tasks at the same time. The DS713+ server also comes equipped with a variety of ports including two USB 3.0 ports, one USB 2.0 port, and one eSATA port making it easy to setup and configure.

Along with the versatile connection options, the DS713+ 2-Bay Scalable Server for Business comes equipped with a variety of application options. You can utilize the virtual drive capability to configure the drive for use by other users without repartitioning the drive or provides a means to create special folders and make them accessible throughout the network with the remote folder application. You also benefit from a variety of backup solutions including network backup, local backup, desktop backup, shared folder sync, USBcopy, and configuration backup.

Dual Core CPU
With dual core CPU and Link Aggregation, Synology DS713+ provides 202.3 MB/sec reading and 135.84 MB/sec writing speed under RAID 1 configuration in a Windows environment. For back up onto external hard drives, Super-Speed USB 3.0 ports provide ten times the transfer speed of its predecessor. Dual-LAN failover support hot-swappable drives ensure continual service uptime during drive replacement or unexpected LAN failure.
RAID-Management
Synology Hybrid RAID (SHR) automatically optimizes RAID capacity and protection based on hard drives installed, eliminating the need for identical sizes while retaining custom setup options for advanced users. Multiple Volumes on RAID allows for more than one volume to be created on a single RAID structure, giving you flexibility across all available drives. Volumes can be expanded as necessary by allocation on the easy-to-use UI, and Synology's DiskStation Manager (DSM) does the rest without any service interruption.
Flexible Scalability Up To 28TB
When the storage capacity of DS713+ nears its limit, upgrading is easy with the optional Synology DX513 expansion unit. Connected via eSATA with specially designed locking devices, DX513 expands storage capacity up to a maximum of 28TB with minimal time-investment in setup and configuration.
Virtualization Ready
Fully compliant with VMware, Citrix, and Hyper-V, with iSCSI and VAAI support, DS713+ is the most affordable virtualization storage solution of its kind, allowing SMB users to consolidate data storage while giving the illusion of locally attached disks.
Cross-Platform Interoperability
DS713+ runs Synology's DiskStation Manager (DSM) - an easy-to-operate OS which can be customized to include applications of your choice to fulfill your requirements. Extensive network protocols support provide seamless cross-platform file sharing between Windows, Mac OS and Linux. Windows AD and LDAP integration allows the DS713+ to fit into existing business network infrastructure without having to recreate user accounts, while Windows ACL allows IT personnel to set up privileges to files and folders through familiar Windows UI, delivering peace of mind with simplicity.
Easy Backup Solutions
The DS713+ can become a centralized backup target for consolidating fragmented and unstructured information across your network through a range of options. PC users can backup to DS713+ with Synology's Data Replicator, While DS713+ also fully supports Mac OS X's native Apple Time Machine. Synology's own backup wizard can back up information to another Synology NAS or any rsync server, with the option of using an encrypted connection, or to an external hard drive via USB 3.0 or eSATA. The wizard can also back up your information to the cloud, including Amazon S3 and STRATO HiDrive.
Multi-Purpose Packages
Additional functions in the form of one-click-installation packages allow your DS713+ to take the place of other hardware. VPN Server turns your DiskStation into a Virtual Private Network server, providing secure access to your private LAN from remote locations. Surveillance Station creates a centralized interface from the management of IP cameras. Additional approved 3rd party PHP web application featuring tools such as content management, customer relationship management and e-commerce systems can be hosted on DS713+ by using Web Station with support PHP/MySQL web content.
Energy Efficient Design
The Synology DS713+ consumes relatively little power at 30.7 watts while operating. Wake on LAN/WAN and scheduled power on/off features can further reduce power consumption and operation costs. HDD hibernation can be configured to take effect automatically when the system has been inactive for a specified period of time to save energy and extend hard disk life. All Synology products are produced with RoHS compliant parts and packed with recyclable materials.

Comments about Synology DS713+ 2-Bay NAS Server:

The performance of this unit is awesome, and I foud it very useful. I'm only dissapointed with the CloudStation software. It is suppossed to be a "personal cloud" just as DropBox, OneDrive, GoogleDrive or others, but when you install the application it literally eats the entire hard disk space. Even if you keep versions set to a mínimum, you realice that still some space s wasted. Synology has to improve this in the future, otherwise it cannot be considered a "personal cloud" with such waste of space.

Moreover CloudStation is no compatible with Windows RT

Comments about Synology DS713+ 2-Bay NAS Server:

I purchased this as an upgrade to the DS211j and the speed difference is amazing. Migrating was super simple - just transfer the hard drives and follow a few easy steps in the Disk Station Manager and voila. Shipping from B&H was fast and efficient - as always.

Comments about Synology DS713+ 2-Bay NAS Server:

Excellent product. The DS713+ performs just as it is advertised. I am using it at home to provide NFS shares for VMware ESXi. The compatibility with VMWare was important. I also added two WD NAS disks 3Tb each. Plenty of space and options. The device is quite and as a small footprint. I would recommend the device for home or small office settings. The only disadvantage is the cost which is a little high.

As a bonus the device offers many add on apps that support DNS and etc.

There's no question that the 713+ packs a great CPU, onboard transcoding and a feature set that is outstanding in a small package. A newcomer to NAS I purchased this for use as a digital media server. Coupled with a Roku XS2, I couldn't ask for more. Great hardware and I've not been able to fault it. Synology knows what they're doing. I purchased this as a package with 2x Seagate 4TB drives in RAID1 configuration.

I have no complaints about this device. It does exactly what its supposed to do and does it well. Consistently 120MB/s read rates. About 80 to 90 on the writes. I am also using this as a pyTivo server. It can transcode at just about 1 for 1 on an HD encoded mp4. Same for mkv. B&H did a great job as usual. Now that [[@]] charges for CA sales tax, B&H is my go to for electronics.

Comments about Synology DS713+ 2-Bay NAS Server:

So I am coming from 6 years of use with a DS207+ that I love. I really had no reason to upgrade other than the fact that Synology dropped the upgrade support for my aging DS207+ (I do question their support when clearly some of the older models are easily capable of running the newer DSM, but I guess it's a money thing). So after looking into all possibilities including building a custom NAS and running the Synology DSM on it I opted for the DS213 with an ARM processor. After having it a couple of weeks I decided to upgrade to the DS713+ with a real x86 processor. Its not the best but it does handle PLEX transcoding for the quality of movies I keep (700mb-1.2gb Average) unlike the DS213. I feel the few hundred dollars more was worth it for the future upgrade potential. I also changed to 2gb of RAM before I ever turned it on and have had no issues. I have never seen the usage go above 20% though so I probably did not need it but it was cheap enough.

All in all I am very happy with the product because it can be a setup and forget (Like my 6yo DS207+) or you can stay on top of it with the latest and greatest mods and betas. I also would rather rely on a proven and supported design than some of the DIY options out there (My time has finally become worth more to me).

I enjoy Synology and it pairs well with my all Ubiquiti network so I will continue to buy these in the future as I know my family photos and documents will remain safe.

                      ,Terry

Comments about Synology DS713+ 2-Bay NAS Server:

This is my first NAS for our home. For a household that has 3 kids and lots of mobile devices, this NAS is invaluable for storing and serving and streaming documents/media (we store lots of music, family photos, family videos, movies, and other documents). The set-up was incredibly fast and user friendly. The Desktop software and applications ("packages") are powerful and easy for the beginner. I preferred this NAS over the DS413+ because of the faster processor (which allows for broader transcoding capabilities). I'm glad I chose the faster processor as transcoding and streaming large files taxes the NAS (I have a lot of older .avi files). In fact, I technically could use an even faster processor, but they may come later down the line. We serve files/media through both Apple devices, PCs, and other DNLA devices. In short, I would highly recommend this to other uses.

DS713+ came with two 2TB drives and was a snap to setup. Much nicer than another NAS product that it replaced. So far it's running like a champ! Couldn't be happier.

I have only had the DS713+ for about a week. I'm still trying to explore the many possibilities that this System provides. I bought it primarily as a backup for 3 desktops, 3 laptops, and a android tablet (haven't done that yet). I installed 2 3GB WD Red hard drives. I'm currently trying to enable the Aggregation speed enhancement (IEEE 802.3ad) Dynamic Link. I just purchased a switch from B&H Netgear GS108Tv2 switch from B&H (great price) which is supposed to enable this capability. I haven't really had time to install this yet. Has a ton of various software packages (most free) that can be installed and implemented.
