The black Lumix DMC-ZS30 Digital Camera from Panasonic is a versatile, high-quality compact camera with a 20x optical zoom lens, manual exposure control, Wi-Fi connectivity and touch-control LCD screen. Its 18.1MP MOS sensor and new Venus Engine image processor provide low-noise images, accurate colors and fast performance and its 20x optical zoom lens stretches from ultra wide-angle to super-telephoto lengths for a wide range of shooting applications. This Leica DC Vario-Elmar lens offers the 35mm equivalent focal length of a 24-480mm lens with a maximum aperture of f/3.3 at the wide-angle end. This aperture is wide enough to capture low light action and the camera's Hybrid Optical Image Stabilization will compensate for camera shake to provide clear photos and videos when shooting at the telephoto lengths that this lens offers. If you need to reach a bit further, a 40x Intelligent Digital Zoom feature is also available. Aspherical and Extra-low Dispersion lens elements and Nano Surface Coating minimize aberrations and flaring for sharply rendered images.
Full HD 1080p video recording with built-in stereo sound is supported by the ZS30 and a dedicated one-touch button will take you instantly from photo mode to video. You can also shoot still images while recording a video without cutting the video. Slow- and fast-motion video and multiple lower resolution recording is also possible and 5-Axis Correction minimizes blurring across the entire shooting range. A 3.0" 920k-dot Touch-control LCD screen is provided for composition and playback. You can control autofocus, zoom, shutter and playback with simple gestures on the touch-screen. It also features an auto level gauge to keep your images straight.
The DMC-ZS30 has built-in Wi-Fi and by downloading the Panasonic Image App to your iOS or Android smart phone or tablet, you can wirelessly send your shots to your device for instant sharing and storage. The App also allows you to use your device as a remote control for shooting and viewing photos and HD video. NFC (Near Field Communication) allows you to connect camera to phone with just a touch and sharing images with a friend's phone is just as easy. Direct upload to social networking sites, auto transfer and wireless TV playback are all possible with the Image App. The camera also has built-in GPS with geo-tagging, mapping and compass functions.
The ZS30 offers full resolution burst shooting of 10 frames per second and its Intelligent Auto mode allows the camera to set the optimal adjustments while you compose and shoot. If you want your settings to be even more specific, 18 individual photo Scene Modes, such as Panorama, Sunset or Night Portrait, offer predefined settings that correspond to the scene you are shooting. High Dynamic Range is included to capture balanced shots of scenes that contain both dark shadows and bright areas. Four photo aspect ratios in multiple resolutions are available (4:3, 3:2, 16:9 and square-shaped 1:1) and manual exposure control is supported so you can adjust aperture and shutter speed to create images exactly the way you envision.
For expressive imaging, Creative Control and Creative Retouch allow you to add 14 artistic effects before or after you shoot, for example Retro look, Toy Effect or One Point Color. Creative Panorama offers the same effects on panorama images and Creative Control is also supported in video mode.
The DMC-ZS30 is conveniently powered by both a conventional AC adapter and via the USB input, so you can use your computer to charge your camera. PHOTOfunSTUDIO 9.0 image management software is included with your purchase.

Comments about Lumix DMC-ZS30 Digital Camera (Black):
This is by far the best digital point and shoot camera on the market at this point. I have tried several before I settled on this one and Im glad I did. I mostly use this camera for filming and the footage looks beautiful. There are a lot of options you can do and use on this camera but the automatic settings alone work great. My favorite feature is that you can film 120 fps at 720HD for over 7 minutes at a time. This is an excellent feature for slow motion and the footage looks awesome. The battery is decent and the zoom goes from 24-480mm zoom which is a big help. If you are looking for a great small camera with a lot of options to take with you wherever you go, then this is the camera.

Comments about Lumix DMC-ZS30 Digital Camera (Silver):
I bought this camera to capture pictures for my website. What a great deal. I can pull an entire room into view or capture a full building with room to spare. It is so nice to be able to carry a quality camera from job to job. I wanted a point to shoot with high pix, strong zoom and ease of use and that's what was delivered to my front door!

Comments about Lumix DMC-ZS30 Digital Camera (Silver):
I own several cameras, including a couple of Canon DSLRs and a Sony mirrorless Nex5N.
But I've owned a Panasonic DMC-ZS7 for a few years and use it when I don't want/need to carry a camera bag for lenses, etc. It takes terrific photos in good light, though low light is a little iffy. Its best feature was video in low light - I've taken dozens of videos at concerts and have always been thrilled with the quality and clarity.
The ZS30 has a stronger zoom, higher resolution and a much nicer screen, though it still doesn't pivot for taking photos over the crowd.
The photos are rich, if a little warm when using default settings. The flash is strong and has a few different settings for taking shots of children and pets without all the red-eye.
Focus is quick and accurate, and the scene modes are interesting.
My only real concern is with the video. Even though it's capable of real HD, it doesn't perform as well as the ZS7 in low light. You can make changes to the settings to make it a bit better, but you basically have to put it in automatic mode to get the camera to adapt to changes in light/shadow.
Overall, I am enjoying the new camera and am looking forward to getting to know it a bit better.

Comments about Lumix DMC-ZS30 Digital Camera (Black):
I wanted a simple, all-purpose camera for work & play. By day, I use this for real estate exterior & interior shots and I bought it for the low-light sensitivity and for the built-in HDR when shooting into backlight.
I've only scratched the surface of the manual user settings. The panorama shots are easy to take and translate well to the internet & print media. For weekend family shots, this worked better than expected at soccer games & practices - the zoom is ridiculously stable & clear and the burst shots made for pretty good action sequences. I find the iPhone app essential - especially as a remote control. You can hold the camera way up on a pole and view & shoot from the iPhone - much safer than standing on things to get the best angle in some cases. I wish the camera body was a little bigger for better handling - but I do appreciate the compact design for travel & on-the-go photo shoots. So far, I'm giving it 4.5 stars. The access covers for the cords & SD card seem very fragile so I hope they don't break off easily. That said, I did buy the extended warranty from B&H so hopefully I'm covered! The touch screen is decent, but clumsy compared to modern iDevices. Overall, very pleased, looking forward to improving as a photographer and getting great shots with the Panasonic ZS30.

Comments about Lumix DMC-ZS30 Digital Camera (Black):
This is my fourth camera, and third Lumix from B&H. I keep upgrading for the new features such as GPS, WiFi and Image Stabilization. Plus the cameras are getting lighter with a more powerful zoom. Great images! And it doesn't hurt that the Lumix is being made in the former Leica factory. I doubt I will ever use all the great features available but I'm going to try! All the controls are right on the touch-screen. And being able to take a still photo while video taping is a good bonus. Get your hands on one of these. Price plus features, what a deal.

This camera is an upgrade from my ZS19 and am very happy with it. I use it mostly for nature shots, especially close ups and landscapes (I keep the 1.7 telephoto lens on my DMC FZ150 for the long shots.
I haven't tried all the neat features yet, but if they work as well as the basics...
