The orange Lumix DMC-TS5 Digital Camera from Panasonic is a Wi-Fi enable "tough" compact camera that can shoot both photos and Full HD video on land and underwater. A 16.1MP High Sensitivity MOS sensor provides high quality imaging and fast autofocus. A Leica DC Vario-Elmar lens offers focal lengths from wide-angle to telephoto at 28-128mm in 35mm format. Full HD 1080p is available at 60 or 30 frames per second with a dedicated one-touch button and built-in stereo microphone. Power O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilization) compensates for camera shake and offers clear images in low light or when shooting telephoto. Intelligent Auto (iA) Mode is available for simple point and shoot capability and Scene Mode provides predefined adjustments to shoot certain types of scenes (Sunset, Panorama, Night Scenery, etc.) with the ideal camera settings. The camera also features manual exposure control, time-lapse shooting and continuous burst shooting up to 10 frames per second at full resolution.

A 3.0" TFT LCD screen with 460k-dot resolution and anti-reflective coating provides composition and playback viewing. The TS5's compact and "grippable" design with raised buttons makes one hand shooting and adjustments easy. One touch video, Wi-Fi and playback buttons are ideal for the type of activity this camera is meant to document.

Built-in Wi-Fi enables you to send images to your smart phone or tablet with one touch. The TS5 also offers Near Field Communication (NFC) to connect with a compatible Wi-Fi device by simply tapping the two together. The Lumix Remote app must be downloaded to your smart phone or tablet to wirelessly connect with the TS5, but the app also allows your phone to be used as a remote control for your camera and offers cloud storage for your images, which can be important when shooting in locations where getting to your computer may be difficult. Built-in GPS functionality allows for geo-tagging of your images.

The tough features of the TS5 allow it to go pretty much anywhere your adventures take you. It is waterproof to a depth of 39' (12 m), shockproof from a drop height of 6.5' (2 m), freeze proof to a temperature of 14ºF (-10ºC) and pressure resistant to 220 lbs. It also offers anti-fog protection for its lens.

16.1MP Sensor and Venus Engine Image Processor
A new 16.1MP high sensitivity MOS Sensor offers high quality imaging even in low light conditions and the Venus Engine Image Processor provides fast performance in extreme conditions.
Leica DC Vario-Elmar Lens
A 4.6x optical zoom lens provides 35mm focal length equivalents of 28-128mm which ranges from wide-angle to telephoto. This incorporates most shooting situations and a 9.3x Intelligent Zoom will reach even further if needed. The maximum aperture at the wide-angle end is f/3.3. The lens is designed from 10 elements in 8 groups and includes 5 aspherical lenses and 1 extra-low dispersion lens for sharp images and reduced aberrations.
Waterproof and Tough Features
The TS5 is waterproof to a depth of 39' (12 m), shockproof from a drop height of 6.5' (2 m), freeze proof to a temperature of 14ºF (-10ºC) and pressure resistant to 220 lbs. It is also dustproof/sand proof and features anti-fog glass in its lens.
Full HD 1080 Video with Dedicated Button
Full HD 1080 video recording at 60 or 30 frames per second in the AVCHD format and a stereo microphone allow you to shoot high quality movies on land or underwater. A dedicated button switches you immediately into video mode and both Intelligent Auto (iA) and POWER Optical Image Stabilization (O.I.S) is available for video.
Wi-Fi Connectivity
With the Lumix Remote app installed on your smart phone or device, the TS5 provides one-touch connection to Wi-Fi with Near Field Communication (NFC). This allows for remote picture capture, quick upload, cloud storage and easy sharing.
3.0" LCD Display
Composition and playback are viewed with a 3.0" TFT Screen LCD display with 460,000 pixel resolution. It provides 100% field of view and offers Power Monitor Mode and AUTO Power Monitor Mode. An anti-reflective coating is applied to the screen for easier viewing in direct sunlight, this is particularly useful when using the camera while skiing or at the beach.
Optical Image Stabilization
POWER O.I.S, in both photo and video modes, compensates the effects of handshake even when using the high powered zoom. This will provide you with clearer images in low light and when shooting at telephoto lengths.
Aspect Ratios
The TS5 can shoot in four distinct aspect ratios, each with various resolution levels. Its native ratio is 4:3, but it also shoots in 3:2, 16:9 and 1:1.

I bought this camera for a diving vacation. While I had to leave it on the boat for deep dives, it worked great on shallow dives. I did a lot of research before purchasing. It seemed I had to choose between price, waterproof depth, and image quality. I didn't want to spend more than $ on a camera for diving, and I didn't want a camera that could go down 180 ft, but only get me pics with poor image quality. After discussing it over with a B&H employee who's also a diver, I decided to go with the Lumix TS5 over the Nikon AW110 . She said she loves Nikon, but that she just hadnt been happy with the image quality on Nikons for underwater photography. The Nikon does get you a few feet deeper, but a 5 foot difference doesnt really matter if the pictures are poor.I got some truly great shots below and above water. The battery just made it through 2 1-hour dives per charge. I'd highly recommend this camera for this price point. I have purchased 6 of these cameras or at least the prior generations for the last 3 years for work. Overall the cameras have held up ok. Slow response time. Used one of them underwater in the BVIs this summer 2 times and it died. One unit keeps showing a battery problem when they work fine in other cameras.
I can get by all of that as we take a lot of photos for our business.
What I can't get past is poor customer support. This is their most expensive point and shoot model and supposed to be water and dustproof. So the sensor on a 2 month old unit got dust on it, I sent it out under warranty. The service dept never contacted me for status, update or options. After finally wanting to know the status and sitting on hold for longer than I care, someone in customer support attempted to check and they couldn't determine the status but assure d me someone would call me back as it was not "escalated". Also after 2 calls I was asked to participate in a customer service survey, ha never received a call. So today I called again since I never heard from anybody, glad it was escalated, sat on hold for another half hour, then transferred to another half hour hold and told it is swapped out for a refurbished one and snarkliy told they don't guarantee the color and only swap out and don't replace with a new one. I should have read the warranty. When I asked to talk to a customer relations person as I wanted to talk to someone that might want to retain a customer the customer support person wasn't interested. I also let her know I was looking at getting a mirrorless Panasonic camera and she could care less, her job was to get me off the phone. Needless to say Panasonic has lost a customer and will never purchase one of their products again. Back to Nikon and Canon. It amazes me how poorly these representatives are at listening to customers and having any interest in retaining customers.

Comments about Lumix DMC-TS5 Digital Camera (Black):

i purchased this camera as a gift for my fiance because we needed something that could take a beating from her nieces and nephews around the pool, while at the same time taking a good picture. she used this for the first time on a cross country trip that she took 2 months back and her friend and her raved about how great the camera worked. i didn't get to use the camera until 2 weeks ago when we went on our honeymoon to hawaii. it takes great pictures in all different types of light and a good panoramic photo as well. my only complaint would be that it didn't take the best underwater pictures, but i feel that is more because i didn't have the camera set properly and not because the camera was unable to handle it. i would highly recommend this camera, but i would also advise you to play around with it for a little while in different situations and conditions before you find yourself staring at a 100 year old sea turtle and aren't sure how to take an underwater picture.

Comments about Lumix DMC-TS5 Digital Camera (Orange):

I have not tested this camera underwater yet but the above water performance appears to be good as respects various shooting situations. I thought the low light performance was a little deficient when compared too my Canon 100S but that camera costs about double. There is a nag screen every time the camera is powered up reminding you to close the battery compartment. This is annoying especially if you want to get a quick shot. Maybe there is some way to defeat this warning but I have not found it yet.
The main reason I picked this camera was the special filter for underwater photography. I hope it works when I submerge off Kona HI next month.

Love this camera. I got it to be able to take good pictures when out and about with the kids. I needed a camera that I didn't have to be super afraid of breaking. This was the ticket! I took it to Disney World last weekend and got lots of beautiful pictures without the added hassle of a large and bulky camera. Best of all, I had peace of mind. Not once did I worry about the camera breaking or getting wet. I would recommend getting an extra battery if you are going to be taking a lot of pictures all day.

Ours dies after only 2 years of light use. We sent it to Panasonic and we were told that they don't fix them they just offer a replacement for almost the cost of buying a new one.
We decide to replace it with the COOLPIX AW120 Waterproof Digital Camera .
            We are finished with Panasonic.

I'm a pro photographer but purchased this as my vacation camera. I didn't expect the most amazing pictures. I just wanted to to work.

Bought this for a Mexico vacation and it worked great everywhere we used it and in all conditions. Using it in the water was the most fun.

I am not a technical person, so I only read the under water usage instructions, and was still able to use the camera without any problems. Very good for a person like me, but I am sure there are many more features that I haven't even used.

This camera worked great for what we needed it for on vacation in Alaska, being water proof to a degree we didn't have to worry as much about the handling of the camera and for the purchase price you can't really ask for more quality. The WiFi connections feature is pretty awesome and easy to use as well, a nice touch indeed!

I've had this Camera for about a month now. It is not the best point and shoot camera for the money, but it IS the best point and shoot that can operate underwater. I've taken it tubing down the river in my pocket and boating on a lake also. It was pretty much in the water the whole time tubing and it worked flawlessly still taking excellent picture. I like than I can quickly and easily transfer photos wirelessly to my phone without being on a network. I can't wait to take it scuba diving.

Comments about Lumix DMC-TS5 Digital Camera (Blue):

Just purchased this in June 2014 & took on a cruise in July. We used it in a pool, caverns & ocean daily for a week. We had no trouble at all with any leaks. I make sure I wipe the seal on the door & camera side before closing after each battery charge. We used it for snorkeling, so the camera was taken no more than 10' deep - far less than the 43' rating.

I turned off GPS to save battery, but I think a spare is still necessary, so I would get one (or two). I did get spares & all worked fine. I recharged each night - I did go through at least one full battery each day.

I also followed the "rinse before opening" instructions to be sure all salt & sand was removed before opening the camera.

Pics were better underwater when using the actual "underwater" setting. Maybe that's obvious, but I experimented anyway. I use the "P" mode above the water & am very pleased with the results. Panorama pics are okay too, but you can see where some pics are "stitched" together.

We used the "sports" mode for taking sight-seeing pictures while moving in vans & busses. While not as sharp, these came out great as well.

This was the only camera I brought on the trip, so it was used for all types of pictures. I may get another for my wife. It is just plain easy to use, has good quality pics, and is waterproof.

Comments about Lumix DMC-TS5 Digital Camera (Black):

I bought this camera after first buying the Olympus TG-850 and being incredibly disappointed by the image quality. The image quality on the Panasonic is a lot better - still not DSLR-like, but I wasn't expecting that. Things that have impressed me about the Panasonic so far are the burst shooting mode, and the clarity of underwater pictures. I'm also very satisfied with the 1080/60p video mode. I'm not planning to use the camera in low light, and I haven't yet gotten a chance to try out the Wifi or the iPhone app, so I can't comment on those aspects of the camera. I wish the lens was a little wider, and even though image quality is acceptable it could be better, but overall I'm happy with my purchase.

This camera is a great point and shoot for someone who needs a durable waterproof camera. It's very easy to maneuver when underwater and I would say that's where it performs best. As expected based on other reviews, the battery life is not great. But the camera is light weight and sleek.

Comments about Lumix DMC-TS5 Digital Camera (Blue):

This is my 2nd Lumix waterproof camera. I bought the DMC-TS3 a few years ago for our trip to Hawaii. My dad is a photographer, loved my TS3, so I bought him this one for his 60th birthday. This one has a few upgrades from the older model. Built in wifi on this camera is a huge plus. This one is 16 megapixel camera, the TS3 is 12 megapixel. this one you can take deeper into the water. If you spend a lot of time in the water this is the perfect camera for you. you can take 1080P videos and they look sharp. Pictures come out super clear with this 16 megapixel camera. The GPS function is a great addition to your photos when you are on trips. The battery is great. People have complained that the GPS function drains the battery but that has never been a problem for me. I have taken this camera in the pool, ocean, snorkeling, skydiving and on zip lines and it's never failed me. You will get great pics and videos on whatever adventure you take with this camera. You will get the wind sound on some of the videos but it's expected in some of the conditions I have been in. Everyone always freaks out when they see me use it in the water and they always ask about it. I would recommend this camera to anyone looking for an affordable camera that can handle any type of condition, for any outing. Do yourself a favor and get a memory card with lots of memory and you are good to go.

The only thing this camera doesn't have is an option to record in 4K resolution. Give Panasonic some time and I'm sure a future model will have that capability. My Samsung S5 lets you record in 4K so the technology is coming.

I bought this camera right before heading off to a vacation in Mexico, and I am super happy I did so.This camera is very easy and intuitive to use. The underwater video was amazing for our snorkeling adventures. The normal video took crisp and fluid videos of the performances we watched.I highly recommend getting a floating wrist strap to keep from losing the camera.Overall, the camera is great and the salespeople were super helpful.I caught this camera on sale for $, but the orange one was still $ which I found odd.Awesome camera!

Comments about Lumix DMC-TS5 Digital Camera (Silver):

I bought this for my not-too-tech savy husband, who was able to adapt and produce great picutes from the first day out. While he has not yet submerged this camera (yet...) he's been able to take sharply focused images with the zoom from a moving kayak, and I know it's shockproof -- he's clipped it to his vest and banged around with no problems. The only small complaint is that the lens is not in center like his old camera, but he is getting used to the change readily enough.
