The black 60mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Micro Four Thirds Mount Cameras from Sigma is a prime lens compatible with Olympus and Panasonic Micro Four Thirds mount cameras. With a 120mm focal length equivalent in the 35mm format, this is a mid-range telephoto length lens with numerous applications including portraiture. A maximum aperture of f/2.8 provides shallow depth of field and makes this lens effective in low light. The minimum focus distance on this lens is 19.7" (50 cm) and its maximum magnification ratio is 1:7.2. A newly developed linear auto focus motor provides accurate and quiet focusing which is ideal when shooting video. With Special Low Dispersion (SLD) glass elements and glass molded aspherical elements, this lens minimizes chromatic aberrations for sharp, high resolution images. A seven-bladed diaphragm creates an attractive blur in the out of focus areas.

Comments about 60mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Micro Four Thirds Mount Cameras (Black):

Quite simply put, this lens is an incredible value. Its very sharp, even wide open with great contrast and color. I use this lens on an Olympus E-PL1 and autofocus is acceptably quick (though I realize it would be faster on a newer m43 camera). The build quality is very good (especially at this price) and the hood (which I leave permanently attached) and the lens case are a bonus. I find this lens great for portraits as well as close ups of flowers and plants, but the 60mm focal length lends itself to many other applications as well. About the only negative thing I can say about the lens is that the smooth barrel isn't the easiest to use for manual focusing, buts its certainly workable. It also shows fingerprints easily. All in all, the best lens I've ever purchased for the m43 system.

Comments about 60mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Micro Four Thirds Mount Cameras (Black):

I got this lens to use with my Panasonic Lumix GH3 and GX7cameras. Even at full retail (US$ 239), this lens is quite a value; on sale, even more so. I usually assess the optical quality of my lenses by viewing their images at 100% magnification. The Sigma does not disappoint; it's as good as anything else I own. Usage is straight-forward; the autofocus works well with my Panasonic cameras. The lens is actually smaller than I expected, another plus. I used to own a Sigma MFT 30mm lens, but sold it because a) 30 mm wasn't a good focal length for me - it was either too short or too long, and b) the maximum aperture of f2.8 was too small for my usage on a lens of this focal length. Neither of these is a problem for me with this lens: 60mm is just a bit shorter than the tradition 135mm full-frame focal length and a maximum aperture of f2.8 on a short telephoto lens is acceptable. This lens' only real competition is the Olympus 75mm/f2.8 even though the effective 30mm difference in focal lengths makes them difficult to compare. I believe this lens is a good value because it approaches the Olympus in image quality at 1/3 the price.

You do get the Sigma clunk with this lens - the focus mechanism disengages when the lens is powered down and some internal piece moves when the lens is moved. This does not bother me; I believe Sigma when they say this is not a problem.

Others have complained that the manual focus barrel is difficult to control because it is smooth instead of knurled; again, not a problem for me.

My one nit to pick is how tightly the lens attaches to the camera. Once attached, this lens is not going to move relative to the camera body (a good thing.) But the tightness coupled with the size of the focus barrel makes it smoewhat difficult to get a grip on to remove.

Comments about 60mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Micro Four Thirds Mount Cameras (Black):

          Use this on a E-M1 and GX7.

The lens is very sharp right from wide open.

When the camera is off it makes a clanking sound. Turn the camera on and the clank stops.

The barrel is smooth and slippery making manual focusing awkward.

Focus is relatively quick and accurate.

Finally a lens cap that doesn't slip out of your fingers or is restricted by the hood.

I don't know what Sigma was thinking when they designed this lens.

In spite of these flaws I will keep it because of the image quality.

Comments about 60mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Micro Four Thirds Mount Cameras (Black):

I purchased this lens to use on my Olympus EPL5. The lens handles well on the EPL5 and the black lens I purchased matches nicely with the silver EPL5. The lens barrel is smooth and shiny and at first I wasn't sure how it was going to look or feel but once I mounted it to the camera I felt it looked just fine and I can manual focus the smooth barrel with no problem. Sharpness! wow, I was blow away by how sharp the lens is. It's sharp in the center at f2.8 with good corners and by f5.6 it's amazingly sharp center and corner to corner. The lens rattles if you shake it when the camera is off but once the camera is powered on, you don't hear it anymore. I honestly think I prefer this lens to my very sharp Olympus 45 1.8. The Sigma 60mm f 2.8 is superb lens in it's own right at a very reasonable price compared to most other Micro Four Thirds lenses that I've purchased.

This one sharp lens. It rivals the best from Panasonic and Olympus. It has a rattle when not mounted or when camera is turned off. This is due to the linear AF mechanism. It is amazing to get a high performance, well made lens that includes a lens hood and a zippered case for this low price.

Comments about 60mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Micro Four Thirds Mount Cameras (Black):

I have to say I like Sigma lenses and this prime is no exception. I think that it's an ideal focal length for micro 4/3, ie 120mm effective. This is near-as-dammit the 135mm telephoto prime that was used in the 'old days' and you can see why. Reasonably fast at F2.8 and easy to focus manually and gets good images. One thing that I discovered with regard to max aperture is this. Just as a micro 4/3 lens has double the focal length indicated (so this 60mm lens effectively becomes 120mm) so also it has double the field of focus for a given aperture. So f2.8 on micro 4/3 has equivalent focal range as f5.6 full frame. This makes a difference when trying to get a face in focus and background out of focus for example and it's why the kit zoom lens is much less useful than this prime IMO. Drawbacks -- is there something loose inside the lens? Apparently the 'clanking' sound is normal but it's rather disconcerting and seems as though a lens element is flapping about. But so far it has not interfered with any photos. The other gripe is the packaging. The lens' protective packing for transit doubles as a one-size-fits-all bag which effectively renders it useless. Could you not spare a dollar for a simple lens bag Sigma?

I was wondering buying the Zuiko 60/2.8; not for the macro but because the focal length pleases me. Then I tried it along with the Sigma 60/2.8 at the BH counter in a E-M1. Both produced the same sharpining result. After purchasing it, I, calmly compared it with my (excellent) zuiko zoom 14-150. The results at 60mm obtained with the Sigma wide-open surpassed the zoom results. The price is very good. The hood seems too short. Highly recommended.

Have only begun shooting with it, on Lumix G6 and G5, but can attest to its brilliant clarity, contrast and color rendition. Very affordably priced. Get one if you can!

My only complaint is that Sigma supplies the same lens hood for all their DN lenses regardless of focal length.

Comments about 60mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Micro Four Thirds Mount Cameras (Black):

I usually don't write lens reviews but wanted to let other M43 photographers know how excellent this lens is, at any price. Sharpness is outstanding corner to corner, with minimal, easily corrected chromatic aberration, and good resistance to flare. If it had a red dot on it, it would sell for many times its very low $[$]. This is an excellent lens and ships with a good case and lens hood for that low price. It's probably as sharp as my Olympus 75mm f/1.8 and has noticeably better flare resistance than my Panasonic-Leica 25mm Summilux. Although it doesn't seem built to the standards of a Pentax Limited or top-end Olympus lens, I see no negatives of any consequence.I do not write fan-boy reviews. This is simply an excellent lens at an excellent price for M43 cameras, particularly those with in-body image stabilization hardware.

Great lens for the price. No motion stabilization, so best combined with one of the olympus micro four thirds.

Nonetheless, I'm more than happy with the performance even in my GF1.

The lens has excellent resolution and contrast starting at F2.8 and say 5%less at f16. The chromatic aberration is very well controled. The focus is very silent and reasonably fast. The design is very pleasant, very nice finish and overall design. For the price consider it a treasure. Dont miss it!

Comments about 60mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Micro Four Thirds Mount Cameras (Black):

This is a good lens. Build quality is very good. The lens is very solid feeling except that the lens element floats around with the power off.

The image quality is excellent even wide open. It focuses fast in low light. Bokeh is smooth and pleasing and the lens focuses reasonably close. I haven't noticed any significant CA or flare issues. Manual focus works well also but it has a little strange feel focusing with the slick lens barrel.

I haven't shot any video so I don't know how quiet it is for that application.

The lens comes with a hood, caps and a good quality lens case. It I had to be picky the lens case is a little big for this lens and I would have preferred something like the Panasonic lens pouches.

The lens is pretty big in both diameter and length. It isn't as big as the Panasonic 45-200mm but it is close. I guess I'm not a fan of the slick lens barrel. It feels a little strange when you use manual focus and I am a little concerned about the lens slipping out of my hand during a fast lens change.

For the price, you really can't beat this lens. I my mind, this is the ideal price point for Micro 4/3 lenses and the image quality is excellent.

Comments about 60mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Micro Four Thirds Mount Cameras (Black):

I just got this lens and use it on a Panasonic G2 body. The lens is a great size, mounts firmly and nicely to the body, and has fast and silent focusing. The lens includes a case, hood, rear cap and convenient pinch front cap that is easy to install and remove even with the hood in place. The hood mounts firmly with a click both in shooting and travel (reverse) positions.

The lens has a slight rattle that is normal. Some have mentioned they wish this lens was faster (like f/2.0), but I find this lens has a nice shallow DOF and smooth bokeh wide open.

The lens features a wide, smooth manual focus ring that works great and won't age and become ugly over time.

The only thing I wish is that Sigma had provided a case that was smaller and custom-sized to fit the lens, instead of a case that is larger than needed.
