The black SkyTracker Camera Mount with Polar Scope from iOptron is a motorized astrophotography tool used to capture crisp long-exposure photographs of the night sky. The included AccuAligning polar scope helps the operator align the camera mount parallel to the Earth's axis, which is essential for capturing sharp, trail-free images of celestial bodies. After using the polar scope to align the camera mount with correct azimuth and latitude positions, the SkyTracker is ready to follow the same path of stars moving across the sky. For quicker and easier alignment, an operator can use iOptron's Polar Scope iPhone/iPad app to pinpoint their polar reference star (Polaris north of the equator, Sigma Octantis south of the equator). Within minutes, an observer will be ready to capture astrophotographs of deep sky objects.

Comments about iOptron SkyTracker Camera Mount with Polar Scope (Black):

I am now shooting the night skies with my Nikon D800e, my Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 and even with a 2X teleconverter. It beats my Celestron and its clock drive. It is so easy to align with great precision allowing much longer exposures without a guide star.

Comments about iOptron SkyTracker Camera Mount with Polar Scope (Black):

Use with a tripod or head that permits azimuthal rotation. Works perfectly. After aligning, the polar scope slips easily out of the way so it doesn't interfere with my ball head. Runs all night. Fits easily in a backpack with other equipment.

Comments about iOptron SkyTracker Camera Mount with Polar Scope (Black):

I found the iOptron SkyTracker easy to setup and use the first time out. Locating and positioning Polaris in the Polar Scope was straightforward. I was able to take long bulb exposures of constellations (longest was 4 minutes) without any star trailing using a Canon 450D with the 18-55mm zoom lens. It works great and I encountered no problems.

Comments about iOptron SkyTracker Camera Mount with Polar Scope (Black):

The iOptron SkyTracker is a very nice package that is easy to setup and use. The accompanying polar alignment scope makes polar alignment a breeze. The mount will require a tripod with a 3/8 inch screw mounting post, however since the mount does not have a built-in azimuth adjustment you will need an adapter such as the FEISOL PB-70 Panning Base for making azimuth adjustments. You will also need a tripod ball head or something similar to mount your imaging camera. I chose to use the Manfrotto 460MG tripod head to mount the camera. Once you have the mount setup and polar aligned, you simply power it on with the 4 AA batteries or an common power supply with a readily available barrel plug, add your camera and point it to your target. I have successfuly captured 2 minute integration images with little or no trailing. I have not touched my normal EQ mount and telescopes since getting this new toy. It is a joy to own and operate.
