The Eris E8 Two-Way Active 8" Studio Monitor from PreSonus delivers an accurate response with tight bass and a clear upper end. The Kevlar low frequency transducers, low-mass silk-dome tweeters and responsive Class AB amplification combine with acoustic-adjustment controls to create a versatile and adaptable listening system.

The E8 begins with a front-ported enclosure made of vinyl-laminated MDF. It features an 8" Kevlar low-frequency woofer driven by a 75W, Class AB amplifier. For the highs, Eris employs a 1.25" silk-dome tweeter powered by a 65W, Class AB amplifier. The E8 outputs a clean 105 dB peak SPL. Its frequency response is rated at 35Hz to 22kHz.

The Eris E8 provides a balanced XLR, a balanced ¼" TRS, and an unbalanced RCA line-level input. Once you're plugged in, set the Input Gain and you're ready to go!

Acoustic Tuning Controls
The Eris provides three EQ controls in its Acoustic Tuning section: High, Mid, and Low Cutoff. These controls enable you to fine-tune the monitors to your space. The Low control also is useful when using the E8 with a subwoofer.

The High control is a shelving filter that boosts or cuts all frequencies above 4.5kHz by as much as 6dB. The Mid control is a mid-frequency peak filter that boosts or cuts frequencies centered at 1kHz and extending about one octave above and below that frequency. The Low Cutoff control rolls off frequencies below either 80 or 100Hz at a slope of 12dB/octave. This control is especially useful if you also have a connected subwoofer.
Acoustic Space Control
A three-position Acoustic Space switch controls a second-order, low shelving filter that cuts frequencies below 800 Hz by either 2 or 4dB to compensate for the boundary bass boost that occurs in close proximity to walls or corners.
Thorough Protection Circuitry
RF shielding protects against radio frequencies that could be introduced to the signal and become audible. Eris monitors also provide overheat protection, current-output limiting and subsonic protection. "Soft startup" amplifiers prevent damaging pops from sounding through the speakers when you power them up.

Comments about PreSonus Eris E8 Two-Way Active 8" Studio Monitor (Each):

I have a small home studio, for which these are designed and serve admirably. Running through a Tascam US1800 for about a week now, here's my impression so far:
-They are louder than I anticipated (I have the gain control in the back set to 1/4).
-The bass response is indeed accurate and more powerful than I'd hoped for, while obviously not having the sheer moving power of a sub. If you're mixing in a smaller room and don't want to drown yourself with a subwoofer these will do just fine.
-I'm running through the 1/4" input, and do get a slight hiss in playback and recording. Most likely this is just due to the cables/preamps, but be aware.
-All sound seems to be very accurate and clear, for which these are certainly worth the price. Again, if you will be mixing in a smaller room and want to avoid using a sub, these are large enough to reproduce bass without getting floppy or weak.

I give 4 stars simply because I have not owned them long enough to know how well they stand the test of time. Good budget option.

Comments about PreSonus Eris E8 Two-Way Active 8" Studio Monitor (Each):

I purchased a pair of E8's in April 2013. By the end of May 2013, one of the speakers was inoperable. Since it was outside 30 days, I had to return for repair. Then in January 2014 the other speaker went out, just as the first one had. Dealing with Presonus tech support has not gone well.

There are lots of options for budget monitors. Because of reliability issues, I can't recommend the E8s.

Comments about PreSonus Eris E8 Two-Way Active 8" Studio Monitor (Each):

If you think it is now time to add a real monitor to your setup, this is a good place to start. The PreSonus Eris provides a lot of features in a reasonably priced Monitor. They offer both a 5" and an 8 inch version. If you have the space, go for the 8" version as it will provide more base response. Each monitor has its own built in amplifier which can be tuned specifically for your room via several dials and switches located on the back. The monitors feature a choice of balanced TRS, XML or unbalanced RCA input jacks. Of course to get the most out of these monitors you should use the balanced TRS or XML jacks.

I am quite pleased with these monitors, the quality of sound far exceeds the price point. These monitors are a bargain and a great place to start.
