The 6TB 2big 2-Bay Dual Thunderbolt Hard Drive RAID from LaCie is a versatile hard drive array capable of daisy chaining up to six Thunderbolt-compatible devices in low power mode. With 10Gb/s max uplink and downlink speeds you can transfer your data quickly and efficiently. Everything within this enclosure is kept cool with aluminum casing with a heat sink design as well as a high performance fan.

Professional Storage
The LaCie 2big Thunderbolt Series features RAID security, hot-swappable disks, and daisy chain convenience. With a drive capacity of 6TB and rotational speed of 7200rpm's, these hard disks deliver the professional storage necessary for the most demanding tasks.
RAID for Speed or Security
Use Disk Utility on your Mac OS to configure the 2big Thunderbolt Series into a RAID array that suits your needs. It's possible to set it up as a mirrored RAID set (RAID 1), which provides data protection if one disk fails. As a result, you can simply replace a disk, with zero data loss and no work interruption.

You can also configure your drive as a striped RAID set (RAID 0) to maximize speed and capacity for large file storage and fast transfers. It also supports JBOD, which lets you assign each disk to a specific data storage task.

LaCie also offers the RAID Monitor software for this 2big Thunderbolt Series drive. It alerts you when a disk needs maintenance, identifies which drive has failed, and helps you to resolve the issue.
Daisy Chain to Multiply Options
With dual Thunderbolt ports on the 2big, you can daisy chain up to six Thunderbolt peripherals together. That means you don't need to buy a hub to connect multiple devices to a single Thunderbolt port on your computer. In addition, it increases the total amount of storage you can make available to your Mac.

Daisy chaining multiple 2bigs pushes overall performance to more than 670MB/s for your most data-intensive tasks. Thunderbolt technology is also mini-DisplayPort compatible. For example, you can connect a display and a 2big to your Mac via a single Thunderbolt cable.
Aluminum Reliability and Security
The 2big's dual cooling system ensures long-term reliability by preventing overheating. Its solid-aluminum heatsinked casing provides 60% more surface area than a smooth case to divert and dissipate heat more efficiently. In addition, its thermo-regulated fan turns on and off according to internal temperature. As a result, it cools the components while reducing electricity usage. For more energy savings, the front power button even lets you turn off the product without breaking a daisy chain connection.
Intuitive Design
The 2big Thunderbolt Series integrates into the professional workspace with quiet cooling fans making the 2big perfect for even the most noise-sensitive creative environments. This drive can stand alone vertically, or lie horizontally on your desk to stack with multiple products.

      Thunderbolt :)
Well-cooled case. I've had it running all day and it barely gets warm.

Slow when first turned on for the day, or after long idle periods.
      Some occasional drive noise.

Other reviewers mention the lack of a Thunderbolt cable, Lacie seem to have rectified this as mine shipped with a short (2 or 3') Thunderbolt cable.

I bought this item a little over a year ago and it has needed repair twice. The first time just 4 months after I got it. One of the drives failed and needed to go back for replacement to the LaCie factory in Oregon. Thinking it was reliable product, I did not have a spare drive so the whole purpose of the dual backup system was lost. I live in Mexico City so I contacted LaCie´s customer service by email. They were not very helpful nor willing to understand the urgency of the matter. They also did not want to send the replacement back to Mexico saying it was not part of their policy. I had to send the faulty disk to a friend in the US who in turn, sent it to them. Same procedure for getting it back. This process ended up costing me the equivalent of a new drive ($180) not to mention the fact that I also had to separately order a new drive from BH to have as a spare in case it failed again. So by now, I had already spent an extra $400 just to be running up again normally.
5 months after this unpleasant matter, the same drive failed again! LaCie felt no guilt whatsoever that this had happened for a second time in such short period of time and did not want to do anything different to reduce my anger and frustration. It cost me an additional $160 to send the faulty disk to Oregon and get it back to me from my friend.
The worst part and to my surprise, is when I found out that the replacement drive they had sent the first time was a refurbished/reconditioned one! I just could not believe it. The damaged drive was practically new and knowing I lived in Mexico and knowing how much it was costing me sending the drive to them, they did not feel the need to send a NEW one. If I live there I would have sue them or maybe I should have thrown everything to the garbage when it first malfunctioned, it would have been cheaper. I am amazed at how many bad business decisions this guys have made in this issue, taking into consideration we live in such an oriented customer service era. Operating like this, they will not be around very long....

Comments about LaCie 6TB 2big Thunderbolt Series 2-Bay RAID:

We use this RAID to back up video production files. We have found the LaCie drives to work well, and we feel that our assets are safe since it creates an automatic backup. We previously had purchased 4TB drives (we have 3 of these) and are very pleased to see the capacity has increased by 50%.

I love the space. I have a Nikon D800 and shoot in raw for editing purposes so you know I need the space. The The Thunderbolt speed makes this hard drive faster than the Hard drive inside of my iMac. I gave for stars because of the huge blue light in the front, which is really not necessary, but I suppose it's a trademark of Lacie! Good external, and I'm very pleased over all ;)

Comments about LaCie 6TB 2big Thunderbolt Series 2-Bay RAID:

Use as TM with iMac running Mavericks as Raid 1 (came formatted as Raid 0, so had to figure out how to format as Raid 1 - not as straightforward as promised) . Runs tirelessly, fairly quiet. Great big on-off button on front, lit up when on (but materials sent with it didn't explain that this is what it was). Problems with "improper ejection" when any sleep options in "energy saving" preferences in Mavericks are selected appear to be operating system bugs applying to many different external Hard Drives, bugs which Apple is working on.

I had this for about 3 weeks. It worked fine initially - data transfer even in mirrored RAID mode is very fast. But then I had to move it to another location and when I connected it again, it would not start up. I called LaCie customer service and after a 5 minute wait was connected to a technician. The technician suggested that I try reversing the Thuderbolt cable. That solved the problem. This seems very odd to me, but it worked. I give it 3 stars for having the problem in the first place, but an extra star for the LaCie service.

I bought the 6TB 2big Thunderbolt RAID to use with my iMac with 256 GB SSD. I use the RAID in a JBOD configuration - my apps and some documents are on the iMac SSD, one of the 2big drives is for pictures, music and movies, and the other 2big drive is for Time Machine. The 2big is super fast but isn't silent. It's not too loud for me though.
