The 21mm f/1.8 Ultron M-Mount Lens from Voigtlander is a manual focus wide-angle prime lens with a maximum aperture of f/1.8 making it ideal for shallow depth of field photography and effective with fast shutter speeds in low light. Its optical design consists of 13 elements in 11 groups including an aspherical lens element to correct aberrations. Ten aperture blades help to create beautiful bokeh when shooting with a shallow focus and its smooth manual focus action offers precise focusing. An all-metal barrel provides longevity and a built-in lens hood deflects stray light from entering the lens and offers a degree of protection for the lens as well. A VM mount lens, it has a native compatibility with M-mount cameras but can work on most any camera with the proper adapter.

A wide maximum aperture of f/1.8 enables this lens to be effective in low-light situations and provide shallow depth of field focus.

Comments about Voigtlander 21mm f/1.8 Ultron M-Mount Lens:

Bought the CV 21/1.8 Ultron as smaller wide angle rangefinder lens addition to be used on my full frame Sony A7R camera. The lens is well built, very sharp throughout the f-stops in the corners, no vignetting. Many other wide angle rangefinder lenses give issues on the A7R sensor - this lens doesn't. The lens is fast and allows to capture great photos even in dim light conditions. Only con for me is the fixed lens hood - unfortunately this makes it impossible to use square graduated ND filters.

Comments about Voigtlander 21mm f/1.8 Ultron M-Mount Lens:

I jumped on this lens before the A7 even came out. The idea was to get a low light ultrawide for the upcoming A7. After some extensive browsing on-line, this lens seemed to be THE rangefinder ultrawide with the least corner smearing and color shift, except for the Leica WATE, then that one is a f4 lens and a very expensive one at that. Also, I gave up on the rare Olympus OM 21 f2 due to its nervous bokeh and CA caused by its dated design.Luckily my educated guess was correct. This lens is now my go to lens on the A7 and A7r bodies. The lens is built like a tank, with silky smooth focus and precise aperture clicks that would pleasantly surprise anyone coming from a DSLR.Optically it also excels. In the center, it is sharp right from f1.8, though with some visible CA and purple-fringing that need to be stopped down to f2.8 to get rid of. The mid sections are also quite fine, unlike some other rangefinder wide angles which start to get the smearing quite early on. The outer image ring is smeary, becoming usable at f4 on the A7 and f5.6 on the A7r, sharp at f8. The lens has no visible color-shift on the A7 unless shot at infinity into blue skies, where the corners would start to show a slight hue. On the A7r it always color-shifts, except in photos taken at the night sky, where the color-shifts would be hid by the darkness. Compared to my Nikon ais 28mm f2.8 which was a celebrated dslr wide angle, the Voigtlander has better resolution and less color CA in the corners. There's an interesting but not very discussed character of this lens, that's its beautiful sunstars, which start to pop out on strong light sources even at f2.8.The downside is that this lens is rather big and heavy for a rangefinder lens, but that's normal for a 21mm f1.8 made out of metal and glass.More importantly, the built-in non-removable lens hood might be a real pain for those who are used to slide-in filters as it is practically impossible unless you grind the metal lens hood off. I also wish the lens had weather-sealings to go with the A7 and A7r, but then no Leica M to E adapter is weather-sealed yet and the lens still performed flawlessly in icy rains and snow storms during my trip to the South Patagonian Ice Field. Conclusion, at the moment, this is one of the best lowlight ultrawide for the Sony A7 series cameras, maybe even for the Leica M.

paired with Sony A7R. it's built like a tank, very crisp in centre but loses a fair bit of sharpness near the edges when wide open.

Comments about Voigtlander 21mm f/1.8 Ultron M-Mount Lens:

I bought this for the Sony a7r, which is particularly tough with wide angle lenses. Great build, good focus ring and aperture ring feel. It is exceptional in the center even wide open, but it gets dramatically worse out towards the corners. Those corners don't clean up until f/8.

It probably does much better on film or on the Leica M. It is still one of the better wide options for the a7r. The Leica WATE is much better but at 4x the price.

Comments about Voigtlander 21mm f/1.8 Ultron M-Mount Lens:

Using this on a NEX with Leica M adapter. Good glass makes or breaks a shot no matter the camera body. This lens does not disappoint. Very solid build, smooth focus, solid aperture clicks. Excellent in bright or low light. The RAW file output with this setup is usable for print with no post adjustments!
