The SpectroLED-14 Three Light Kit (120VAC/12VDC) by Genaray includes two 14" LED lights, one 9" LED light, diffusers, cables, power sources and 3 light stands. Two wired remote dimmers and a 5.4' Mini Boom and a 5/8" Stud adapter complete the kit. The 14.5" 10-100% dimming SpectroLED 14 fixture has a 60° beam angle and a color temperature of 5,600K. 1,144 LEDs output an impressive brightness equivalent many times its nominal 75W rating. The smaller 9.5" diameter SpectroLED 9 has the same dimming qualities, power efficiency and color temperature.

In a field dominated by rectangular or square arrays Genaray has made the wise choice to make their studio lights circular. Not only does the increased surface area have more wrap-around light characteristics but the shape renders pleasing, natural-looking catchlights in your subject's eyes. And if you're doing portraiture you can soften the SpectroLED output while widening its native 60 degree coverage by slipping the included 3/4 stop diffusion sock over the reflector. Heat is never a concern since the cool-running SpectroLED 9 and 14 are barely warm to the touch. Another way to soften the quality of light is the umbrella socket that's built into the mounts. You can use reflective or translucent umbrellas for bounce or shoot-through effects. The socket accepts 7.0 or 8.0 mm shafts and has a 65 degree tilting range for perfect placement.

Power is provided by the included 120VAC Power Supply/Adapters. The inclusion of cigarette lighter adapter cords also give you the option of using 12V batteries for convenience or location shooting. You can run the your SpectroLED-14 for approximately 70 minutes on an average fully charged battery and the SpectroLED-9 for up to 300 minutes. Not only are you saving money every time you use the SpectroLEDs due to their low current draw, but with a 50,000 hour lamp life the SpectroLEDs are virtually maintenance-free.

Note: runtime is approximate depending on battery selected

Comments about Genaray SpectroLED-14 Three Light Kit (120VAC/12VDC):

Great value for interviews and smaller size productions. The lights are brighter than you may think, so I could see using this to help light up a room for a drama film also with the use of some warming filters.

PROS: Great amount of light portability and function (even includes two remotes) for the money!
Note, these two larger LED lights have 900 bulbls on them at over 6,000 lux. you can't find a kit with that power at almost twice this price. (I bought them at the sale price)
Quality was better than expected also, no cheap plastic parts.
the backing is not plastic and the goose necks and any areas that take a load is quite thick.

        CONS:
1.) No light temperature changing. I know at this price I wouldn't have that, but at least throw in a few properly sized warming gels so these could be used for indoor room matching.
        2.)
There is a definite high pitched hum when the lights are not a full brightness. I called B&H before ordering these asking that if this hum was not just a rumor could I return them and they said yes but they have not heard of anyone returning them for that reason.
I should mention it is not very loud, but in a sterile quite interview setup it could get recorded. If and only if the hum gets onto your audio recording, you could try to cancel it out.
You could record it, and in soundbooth you could isolate and remove that frequency. (it's so high that I doubt it would interfere with the voice)
BUT, what I'm doing is simply turning them all the way up (which is too bright) and then backing them off a bit. It's not ideal and takes up more space but my fear is gone. With a lapel I doubt it would get recorded, but I'm using a shotgun mic that has much better frequency response for a nicer fuller voice recording and I think it may pick it up.
For me, this is not a show stopper. it is quiet but high pitched which I believe is why we can hear it.

It would be nice if these came with a case.
        I didn't see any on B&H but perhaps I didn't look enough.

My only reason for the 4 stars was the hum, you may never hear it when someone is talking and a noise gate could kill it in the silent times, but none the less it's there. And once I start producing I'll see if it's any type of issue or not.
Don't let it scare you off though, it is not like the hum of a fluorescent bulb.

Comments about Genaray SpectroLED-14 Three Light Kit (120VAC/12VDC):

Prefer a continuous light source for product photography, particularly ceramics with deep, highly reflective glazes. This kit performs well. Light and sturdy, nice quality light (slight cyan tint easily corrected post-capture). Though the light output does not rival studio strobes, it is plenty bright. When depth of field requires small apertures, I simply use longer exposures.

For transport, I use two inexpensive rigid plastic totes with locking lids. They are light, offer good protection, and fit in the trunk of my car.

Comments about Genaray SpectroLED-14 Three Light Kit (120VAC/12VDC):

If the dimmer didn't make a high pitched noise I would give them 5 stars, however when you must leave the lights at full power what's the point of having the dimmer? The high pitched noise is intermittent but if it's there it will ruin an interview or at least give you a repair headache. I am keeping the lights because they are the best for the price and I will use ND filters or make some rings to partially block the light. I hope they fix the problem because besides that they are great lights, they can light up a room, not just a tighter interview shot like some of the other lower priced options. Oh, the 9" light dims fine, it's just the higher powered 14" ones that don't. IF you buy them, skip the dimmer remotes.

Comments about Genaray SpectroLED-14 Three Light Kit (120VAC/12VDC):

The is great kit to purchase especially for offsite situations. The LEDS are definitely powerful enough, and in fact, we used the dimmer switches to operate at only about 75%. The other good things are the LEDs are absolutely cool, and the whole kit is light and easy to transport. It takes about 15-20 minutes to setup everything if you are not rushing about. You could do it quicker if that is necessary.

Comments about Genaray SpectroLED-14 Three Light Kit (120VAC/12VDC):

I purchased this lighting kit for a corporate video I'm making, shooting mostly single person interviews. We shot 10+ setups in one night with no issues.

The body of these lights is much more substantial than I expected for this cost... I figured it would be a cheap plastic backing. The build construction of the lights themselves is very nice.

The lights are BRIGHT. I purchased a CFL soft box kit to add a brighter soft source for this project, and these were much much brighter. The remotes make fine-tuning the light setup much easier. I was hesitant to purchase them, but they made the shots come together quicker. My lighting tech was able to stand behind the camera & dial the brightness in on each light.

Each light also comes with a cigarette lighter adapter. I didn't expect this much flexibility for this cost of a kit.

I have 2 complaints to go with this system:
1 - the mount on the light is where the cheap plastic is. They held up perfectly fine for this shoot, but I don't expect them to last a super long time.
2 - the boom arm is a little too light weight. It holds the little LED pretty well, but we had issues collapsing it back down due to bending.

Overall, when considering the cost of the kit and what you get, I would definitely purchase it again.

Comments about Genaray SpectroLED-14 Three Light Kit (120VAC/12VDC):

I purchased this as an upgrade from an entry level three light tungsten kit, along with two additional SectroLED-9s for illuminating a green screen background. The build quality is excellent and well designed. The high frequency noise issue when the lights are partially dimmed that has been mentioned in other reviews is barely perceptible (and I still have good high frequency hearing) and totally not an issue for shooting. The remote control units are great, particularly for an overhead light that would otherwise have to be brought down for adjustment. Electric cords and remote control cords are generously long. Light stands are sturdy and are air cushioned (but the LEDs should be WAY less fragile anyway). The lights run delightfully cool! Part of my justification for spending the extra money on LED lighting was the added comfort of not putting subjects under hotter lighting, which makes it challenging to keep the studio space comfortable. These run delightfully cool! The only downside I can think of is limited transportability, as the kit does not include any sort of case for the lights, so a substantial investment in transport cases would be needed for those desiring to take these on location regularly. I intend for them to live primarily in a fixed studio location, so not an issue for my purposes. I am generally conservative with my ratings, but this kit earns five stars because there are no weak links in this kit, and on a cost adjusted basis, these are an exceptional value for LED technology in such a well constructed package.
