The black 30mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Sony E-mount Cameras from Sigma is standard length prime lens for Sony E-mount cameras. Its focal length is equivalent to a 45mm lens in the 35mm format and its minimum focus distance is 11.8" (30 cm). Its f/2.8 maximum aperture is ideal for shallow depth of field imaging and allows it to maintain sharpness in low light situations. An inner focusing system means the lens does not extend when focusing and its newly developed linear autofocus motor is accurate and quiet. Sigma's Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting and provides sharp and high contrast images even at the maximum aperture, and with two glass molded aspherical elements including a double-sided aspherical element, aberrations are kept to a minimum. The result is accurate color definition and sharp imaging across the frame. A metal exterior provides durability and handsome design.

Standard length 30mm prime lens for Sony E-mount cameras with a 45mm focal length equivalent
Maximum aperture of f/2.8 is effective in low light situations and able to create lovely shallow depth of field images.
Inner focusing system and linear autofocus motor for efficient, smooth, quiet and accurate focus.
Two glass molded aspherical elements, including a double-sided aspherical element and Super Multi-Layer Coating minimizes aberrations and reduces flare and ghosting for sharp, high contrast images.
A brass bayonet mount has both high accuracy and durability. A special treatment to reinforce its strength is applied to the surface giving it greater strength and making it highly resistant to long-term use.
Part of Sigma's new "Art" class of fast aperture, sharp prime lenses

I used to think of Sigma as just another third party lens maker and not necessarily one of the better ones. Boy, have things changed. This lens is SUPERB. Yes, it's light and it does have that loose lens element when off the camera. However, it performs as well as a lens priced three times more. This little thing is a jewel. The images it produces are colorful, contrasty, sharp, with wonderful colors that pop. Very Zeiss-like in the sharpness and contrast department with colors on the warmer side. And, unlike all of those lenses Sony has made in China or Thailand, this is made in Japan by a small family company. I put a Hoya multi-coated digital pro UV filter on it and couldn't be happier with the performance. I thought I'd buy this lens until I could afford either the Sony 35mm f/1.8 or the Sony branded Zeiss f/4 16-70 zoom. Now I can't imagine parting with it. Sigma, you've come a long way. Well done. And at this price, it absolutely cannot be beat. If you've got an A6000, buy this lens for it. You'll love the results. My highest recommendation. And I'm usually a lens snob. Sigma...who knew??? I'm a convert. Need you to make a normal zoom lens with OIS now, please.

Comments about 30mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Sony E-mount Cameras (Black):

I bought this lens for my Sony A6000 after research. I use it as a walk around lens for street and candid shots. It works well and is a good size. The image quality is good and focus speed is also good.
One thing I wasn't aware of is that it doesn't utilize all the 179 focus points like the Sony 16-55mm kit lens. Although, I'm not sure that is all bad. I'm still getting used to the camera, and I notice when using the kit lens and using wide are focus, the lens focal pints will hunt all over the field of view, which can be annoying.

Comments about 30mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Sony E-mount Cameras (Black):

I use this with Sony A6000 excellent combination. This lens is so good that forget about that sound inside. For $ bucks that quality, WOW! The only downside (and this relates to A6000, not the lens) is that camera does not allow the use all phase-detect AF points all across the sensor, only in the center. I don't know if it's possible to update the lens' firmware to solve this issue or to wait Sony updates (if they decide at all)

Comments about 30mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Sony E-mount Cameras (Silver):

With this being a nasty winter and all, I've not had as much time to try my new silver 30 out outside as a walkabout lens, but the shots I have been able to take are great. Good sharpness and colors. Great value, as I'm on a budget and couldn't afford the Sony 32/f-1.8. The OSS isn't a deal breaker for me as my kids are grown an I don't need a super fast lens for capturing the moment. In the future I will be using this for some product photos - not macro or portrait, but of objects in the 2-3' wide range, and I think that the angle, aperture and decent book eh will be great. I also have an overseas trip coming up, and I am happy enough with the Sigma that I plan to leave behind the kit zoom in favor of this lens, the Sony 20mm/f2.8 (I need to save a few bucks up ) and the standard Sony long zoom (which I was able to separate out of a two-lens big box store kit for [$] instead of [$]). I think working at 30 and 45 will be a good exercise -- think more as a creator rather than a snap shooter All in all a really nice prime if you can't afford the high rated Sony 32/1.8. I should also add that the silver lens and hood look pretty great on my Black-bodied NEX. Appreciate the quality lens case too. Just with that Sigmas 19 was as small as the Sony pancake 20 -- they (Sigma) really are making some nice lenses

Comments about 30mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Sony E-mount Cameras (Black):

I have been using this lens for a couple of years. Using it on the Sony N-ex7,a6000 and recently the a7 (in crop mode). I have used this lens for all around shooting. I have used it on fashion and portrait shoots. And have been thrilled with the results from this lens. I also have the Zeiss 55mm lens. This sigma 30mm is a good alternative to the expensive lens. Sometimes my own thoughts are that the Sigma is slightly better. Now let me explain my own reason. With my N-ex7 the Zeiss does show blue fringing. The Sigma does not show the fringing. This could be a camera setup issue (increased sharpening, saturation).
Now However when mounted on the a7 I haven't noticed the fringing issue. So for the price difference you can't beat the Sigma.
The Down side well just to be picky. When using a UV filter. You can count on increased Lens Flair in bright light. Another reviewer said do not use a UV filter. I believe they were referring to the lens flair issue. Also as others have pointed out the lens can rattle slightly when shaken.
Neither of these really matter this lens just Rocks.

I bought this lens as an experiment following other on- line reviews. I was concerned at the low cost and uncertain how good it was likely to be. With a round of test photos indoor and outdoor, it showed it was far superior to the kit lens. A great addition and I look forwards to trying the 19 and 60 mm lenses too.

Comments about 30mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Sony E-mount Cameras (Black):

Unless I buy used lenses for my film SLRs, it's hard to find a good cheap lens for a camera these days. The Sigma 30 mm f/2.8 DN for the Sony E-mount system definitely fits the bill. With silent electromagnetic focusing and excellent image quality at any aperture, I've already fallen in love with this cheap, fast lens. With a higher ISO (my Sony Alpha 3000 looks good up to ISO 6400), this lens is good for indoor work (and wouldn't you know I got it just in time for family shots at Christmas), and at a lower ISO it's an excellent lens for daytime, dawn, and dusk work. Autofocus is only a tiny bit slower than the Sony lenses I already have, but the Sigma lens behaves every bit as well as the Sony in every other key respect. I get great colours and screaming sharpness with this lens. What I really like about this lens is that it's an internal focus lens with no motor. Instead of a motor, this lens uses electromagnets for focusing, and I find that it gives excellent autofocus precision. Now this does mean that lens elements jangle around a bit in the lens barrel while the camera is turned off, but that doesn't worry me. Much. The 30 mm focal length acts like a 45 mm lens on a film or full-frame digital camera, making it very close to my beloved 50 mm focal length -- like Cartier-Bresson, it's my favourite focal length for general photography. The lens is rock-steady on the mount -- unlike cheap Canon lenses with their plastic mounts, Sigma uses a real machined metal mount just like Sony lenses, and I think it's machined even better than the Sony lenses. The focusing ring has no physical connection to the lens elements, but it's well damped and even though it's smooth, it's easy to turn when using DMF or full-blown MF.The worst part of the lens is the fiddly 46 mm filter thread, which is the smallest filter thread I currently use. A cheap step-up ring fixed that so I can use my collection of 49 and 52 mm filters, which is nice so that I can do in-camera B&W with real contrast filters. I'd recommend adding a good UV filter (I like Hoya filters, personally) and step-up rings in the relevant sizes for your filter collection. If you have a Sony APS-C E-mount camera, you owe it to yourself to buy this lens. It's a fine piece of optics and excellent at the price.

Comments about 30mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Sony E-mount Cameras (Black):

This is an outstanding optic. It delivers great sharpness and contrast, and it is a steal of a deal. The only drawback is that the Sony a6000 does not use the entire sensor for AF when this lens is mounted, but it does cover the area of "the thirds". I think that the incredible price makes up for that small inconvenience.

Having used nothing but zoom lenses for a very long time, I now have added two primes: the Sony 50mm f/1.8 and this Sigma 30mm f/2.8 for my Sony NEX-7. I believe these two primes are, for the money, the two best lenses available for Sony NEX cameras. This Sigma can be compared to the Sony 35mm f/1.8, which costs more than double what the Sigma costs and is a little larger/heavier but also is a little faster and has image stabalization. I don't think image stabalization is all that important for a fast lightweight 30mm lens, nor do I regard f/1.8 as all that more valuable than f/2.8 for these focal lengths. Others may value things differently. But in any case, the IQ from this Sigma lens is way higher than my expensive zooms when set to the same focal length. This Sigma has superb image quality, it is both lightweight and small, and very inexpensive. Highly recommended!

Comments about 30mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Sony E-mount Cameras (Black):

I use it with Sony a6000. This lens is much sharper and faster than the standard 16-50mm that comes with the 6000 as a kit. It certainly comes closer to exploiting the real possibilities of the a6000 than the kit lens.
It may not be the best lens available, but considering the price, it is a very good deal.
It makes a disconcerting rattling noise if you shake it (gently) or when you turn the camera on, but the auto-focus works without fail.
I would recommend this lens to anyone who has the a6000 body.

Despite it's clunking sound when the camera is not on this lens produces very crisp images and extremely nice colors.

In combination with a Sony a600 this is a must have lens for beginners as for pro photographers.

Purchased this Sigma with my Sony A6000 and was impressed with it's look and performance. It's a bit on the slow side, but looks and feels perfect on the A6K. The results are very good too. I don't think you can beat the performance /cost ratio. My only beef is that it doesn't allow you to use all the auto focus tracking on the A6K.
