The 30mm f/1.4 DC HSM Lens for Nikon DSLR Cameras from Sigma is a prime lens designed for Nikon DX format cameras. Its 35mm focal length equivalent is 45mm which places it in the category of standard focal length lenses. With its particularly fast maximum aperture of f/1.4, the lens will perform very well in low light situations and provides shallow depth of field focus. With updated optical configurations (9 elements in 8 groups), as well as rounded aperture blades, the lens delivers sharp detail and nice background bokeh. Its minimum focus distance is 11.8" (30 cm).

The lens’ optimized light distribution helps to minimize field curvature preventing a loss of image quality at the edges of photographs and its double-sided aspherical lens element minimizes spherical distortion. A rear focusing system combined with a newly developed autofocus algorithm and Hyper Sonic Motor provide smooth and accurate autofocus. Fulltime manual focus is also supported. As part of Sigma's "Art" line of lenses it is compatible with Sigma's USB Dock, which enables firmware updates and focusing adjustments.

Fast maximum aperture of f/1.4 allows fast shutter speeds for clear low-light imaging and shallow depth of field focus.
A Hyper Sonic Autofocus Motor (HSM) offers fast, smooth and quiet autofocus.
Constructed with Thermally Stable Composite Material (TSC) which performs well in extreme temperatures, reducing the expansion and contraction of the internal lens barrel.
As part of Sigma's "Art" line of lenses it is compatible with Sigma's USB Dock, which enables firmware updates and focusing adjustments.

Comments about Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC HSM Lens for Nikon DSLR Cameras:

This is by far my favorite lens for a crop sensor (DX) body. My main camera is a D4, and I use Sigma's 50mm and new 35mm 1.4 lenses most with that body. I also own a D7100, which I bought this lens for times I did not want to lug around my beasty D4. As a professional photographer, I want and need the best glass for my work. I have owned and used Nikon's 35mm DX lens on a D300, and it was just okay and felt cheap, like a toy lens. This does not feel cheap, it has a solid build and beautiful design. I personally like the bigger lens hood that it comes with, it adds a "pro" look to the lens. The weight is just right, not heavy and not super light. But besides looks and construction, this lens is sharp and focuses fast. Those are biggies for me, and I am very pleased in those two areas. Color and contrast is excellent. Almost zero vignette or distortion on the edges, which is great. If your thing is silent focus, this has it. One of the things you'll love is how close you can focus to your subject versus using a 50mm on a full frame camera body. You can get very close to things, which is great for shooting details at events like weddings. You may notice some chromatic aberrations when shooting wide open, but even Canon and Nikon's best 50mm lenses have that, and its easily correctable in Lightroom. Its worth the price, you will not be disappointed!

Comments about Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC HSM Lens for Nikon DSLR Cameras:

Todavía no he probado el 100% del uso del lente, pero se siente súper solido, muy bien construido y bastante pesado (no negativamente), he leído que puede tener precisiones en el foco todavía no lo he notado, es mucho más luminoso que mi 50mm 1.8 (nikon), si el dinero es un gran obstáculo el 50mm 1.8 es muy bueno, si buscas ese extra en angulo y luz vale la pena (por lo menos para mi)

Comments about Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC HSM Lens for Nikon DSLR Cameras:

Build quality is beautiful. I love how sturdy this lens feels.
Image quality is great as well.
Sharpness wise, it's a little bit soft at 1.4 but it still looks great! After 1.6 it's quite good.
The focus motor is very quiet and does a great job focusing in low light.

All around, I'm very happy with this lens.

I'm far from a prefessional photographer but was looking for a fast lense for a trip to Disney World for nightime and ride photos. After 3 days of parks, I can say this was by far the best lens we took. It took nice crisp photos, nice bokeh, a perfect walking around lens.

Comments about Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC HSM Lens for Nikon DSLR Cameras:

I compared this with the Nikon 35mm 1.8G AF-S DX, and the Nikon 28mm 1.8G AF-S. In relation to those, this has a much nicer manual focus ring, more smooth and well dampened. The color is slightly warmer. It is a little 'brighter' than the 35mm, and the 28mm is noticeably brighter than the other two. The Bokeh on the 35 is the least desirable; this and the 28 look identical; neither comes near premium lenses like the Nikon 85 1.4. Overall I would rate them in terms of their price, with this one falling in the middle - but the actual difference in IQ and sharpness is very very slight between all three (at least the samples I tried). Those on a budget may prefer the Nikon 35mm, and those wanting the best should consider the Nikon 35 1.4 or a Zeiss. I did not try the popular Sigma 35 1.4 that works on full frame. I did find the lens a little heavy on my D7000 but some will like the weight.
